Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...
Quote:Caught on audio and video, an old white man demanded an African-American woman to surrender her seat and move to the back of the bus. She asks him why and then it gets uglier from there as he targets her hairstyle and invokes Donald Sterling. Quote:BLACK PASSENGER: Why? WHITE PASSENGER: “Because the back of the bus is over there… I mean the black of the bus is over there.” BLACK PASSENGER: “…Excuse me? WHITE PASSENGER: “Yes, I want that seat.” BLACK PASSENGER: “Why do I have to go to the back of the bus?” WHITE PASSENGER: “I want that seat.” BLACK PAASENGER: “No, I’m not getting up cause you’re being..no..you’re being racist.” Other passengers then get involve and ask the man why he doesn’t go sit at the back of the bus, to which the old white racist responds: “See, this is why we need Donald Sterling.” At that point, the black female passenger tries to explain equality to him and then he attacks her hair, calling it “nappy.” Multiple passengers get involved and nearly toss him off the bus. The only reason he isn’t is because the woman intervenes and pleads for them to be the better people in the situation. This is what 2014 America looks like right now. In the eyes of the world, our nation is re-fighting the Civil Rights movement and the Civil War. Racists like Cliven Bundy and Donald Sterling are high profile examples of racism that have occurred this year. But other examples of shocking racism happen all the time despite GOP claims that racism is in America’s past. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/05/07/back-of-the-bus/

Quote:Originally posted by Niki2: I disagree. As long as we ignore such things, some people will go right on claiming racism is dead, some actually believe it. Also, the right has encouraged racism (conscious AND unconscious) for years now; it has empowered racists in government, made negative changes in our country and harmed people. I think we need to go right on pointing out racism.
