I can't think of any good ones, but Roger Cohen can think of a few bad ones:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/17/opinion/cohen-dont-do-it-bibi.html?_
r=1

"Here’s the bottom line: an Israeli attack unites Iran in fury, locks in the Islamic Republic for a generation, cements the Syrian regime, radicalizes the Arab world at a moment of delicate transition, ignites Hezbollah on the Lebanese border, boosts Hamas, endangers U.S. troops in the region, sparks terrorism, propels oil skyward, triggers a possible regional war, offers a lifeline to Iran just as Europe is about to stop buying its oil, adds a Persian to the Arab vendetta against Israel, and may at best set back Iran’s nuclear ambitions a couple of years."

In the face of those bleak observations how would anyone argue the pro side?

Why Israel may bomb Iran before Nov elections:

"Netanyahu is tempted to bomb Iran in the next several months to set back its opaque nuclear program and — despite a call from Obama last Thursday and messages from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta — has declined to reassure the United States that he will not. Several factors, Iranian and American, incline Netanyahu to move soon.

The first is the Israeli judgment that Iran is close to “irreversibility” in its pursuit of the various elements — from uranium enrichment to trigger mechanisms — needed for a nuclear warhead. The start of enrichment at the Fordow underground facility near Qum intensified these concerns, as has Iran’s bellicose tone in response to threatened oil sanctions.

Then there is the American political calculus. An Israeli strike a few months before the U.S. election in November would stymie Obama. He would be in no position to express anger given the clout of the pro-Israel lobby, the important Jewish vote in Florida and the fulsome support any Israeli bombing would get from the Republican contender — probably Mitt Romney.

By contrast, a re-elected Obama would, as a second-term president, have room to mark his displeasure if Israel was to go it alone. Because awareness is growing that Obama could indeed win, these considerations carry weight in Jerusalem.

Netanyahu has always portrayed himself as the man standing between Iran and a bomb. A hawk, he has a taste for the dramatic. Israel, in such issues, has already gone it alone once, when it bombed a Syrian nuclear facility in 2007. At this stage, the U.S. and Israeli triggers appear distinct — with Panetta saying “our red line to Iran is, do not develop a nuclear weapon” whereas the Israelis see irreversible nuclear capability as unacceptable even if a weapon is not being made. In that discrepancy lurks danger."

Obama term 2 = a given. So does that mean bombing Iran before Nov is a given? If Israel bombs are we given to aid them? Or stand back and help them only quietly?

Looks like Iran is already getting set to go more hard-line anyway.

The parliament is demanding that Pres. Ahmadinejad answer questions about why he hasn't been following the dictates of Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, including re-hiring a government minister Ahmadinejad fired, and not enforcing the islamic dress code.

We should just blast the place right now & get it over with. We're gonna do it anyway.
Then we can have our next conflict, further depleating our economy, and finish what 9-11 started- our economic holocaust.
It MUST be what everyone wants- it's what we've been working SO HARD to achieve. And it's right there, we can almost touch it. Just a little more...

I've been doing some figuring... I think we've been wasteful and short sighted... we could actually spend more money and increase our kill ratio if we just bomb ourselves.

Please not. There's some really nice stuff in D.C. Damaging the Smithsonian or the National Gallery of Art would be a crime against humanity. Not to mention Ben's Chili Bowl.

Can anyone see this particular chess game unfolding?
First, we 'let' Saddam move on Kuwait, then put him in check. Then we yell that he's a big threat to us, so we take him out. That lets Iran move up on the board, so we get to take out a big piece there too...
What's the endgame though?
IS there an endgame?

My dad thinks that Obama will bomb Iran before the election, because no one wants to switch presidents when there's a new war on, people will think we'd better stick with what we have. I hope he's not right.

They will CERTAINLY try to trick him into doing so, the question is: will it work?

Point.

In that case how bout all them Bio-Chem agents we're pretending real hard not to have out there in Detrick and Aberdeen....

S'funny, I really do feel very strongly about not damaging such things, Libraries especially, and I was re-watching a series recently where a crime lord insists that his men do not engage where such things could be damaged - only to have them decry the fact they're in Italy, and where ISN'T there a museum or art gallery!
