This one is mostly for Siggy, in regards to previous discussions about the Mainstream Medias compliance and complicity, feeding distortions and distractions to foster agendas instead of committing journalism.

People-Powered Media Mobilizes Masses While Mass Media Remains Silent
If we continue to build the independent, people-powered media, greater numbers of people will build up immunity to the destructive misinformation of corporate media.

Quote:

We are in the midst of an era of media transition. The corporate media is facing tremendous financial, employee and audience challenges. At the root of their problem is credibility. In 2004, Gallup reported that “39% currently say they have ‘not very much’ confidence in the media's accuracy and fairness, while 16% say they have ‘none at all.’” Gallup reported this was the lowest credibility rating in three decades. But, the decline continued and by 2012, Gallup reported that distrust of the media had risen by 5% to 60% having little or no trust in the media – a new record. A 2013 Gallup poll found only 1 in 4 Americans trust television or newspaper news.

Which is what repeated lying, fearmongering, and crying wolf gets you - the biggest hit to that credibility actually came from the admission that they'd spiked stories to appease the current and former administration and their alphabet goons, people tend to get tetchy when someone else KNEW the screwjob was goin on and didn't tell em.

Of course, one downside to the wider availability of media is that for them who make denial of reality a lifestyle (rightwingnuts, general wackjobs, corporate 'economists'..) it's also much easier to find a source that tells you nothing but what you want to hear, tightening the confirmation-bias and denial spiral, but frankly those shitheads ain't worth trying to convince even if they do have power, because you can take it away by convincing sane people not to listen to em or take their orders easy enough.

I did rather predict that Mainstream Media would push too hard on their frog boiling, and wind up with a bunch of annoyed frogs with scorched asses hoppin around the kitchen croaking displeasure - but what I didn't expect was for the dumb fucks to turn the heat up even faster...
LOOK HERE, NO NOT THERE, HERE, THIS, NOW!
BREAD AND CIRCUSES, CELEBRITIES, LOOK THIS WAY!
PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE SCARY SPOOKS BEHIND THE CURTAIN!
ME ME ME, HEY LOOK OVER THERE!

And so forth and so on, and people *notice*, people get annoyed, people go lookin elsewhere for information, and then they get *REALLY* pissed when they figure out just how much they've been had, been lied to...
Interesting days, these are.
