Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I won't stop posting about what's happening on the front of women's reproductive rights, despite how it might irritate one person here, because I (and others) consider it a terribly important issue which is not going to go away.

There have been two new developments as of today:

Arizona: Women can no longer obtain abortion services except at two locations in the Phoenix area and one location in the Tucson area. Planned Parenthood had to cut all their other services in the entire state after the appeals court lifted an injunction on the 2009 law that imposed new mandates on abortion services and waiting periods.

North Carolina: Judge James Beaty, Jr., granted a request by Planned Parenthood affiliates to halt a provision in the state budget stopping funding until a lawsuit about the move has been decided. (Don't hold your breath for the lawsuit to be successful.)

Remember how Republicans won dramatic victories last November by promising to mitigate high unemployment yet after taking over the House and expanding their voices in the Senate, Republicans failed to come up with a single jobs-focused bill, instead prioritizing numerous social and cultural issues that are unrelated to job creation? Ther was H.R. 3, "The No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act". Though the GOP stripped out some of its most controversial provisions -- such as denying exemptions to a woman even in cases of rape, incest and when her life is in danger -- the measure raised costs for businesses by eliminating tax deductions on employee health insurance plans that cover abortion. The House then approved a measure to cut off all $317 million in Title X funding for Planned Parenthood and all other health care providers that offer abortions. Republicans effectively voted to strip funding for mostly low-income women for medical services like cancer screenings, breast exams and HIV tests too as a result.

Meanwhile, on the state level, numerous laws have been passed by the 2010 mideterm-elected GOP governors and legislatures, not to increase jobs, but to prohibit abortion.

2011 will go down in history as the year we had the biggest rollback of abortion rights in the history of America since Roe v. Wade. And yes, I will continue posting about it and bringing you updates for as long as this campaign against women's rights continues, which is pretty much guaranteed as long as Republicans and Tea Partiers have control of ANYTHING. We'll see where the Supremes stand on it, but I'm not holding my breath on THAT, either.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

It seems you are justified in your indignation. I can't imagine anyone telling you not to speak your mind on this issue.

You hadn't come back at that time, Anthony; I was castigated for continually bring up the issue because it was boring--or something--and had already been dealt with. I feel differently, I believe it is a "vibrantly" evolving issue, if you will, and one to which we should never stop paying attention.

Thank you for your kind words.

Well, you know you can count on my verbal chainsaw on the side of womens rights, youth rights, hell... anyones rights, you get right down to it.

And on this note, just as a snippy aside to any female who so desperately voted against their own interest by supporting any of these berks, a quote from Spider Jerusalem, which I feel is entirely appropriate.

Silence, vermin! I am in command here! Who did you vote for, vermin woman? Did you vote? Can you read? Have you got thumbs? SHOW ME YOUR FUCKING THUMBS!

Seriously, Transmetropolitan is just friggin awesome.

They also won, at both the State and National levels, by promising Social Conservatives that they'd 'defend' marriage and fight abortion. Getting that emotional/religious inspired stuff passed first probably increases support from their base more than jobs bills. I'm not very sanguine that either party is gonna come up with a workable job-creation bill any time soon.
