Had you properly used the correct language in the headline, by adding ' ILLEGAL voters' , this would be a valid topic.

But you didn't, so it isn't.

Carry on.

Were you properly able to read, you'd realize that not a single one of those right-wingers said a single thing about "illegal" voters - they specifically targeted the poor and women, regardless of their legal status.

And it's really ironic that you of all people are going to start giving out advice on "proper" thread titles. ;)

mediamatters has a long history of twisting and distorting the facts. It's a george soros funded organization, set up for purely partisan reasons. Talk to Neal Boortz about how MM lies and distorts.

Huh. Quoting somebody word for word is now "distorting" their statements.

Funny that you'd use Boortz as a bastion of credibility, though. This is the guy that even O'Reilly refers to as "a vicious son of a bitch"; this is the guy who refers to Katrina victims as "debris".

No wonder you're in love with him!

Know WHY O'Reilly called Boortz that? Because Boortz called Bill out for making a tasteless , racist 'joke'.

In April 2003, Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly hosted a fundraiser for Best Friends, a charity benefiting inner-city schoolchildren. As reported in the Washington Post (4/15/03), O'Reilly was trying to fill the time before a singing group connected with the charity, called the Best Men, was set to perform, and quipped: "Does anyone know where the Best Men are? I hope they're not in the parking lot stealing our hubcaps."

But go right ahead and defend O'Reilly, all day long.

But back to the point, MM was founded w/ the mission of spinning news and facts for the sole purpose of attacking the Right and propagandizing for the Left. Regardless of what Boortz, or anyone says, the idiots at MM will twist it.

I get a giggle...dissing MediaMatters because it's the source, while in no way proving that ANY of those quotes aren't true. "There. I've refuted it good and proper, I have, I have..." Not even a very good tactic. Now, if someone wants to prove the QUOTES are untrue...but then they can't, can they? Pretty sad...

Those quotes blew my mind. We know of course that's what some of them are THINKING, but I didn't think they were dumb enough to actually SAY it...

What the hell...the Goldberg quote:
Quote:

GOLDBERG: Personally, I think the voting age should be much, higher, not lower. I think it was a mistake to lower it to 18, to be brutally honest….t is a simple fact of science that nothing correlates more with ignorance and stupidity than youth. We’re all born idiots, and we only get over that condition as we get less young. And yet there’s this thing in this culture where, ‘Oh, young people are for it so it must be special.’ No, the reason young people are for it because they don’t know better. That’s why we call them young people. [...]

The fact that young people think socialism is better than capitalism. That’s proof of what social scientists call their stupidity and their ignorance. And that’s something that conservatives have to beat out of them. Either literally or figuratively as far as I’m concerned.

The Peterson quote (him saying it himself):

Vadum, in his own words about the article quoted:

Wanna prove THEIR OWN WORDS wrong? Be my guest...

I think there is a very valid claim that welfare recipients shouldn't be allowed to vote.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy." -
Attributed to ALEXANDER FRASER TYTLER, LORD WOODHOUSELEE. Unverified.

And Niki, why don't you and MM dig a bit deeper, and try to find even MORE obscure 'voices' for the Right.

ROFLMAO !!!

I had a history prof who lectured on this one, too.

At the time of the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution, the Founding Fathers believed that all those " Men who are created equal;" ammounted to about 7 % of the population. No women, no blacks, no Indians, no slaves or indentured servants, nobody under 21 ( in those days of very short life span and functional adulthood at 13 or 14.). Nobody who had committed a crime. Also nobody who couldn't read and write, didn't own property or have a recognized trade, didn't pay a poll tax.

NO wonder the Tea Party wants to roll things back to what the Founding Fathers had in mind.

Was I defending O'Reilly? Was that what I was doing by pointing out that even a whackadoo like Billo thinks Boortz is a piece of shit?

Keep defending Boortz, though, by all means. You never did explain away his referring to the Katrina victims as "debris", did you? Go ahead, defend away, all day long.

Maybe you can also defend his statement that we should give each illegal alien a box of nuclear waste to take with them when they're deported, and tell them that they can use it to warm their tortillas.

Go ahead, tell us all how racist and idiotic he isn't.

Huh. So you'll dismiss any quotes that are cited by Media Matters, but you'll use UNVERIFIED quotes to justify your own views. How quaint.

You mean more obscure than ALEXANDER FRASER TYTLER, LORD WOODHOUSELEE?

ROFLMAO, indeed!!!

But thanks for the assertion that Jonah Goldberg and Michael Savage are obscure voices. I'm sure they think you're pretty obscure, too. ;)

Item 1-- since when did the opinion of an ENGLISH LORD, from the 1770's, have any authority, legal or intellectual, over America? Shoulda been discredited, like George III.

Item 2- from Wikipedia-- took e about 5 minutes to look this up--
Quote:

The following unverified quotation has been attributed to Tytler, most notably as part of a longer piece which began circulating on the Internet shortly after the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election.

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.
( There's more, snipped.)

There is no reliable record of Alexander Tytler's having made the statement. In fact, this passage actually comprises two quotations, which didn't begin to appear together until the 1970s. The first portion (italicized above) first appeared on December 9, 1951, as part of what appears to be an op-ed piece in The Daily Oklahoman under the byline Elmer T. Peterson.

The point, that when the people can vote themselves goodies from the public trough, it'll end w/ the collapse of a nation, is a valid one.

Just look at Greece.

Or most of the "red" states, where they take from the rest of us far more than they put into this country, and where those red states and their constant begging are what is ruining this country.

Right?

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello Mike,

Interesting topic. I think the Republicans want to limit who can vote- NOT because they oppose people voting themselves largesse...

But rather they want to change who can do so. Apparently, only certain people qualify to rig the game and rob the till.

Meanwhile, Rappy hasn't had a single thing of substance to offer on the quotes themselves. Instead, he's done nothing but strawman, ad hominem, and deflect. Not a single thing on the topic itself.

I'll try to hide my shock.
