12-year-old girl shoots kidnapper

In October of last year, a 12-year-old girl was home alone when a man broke into the house after pounding on the door. The young girl called her mom and her mom said,

“Get the family gun, go hide in the closet, and call 911.”

“I usually just sit on the couch and watch TV,” 12 year-old Kendra said.

That is until she heard her door bell ring.

“I didn’t know who the guy was when I saw him, so I didn’t answer,” she said.

She went to the blinds to get a closer look at the man at her door.

That’s when she says 32-year-old Stacey Jones started pounding on her door.

Scared and worried, she called her mom.

“She said ‘Mom I think he’s going to the back door’ and I said you go get the gun and you get in my closet right now and call 911,” Debra St.Clair said.

“I was sitting in the closet really scared holding the gun, not knowing what was going to happen. When he turned the door handle I shot towards him with my mom’s gun and it hit him in the arm,” Kendra St. Clair said.

She says after she shot Jones in the shoulder he ran out of the bathroom. The gun she used was a Glock .40 cal.

She stayed on the phone with the 911 dispatcher the entire time she was in the closet.

She didn’t leave until the dispatcher told her it was okay.

“I was shaking. I didn’t know what to do. I was kind of hesitant about the whole thing. The whole time I was scared and I was sad and crying. I couldn’t believe it was happening,” she said.

Today she is being called a hero by many for her bravery.

Although severely shaken, police say she was able to remain calm and think logically.

“She has set a good example today. I don’t know of many women, men or young girls who would have been able to do what she did today,” Debra St. Clair said.

The young girl says she attributes her actions to her mother.

“She helped me to remain calm and told me that everything was going to be okay. I knew exactly what to do because I was brave and I heard her voice just running through my head saying it’s okay, it’s okay,” she said.

Police say St. Clair did exactly what she should have done.

It was later revealed that the intruder was also arrested in 2011 for abducting a 17-year-old girl. Because the mother decided to own a gun and teach her daughter how to use it, this 12-year-old girl is not only alive today, but she is a hero for doing what some anti-gun activists don’t want homeowners to do. For some reason they think it’s better to become a victim than to give the bad guys what they really deserve.

We live in a time where many parents teach their children that guns are bad. I know some parents that will not even allow their kids to own squirt guns or even Nerf guns. But maybe they are forgetting that schools in America used to actually teach children how to shoot responsibly. There were classes and shooting ranges that allowed school children to learn how to hunt, aim, and defend themselves. But since the schools aren’t doing their job, at least this mother is doing hers, and allowed her daughter to become a hero instead of a statistic.
