We knew it was coming, didn't we?

The budget deal that emerged this week was crafted to win support of Democrats and Republicans alike, and that's simply a bridge too far for one tea party congressman.

“This bill is not designed to get our vote,” Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) said ( http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/366064/house-conservatives-ryan-m
urray-deal-isnt-designed-get-our-vote-betsy-woodruff
) Wednesday at a meeting hosted by the Heritage Foundation. “This bill is designed to pass with bipartisan support in the House.”

The deal, hashed out by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), has been met with stiff resistance by many in the GOP's most conservative wing.

Heritage Action, the powerful political arm of the Heritage Foundation, came out against the budget and right-wing firebrand Brent Bozell predicted ("Brent Bozell Thinks Ryan's Budget Deal Will Lead To A Conservative Insurrection In The GOP", http://www.gotnewswire.com/news/brent-bozell-thinks-ryans-budget-deal-
will-lead-to-a-conservative-insurrection-in-the-gop
) that the budget will cause the GOP's conservative base to "stampede away from a party that has lost its principles and bearings.”

Mulvaney's comments encapsulate the spirit of a movement typified by ideological rigidity more than compromise.

"Conservative insurrection"?? That's what we already HAVE, in both houses…only it's a TEA PARTY insurrection, not a "conservative" one.

There it is yet again: "This is not designed to get our vote"--in other words, their votes are the only ones that count. If something is designed to get the majority of our representatives' votes, not to bow to the ultra-right-wing minority, it's no good. In other words, once again, "We will control everything; if we can't control everything, we will STOP everything until we can get control."

Yep.

There it goes. Right through the House, 332 to 94.

ETA: Interesting that more Republicans voted for it that Democrats. And what's with more than a third of the 'Nay' votes coming from Democrats?

"what's with more than a third of the 'Nay' votes coming from Democrats?" One third of the 'nay' votes from Democrats because Democrats don't like it, but they understood the need to move forward, so the vast majority of them agreed to vote for it:
Quote:

Democrats weren't thrilled with the agreement but reluctantly accepted it as an improvement on the status quo. They're angry that it doesn't extend emergency unemployment benefits, which are set to expire on Dec. 28; they believe it serves special interests by failing to unwind any tax loopholes for corporations; they dislike the effective pension cuts for federal workers.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reportedly urged Democrats to "embrace the suck" so that they could move forward. She told reporters that she while she doesn't like the bill, it's "an OK thing to vote for."

The difference is, Democrats know how to COMPROMISE--a word unknown to the current rabid Tea Partiers in Congress these days. Dems knew the Republicans needed Democrat votes to help it pass, so 32 of those who felt strongly against it could vote against it without it stopping the bill.

This isn't a "Democrat's budget", there's a lot in it that Democrats don't like. But unlike the way the Republicans in Congress have been behaving for YEARS now, Democrats recognize that compromise is necessary for the government to function. You know, to avoid another crisis, another shutdown, for the good of the country.

The Orange Man understands:

Boehner said in urging his colleagues to back the plan, (that) it resulted from "doing what the American people expect us to do -- coming together and finding common ground." http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/12/politics/congress-budget/]

And so does Ryan:
Quote:

"That's the nature of compromise. In a divided government you don't get everything you want. But I think this bill is a firm step in the right direction. It's not perfect, it's a start," Ryan said on the House floor. "It gives us the added benefit of preventing Washington from this lurch from crisis to crisis. We're bringing stability to the budget process." http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/no-more-shutdowns-house-passes-ryan-mu

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I don't feel the need to compromise, when "moving forward" means moving in the wrong direction. I'm not against compromise, but when you compromise and you keep ON compromising while the other side refuses, that's not compromise, that's appeasement. Or being a patsy. I'd be voting against it.

I personally hope that the reichwing keeps up IT'S "uncompromising" stance.
