After sitting through this winter, I feel I have the patience for anything Sigs.... :)

That was a little weird to sit through though. I've only just recently become copacetic with my own personal translations of old Sublime songs because I have befriended Spanish speaking Americans later in my life.

Kent State....

U.S. History....

I thought you were old enough. My apologies, but good for us, right?

We've never seen what was done to us before we were born.... :(

EDITED TO ADD: I'm only 5 minutes into your video while finishing this post..... :(

Sorry, but I could only get about six minutes in before the bullshit detectors got too loud.

I see one-sided coverage, selective editing, scripted interviews, etc. in the U.S. press all the time. This is just wwwaaaayyy more obvious.

Or is there something farther on in the video that's actually surprising?

I know you think it's propaganda. It is. But the people who're being interviewed aren't lying, and they don't represent a minority opinion. They're telling the truth, as they see it. In order to understand what the other side thinks, you have to LISTEN TO THEM.

There is to me. Aside from the interviews, there are videos of events on-the-ground like nothing that the western press has presented. I find these very revealing.

Are BOTH sides represented in the western press? If you want to see BOTH sides, you have to watch BOTH.

BTW - if watching actual events on video - like Nazi paramilitary groups firing on unarmed police to overthrow a democratically elected government - isn't an education in reality - then what is?

Siggy, allow me to remind you of the futility of trying to convince authoritarian sociopaths to actually give a fuck about something they can't find a way to turn to personal advantage....

That said, another place you might find interest in digging is the current hissyfits going on behind closed doors in Washington DC, cause between this event sparked without orders or authorization by leftover Neocons in the State Dept, and revelations about the degree of spying/harrassment/intimidation/blackmail of Congresscritters by the alphabet soup goons, shits starting to get a little real in the fight over who's in charge of who - and some surprising factors are stoking the flames, unexpectedly.

Mind you, we always knew the alphabet soup goons did this shit, but proof-in-hand is some serious shit, especially when even that jackboot licker Feinstein is all up in arms about it, cause while she could care less about us peons, they did that shit to HER and now all of the sudden its an issue....
*eyeroll*

Me, I am kinda hoping that all goes circular firing squad, cause needling the ego and control issues of Congresscritters is MUCH cheaper than bribery, when you want em to hop a certain way.

This time ?

One might remember in the 1930's Corporate America thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, up to and including a blatant plot to pull off a coup, thankfully derailed by Smedley Butler.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot

We also supported Franco right up to the 1970's, and then there's Pinochet, Noriega, The Contras, and so on and so forth - one could almost say Fascism is our primary export.

Yet Moscow still (foolishly?) believes international law should be respected — presenting to the UN Security Council classified information on all Western intel/psy-ops moves leading to the coup in Kiev, including "training" provided by Poland and Lithuania, not to mention Turkish intelligence involvement in setting up a second coup in Crimea. Russian diplomats called for an unbiased international investigation. That will never happen; Washington's narrative would be completely debunked. Thus a U.S. veto at the UN.

One can only imagine, given how awful the crap that's already *public* has been, how blatant, illegal, and frankly, sickening.

Having failed to provoke a nuclear exchange, the Deep State cronies are now trying to push a return to the fucking cold war, which is not surprising really, since their Corporate backers wish to roll us back to the "good ole days" of the 19th fuckin century.

I figure a just punishment for these bastards would be forced exile to the countries who's societies and infrastructures they destroyed, let them live the consequences of it all.

RUSSIA SHUTS DOWN MORE OPPOSITION NEWS WEBSITES

The media is still under attack in Russia. Moscow shut down three news websites critical of the Kremlin and the blog of longtime opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

The government communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, said Grani.ru, Kasparov.ru and Yezhednevny Zhurnal (Daily Journal) have carried incitements to unlawful behavior and participation in unauthorized mass gatherings. It said the ban was requested by the Prosecutor General's Office and Internet providers are now under instructions to implement the block.

Garry Kasparov is in charge of Kasparov.ru and he is one of the most outspoken critics of President Vladimir Putin. His Twitter feed is filled with criticisms of the Kremlin and pointers for the West on how to make Russia back down. He has also appeared on many American shows, including The Lead with Jake Tapper on CNN and Cavuto on FOX Business.

