Yepper, they want to secede from their city and form a new one, to keep "poor" kids out of their schools. Brown vs Board of Education doesn't apply if you're in a different city, maybe even if you're in a different school district.

But it couldn't possibly be because those rich families and kids are white, and because "poor" is a code word for "black." Nah, not a chance... even though the socio-economic stats line up that way.

That's right up there with, "I gotta sent my kids to a private school because the education in the public schools is so crappy, I just want my kids to get a better education. Has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the private school is 99 + % white, and there are BLACK CHILDREN in the public one. "

Also pretty damn selfish of them -- "I want my tax dollars to be spent on stuff that benefits ME and MINE, not everybody. But if something comes along that benefits ME, I want everybody's taxes to pay into it."

Didn't we used to have, don't we maybe still have, something called a social contract, where we do things that benefit everyone, even if it costs us individuals some money that we don't get back in direct benefit?

Ted Cruz and Sheila Jackson Lee join forces for school choice

January 27, 2014

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas and Rep, Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas are not usually on the same side of any issue. But they agree on the issue of school choice, an idea that students should be able to attend private and parochial schools with their tuition subsidized with tax dollars. The theory is that throwing in competition would force the public school system to reform while channeling children to better run private schools.

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen
