Nancy Pelosi wants some answers.

The house speaker is calling for an investigation into groups protesting the building of the Ground Zero mosque.

"There is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some," she told San Francisco's KCBS radio on Tuesday.

Pelosi added that she joins "those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded."

Many Republicans have said they are against the building of the mosque, and have demanded Democratic candidates and incumbents to publicly choose a side.

The GOP said it will keep hammering the issue in a drive to take back Congress.

"It's important to voters right now," Tory Mazzola, spokesman for the National Congressional Republican Committee, said.

Pelosi is one of few House Democrats to make a statement on the mosque. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) broke from the president on Monday and said the mosque should be built "someplace else." The move occurred shortly after his Republican opponent Sharron Angle asked where he stood.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has previously said an investigation into how the $100 million project is funded would be "un-American."

Pelosi said the matter is a "zoning issue" in New York City and would like the matter to be determined by city residents. She said the issue might be "ginned up" in order to help Republican candidates.

"In New York, I'm sure the New Yorkers would like to make their own urban development decision themselves," Pelosi said.

Yup .. that's the guy behind the World Trade Center Mosque! That's the guy your taxpayer dollars are being spent to fly around the world on some sort of strange diplomatic mission. A Muslim Imam who wants to gather Muslims in the rubble of the World Trade Center to pray for the spread of Islam. How very wonderful.

Now remember .. a part of that rubble was the very building that is going to house this Mosque in New York City. The landing gear from the aircraft Muhammad Atta flew into Tower One crashed through the roof of the building in question. Who knows? Maybe they've saved some rubble from that very building to enhance their prayer for the spread of Islam experience.

Ailing 9/11 responders slammed President Obama on Tuesday for sounding off on the Ground Zero mosque while keeping silent on a $7.2 billion health care bill.

"Why have you failed us? We thought you would be our champion" in pushing the legislation, John Feal wrote to Obama.

One of the thousands who worked at The Pile after the World Trade Center attacks, Feal heads the Fealgood Foundation supporting the responders.

The plight of the Ground Zero heroes, still suffering and dying from illnesses brought on by the toxic cloud over the twin towers' ruins, has taken a backseat to the political posturing over the mosque, Feal said.

The mosque's location "is not an issue for us," he told Obama.

"It is disturbing that you have the time and energy to speak in favor of the mosque, but not on the health crisis caused by the attacks," said Feal, who lost part of a foot when a steel beam fell on him during cleanup work.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens), who has worked closely with the responders on the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, seconded their complaints about Obama.

"While I welcome President Obama's comments on religious freedom, I can understand why John Feal and his fellow 9/11 responders would want to hear that the President supports their cause, too," Maloney said.

Incorrect in all statements. The Muslims have had a mosque near Ground Zero for 30+ years, they are REPLACING the structure with a new community center which happens to have a room for prayer. No "mosque", no minarets, no outside sign that anyone prays there. There, as well, there is no "new" mosque; they want to build a community center with one room devoted to prayer, exactly like the room in the Pentagon where they can pray.

You claim “straw man” arguments when you’ve made many yourself; and the fact that people have the right to build on their own land, AND to pray within that building, is in no way a straw-man argument.