Wouldn't it seem logical to think that any info that gets out, putting blame more on the side of the Ukrainians than the Russians, does so at the behest of Putin ?

As usual, Obama is on the wrong side. He was wrong about backing the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, wrong about backing the Islamic rebels in Libya, and wrong about backing Al Qaeda in Syria. Now he's backing Ukraine against Putin, drawing more meaningless red lines, and looking once again like the village (community) idiot that he is.

But worse than Obama is John McCain. He wants to send weapons to Ukraine to help fight off the Rooskies. With weapons inevitably go the advisors. I guess he's hoping for a new Viet Nam.

Ron Paul: U.S. should let Ukraine solve its own problems

Quote:

Former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul says the U.S. should keep its hands off of the quickly developing situation in Ukraine and let the country solve its own problems, arguing that Americans understand “that our interventionist foreign policy is only creating more enemies overseas.”

“If you asked most Americans how they feel, my bet is that you would discover they are sick and tired of the US government getting involved in every crisis that arises,” Mr. Paul, Texas Republican, wrote in his weekly column under the headline “Leave Ukraine Alone!” “Certainly the American people want none of this intervention in Ukraine.”

Libertarians aren't monolithic in their views. Siggy seems to think that one must be PURE , and in line w/ some high authority in order for one to call themselves a "Libertarian "

Point of fact, I've not really stated yet very much on the issue, save for when I have seen true weakness on Obama and this administration's part. I see that Jongsstraw has taken a stab at predicting the future. So I thought I'd copy over some of my plausible scenarios from a previous thread here, try to extend them a bit, and wonder if anyone else wants to take a few guesses as to what's going to happen next. Some of my plausible scenarios have already happened or are still in process, I'll point those out.

Quote:

KIEV AND THE WEST CALL CRIMEAN VOTE A "SHAM"
The government in Kiev called the Crimean referendum a "sham". Citing territorial integrity, the government in Kiev - which has yet to stand for election- said it would refuse to recognize the vote, and that Crimea should be returned to the Ukraine.

Curiously, the government in Kiev used that very word "sham". Other words used to describe the referendum were illegal and illegitimate. The west will continue to call the referendum illegal, and refuse to recognize the results, but the USA press is already preparing the population for a pro-Russia vote by caveating all of their most recent coverage with "Of course, the population here in Crimea IS largely pro-Russian, but...". I agree with Jongsstraw- Crimea is gone. The west gave up on it a month ago. So there will be huffing and puffing and a failure to recognize the outcome of the vote, but no military action will occur, just economic sanctions.

Quote:

KIEV SEEKS CONTROL OF EASTERN UKRAINE
Through a series of coordinated actions by the far-right Kiev government security appointees, the Secretary of National Security and Defence Parubiy (Svoboda), The Secretary of National Security Yarsoh (Right Sector), Deputy Rrime Minister Sych (Svoboda), Acting Chief Prosecutor Makhnitskyy (Svoboda), Security Services Chief Nalyvaichencko, and Minister of Defence Tenhyuk (Svoboda) have embarked on a program of troop repositioning and preventive indictments against potential pro-Russian movements.

This is already occurring. Yes, all of the interior and border security ministries and departments of the "free Ukraine" are headed by either the Svoboda (far right) party or the Right Sector (even farther right) party. These were the people that you saw beating, shooting at, and burning unarmed police (if you watched the video).

I don't know what's going to happen in eastern Ukraine. There have already been fatal conflicts between Kiev and pro-Russian groups, with government buildings being switched between Kiev and Russian flags several times. One force to consider is the Berkut- the police who were sent in unarmed in the middle of an armed revolt. They may either just melt into Crimea or they may take a stand in the various eastern Ukraine cities.

Quote:

MORE RUSSIAN-SPEAKING PROVINCES ARRANGE FOR REFERENDA
Russian-speaking Ukrainian troops battle Ukrainian-speaking troops from Kiev and take control of government buildings in Donetsk and other eastern Urkainian cities. Newly appointed "people's governors" arrange for referenda on thefuture of their city, or province.

Going out on a limb with this one. It depends how many right-wing shock troops Kiev is going to devote to this region.

