Professor Says Vanderbilt Suppressing Christian Student Groups Amid Shutdown Threats

Is Vanderbilt University flirting with the suppression of religion? Yes, according to Carol Swain, a professor at Vanderbilt’s Law School.

Specifically, Swain is referring to four Christian student groups being placed on "provisional status" after a university review found them to be in non-compliance with the school’s nondiscrimination policy.

Vanderbilt says the student organizations cannot require that leaders share the group’s beliefs, goals and values. Carried to its full extent, it means an atheist could lead a Christian group, a man a woman’s group, a Jew a Muslim group

I think if I was to be in a religion based group at Vanderbuilt it would probably be easier to "officially" disband the group and then meet off campus, rather than deal with policy these days. I don't know what ramification that would have as far as perks...

I'm all for separation of church and state and equal opportunities, but this just seems silly.
Sounds a little like the university is trying to intentionally cause problems within the Christian groups. I wonder if this is retaliation for something they were doing, or if someone got miffed that they weren't allowed to come in and pick apart a group??

Live and let live, ya dumb smart people

VU is a private institution, so there SHOULD be no issue w/ compliance here. It's simply how the powers that be there want to run things.

Silly.

If I'm paying boat loads of $ for my kid to go to a private university, and that $ goes to help pay for the facilities which the students use, why is it so much to ask that , if there's a student run organization, can't they run it like they see fit, and use the facilities for which their student fees help pay for in the first place ? Why should a group be forced off campus ? It defies logic. It's PC mentality , gone mental. ( or is that redundant ? )

Political correctness can get way out of hand. If I go to a women's group I'd like a woman to run it thank you. I'm sure the Muslim Students Asoc. would want a Muslim leading it etc. This article doesn't surprise me though because people really are this obnoxious these days, I can't expect much common sense from mortals of late.

Lets rise above this stupidity in life and say no more ... stupidness.

But if that's how TPTB at the university want to run things, and it's a private university, who are you to complain?

I'm no one to complain, but those who GO there sure seem to be complaining. Maybe they'll listen to the folks who help pay their salaries, but I'm , well... skeptical.