Quote:

KIEV CLAIMS RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE IN DONETSK AND OTHER EASTERN CITIES, SENDS IN MORE TROOPS
Kiev has claimed that Russian troops, disguised as pro-Russian militants, have taken over government buildings and have shot several Ukrainian citizens. Kiev sends in additional troops from western Ukraine to quell these disturbances and oust the invaders.

Will Kiev involve the official military? I think so. But they will have to send in troops from western Ukraine. I can't imagine them relying on the loyalty of the troops in the occupied east.

Quote:

ON REQUEST FROM PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENTS OF EAST UKRAINE, RUSSIA SENDS IN TROOPS
These troops cross the border to "protect Russian citizens".

I think Russia is looking for any excuse to send in troops.

Quote:

THE WEST PLACES ADDITIONAL SANCTIONS ON RUSSIA
In addition to visa restrictions and asset freezes, the West places a general banking freeze on Russian transactions.

I can't imagine the west being so stupid as to send in troops, altho they may bring missiles forward into western Ukraine.

Quote:

RUSSIA PLACES COUNTER-SANCTIONS ON THE WEST
The sale of natural gas is restricted. Russian businesses owing money to western banks and enterprises default. Russia begins a massive US Treasuries sale.

Russia has been weaning itself from Western finance for a while. In 2013, a law was passed which made owning any assets outside Russia (except for property) a crime. Putin has been extremely harsh cracking down on banks which fail to meet liquidity standards... 60 have been closed in the last 6 months alone.

I think this will become a war of attrition.

Quote:

KIEV DELAYS NATIONAL ELECTIONS
Citing national security, the transitional government of Kiev has canceled national elections indefinitely. When asked whether this would effect aid and loan guarantees from the West, and IMF loans, western sources and IMF head Christine Lagarde said they did not foresee any difficulty with the Ukrainian government being able to maintain its financial authority over the nation. There are many upcoming agreements to be signed with the EU.

This is a necessity, because otherwise the government will nto be able to meet the terms of its various debts.

Quote:

KIEV ANNOUNCES AUSTERITY
Because of the cutoff of natural gas deliveries and the subsequent price hike, the transitional Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatseniuk, has announced that natural gas subsidies would be cut back significantly. The IMF has insisted, as it has done with most of its governmental loans, that subsidies be cut in order to shore up governmental finances. Yatseniuk, himself a banker and favored by the United States to head the transitional government, has full authority to obtain loans and sign international agreements, according to the EU and the USA.

This is a foregone conclusion. Ukraine is bankrupt. Only loans from the IMF and aid from the west are keeping it afloat. But neither aid nor loans will be enough to kick-start the Ukrainian economy, and the west only has so much spare money to lend. Sooner or later... sometime in the next two or three years... the tap will be shut off and the IMF will demand its pound of flesh.

Quote:

MAIDAN SQUARE ERUPTS AGAIN

THE SVOBODA-PARTY IN CHARGE OF INTERNAL SECURITY BEGINS THE ROUNDUP OF DISAFFECTED UKRAINIANS

Because a lowered standard of living is not what the people signed up for. They thought being in the west meant that they would be rich, too.

And your proof of this is??? You do realize that RT is the mouthpiece of the Russian government, don't you?
You don't have to get people to lie, all you have to do is be selective about who you put on air. I noticed that most of the people were middle-aged, or older. Also, they WERE speaking Russian. This fits in with the demographics that I've read about elsewhere.

One way to tell whether or not I'm reading the situation correctly... applying "critical thinking"... is whether or not I can guess ahead to the future. I've put my ideas out there several times on this issue (and on many others).

If you want to take over for me in the critical thinking department, stop whinging and kvetching and feel free to do some projections of your own.

And may the most accurate win.

With 79% Turnout, Exit Polls Confirm 93% Of Voters Back Crimea Joining Russia; US,UK Rejects Results

Quote:

With a voter turnout (79.09%) that exceeded every US Presidential election since 1900, the people of Crimea have spoken:

*CRIMEA JOINING RUSSIA BACKED BY 93% OF VOTERS: EXIT POLL
*U.K. FOREIGN SECRETARY: U.K. WON'T RECOGNIZE CRIMEAN REFERENDUM

Ukraine's leaders have called up 20,000 men for a newly-created National Guard as despite the so-called "truce" Russian APCs and Tanks are rolling. Pro-Russian supporters are burning books in Donetsk after storming anti-Russian buildings.

The White House is already out rejecting the vote (before the final results are released).

Of course. Because democracy is only meaningful when the Administration gets the results that it wants.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

I'll take a stab at it.

First of all, I have to caveat - never underestimate the potential for neocon 'crazy'. If everyone is making rational decisions in their own best interest, then I think it enhances predictability. But you never know what a true fanatic will do.

Anyway -

Russia has been blunt and determined. They're not making conciliatory moves. They HAVE and ARE moving ships and troops, both as a gesture of intent and as a measure of preparedness. And they are already prepared to go to war - economic and military. I don't expect them to unilaterally escalate the situation. No matter who ultimately wins, war is painful. So, don't expect provocation or escalation, do expect vigorous responses from that direction.

As an aside, I find the differences between these two maps very interesting. The first is from Forbes, the second from the WashPost

When it comes to the press, expect more reporting like this: "West prepares sanctions as Russia presses on with Crimea takeover"

Germany more than any other European country is deeply involved. Recently it's announced it is in line with the US. Expect Germany to go along with the US.

The UN Security Council failed to pass a vote refusing to recognize the Crimean referendum. Russia vetoed it, interestingly China abstained. Expect the UN to continue to try and represent the interests of the IMF.

The US is desperately trying to get other countries and international organizations to coerce Russia into going along with western Ukraine and give up Crimea. It itself doesn't want to go to war over that. Sanctions are another option. But I think the western economies will find that it hurts the west far more than Russia. Crimea will ultimately be divided from the Ukraine.
But that leaves the rest of the Ukraine in peculiar legal limbo, a fact everyone is only too happy to ignore for the present. If you reach an agreement with a country, and that country transforms into a different entity, does your old agreement with the old country still apply to the new one?
I think agreements between the Ukraine and IMF (and other entities) will be made and considered 'legitimate', behind the fig leaf that the current state of the Ukraine is only temporary. However, that will become increasingly problematic as the Ukraine tries to legitimize itself and has to address its new state.
I too expect the current 'temporary' government to suspend elections, and to engage in a low-level territorial war its war with Russia. Here's where the 'crazy' comes in - that war could be escalated depending on how much support the government receives from the neo-cons.

Oh I am sure they do, they just don't CALL it that when they do it, cause they're gutless, perfidous scum who don't even have the minimal amount of courage required to own up to their own conduct even on the internet, safely free of real life consequence, because of their absolute terror of ever being held accountable in any way for their words and deeds, and the awful damage their jackboot licking inflicts about the world around them.

Seriously, one might remember these are the same scum which deny fellating the Bush adminstration when we WATCHED THEM DO IT, so expecting them to have any more moral courage than a pirahna infested toilet bowl is kind of a futile proposition to begin with - and the only term that really applies to the gutless motherfuckers... is quisling.

Me, I stand behind what I believe, regardless of the odds, but them, they stand for NOTHING but worship of power, and licking the boots of those who have it, period.

And they should be treated accordingly, thrown under the bus at the first opportunity by any power which realizes how STUPID it is to leave such gullible dumbfucks laying around for someone else to manipulate, or skinned alive and torched by people betrayed one too many times by such scum begging for oppression because as mentally damaged Authoritarian slime, they know of no other social concept.

Me, I am ALL FOR skinned and torched, and would have utterly no problem whatever doing it with my own two hands, given the atrocities they have historically enabled, and continue to enable.

What's his record btw?
Your post is bass-akwards. You answered your question BEFORE you asked it.

So, let me re-ask the question, seriously and not rhetorically: What IS his record? Did he invade Afghanistan and Iraq? Destroy Libya? Supply money and training to jihadists in Syria?

I see you proved Frem's point for him. Good on you!

FWIW, I've been followed by the FBI. They don't appreciate being sent on wild goose-chases, so if you really did this (which I'm sure you didn't) their next point of interest would be you. Ukraine Hikes Tensions Again, Says Russian Army Concentrated Near East Border For "Quick Invasion"

Putin Declares No Interest in Ukraine

I post this without links to point out that the current provisional government in Kiev- in particular the security agencies and departments which are under control of the fascist Svoboda and Right Sector parties- have every interest in fanning the flames, in the hopes of involving the EU and the USA.

However, I'm also reasonably certain that Putin's statement is also false.
