Has Obamacare's 29-hour rule backfired on you or anyone you know yet?

I'm not looking to start any fights here about it, and actually I'd prefer not to hear from any of the Righties at all unless they have similar stories and can tell them with as much "I told you so" stripped away as you can before posting. I'm just asking if you or anyone you know is going through the same hardships as me and the people I work with.

I know I mentioned long ago that this was going to happen, maybe even last year, but it wasn't until two weeks ago that the mandate came down at my store. There were a few responsible guys and gals that I work with who were allowed 39.99 hours a week, so long as we didn't go a second into Overtime....

Well, not anymore.... The day the mandate came down, we were only allowed 29 hours per week as part time associates. That's 40 hours a month of lost wages. I know I only make $8 bucks an hour, so that only equates to $320 a month gross, but when you consider that it also means that unless I get a better job or a 2nd part time job, I have to now make due with only $928 a month gross (which is more like $750 after taxes, since I'm single without kids and I get taxed higher and receive less breaks than anyone else).

At nearly $2,300 for property taxes and home/car insurance alone, that leaves me with less than $625 a month to pay all of my monthly expenses.

The most I can hope to make a year at this job is around $9,750 after taxes now.

I'm not saying that I can't live off of that... I managed to do it last year, actually. This year I was picking up all the extra hours I could though and I managed to actually save $2,500 in 6 months which I will use to install gutters and bring my sump pump system into the 21st century so I'll never worry about flooding again.

There is no way I can save that kind of money now. Not only that, but I've been lucky. I still don't have health insurance and nothing terrible has happened to me yet. I also didn't have any major car or home repairs happen in the last year and 1/2. I already felt like I was just one major accident away from losing everything, but at least I was making forward progress to do some major upgrades that need to be done to the house.

With my credit score, it would be quite a while before I had to worry about filing the Big B. I haven't had any debt since August of 2005. Let's face it.... I'm not exactly Mr. Sunshine, even when everything is going my way. After going on 9 years of being beholden to no one, I really couldn't say how I would behave if I actually had to use a credit card knowing that I wasn't going to be able to pay it off at the end of the cycle.

At the same time, in my state they didn't expand medicaid. As little as I will make even relegated to 29 hours a week, I still make too much money as a single person household to qualify for healthcare.

I'm on vacation for the next week, so I'm going to do my best to try and not think about this too much.

If this "Act" stands a chance, they better somehow fix the loophole that ends up hurting tons of low income part-timers in America.

Did They really think that all of the sudden all of the part time people working over 30 hours a week were going to get "free healthcare" at the expense of the shareholders of WalMart or Costco or Kmart or Lowes or Home Depot, etc.....?

Of course not. Hire 10 more people and cut everyone's hours down to 29.....

Nice try guys.....

Care to try again?

You want to hear what everybody knew, what many here told others about, but you don't want any mention of what was told. Hmmmm...

Does the business in question have over 50 employees? Because those are the only ones that the mandatory coverage applies to.

If so, that sucks, if not, your employers might be feeding you lines.

The sad thing is that we really did need healthcare reform and claims protections and premium caps to keep insurance companies honest, but the clusterfuck that got drafted up had so much other garbage that making it all universally mandatory was basically guaranteed to screw people over.

Hillary worked very hard on a single payer plan that never happened. Once she's president, and the teanderthals have been rousted, and there are enough actual progressives in congress, we may just get universal healthcare, and join the first world in caring for our own.

You just don't want the economy to ever recover, do you? You just won't be satisfied until everybody in America is unemployed, right?

The business in question here has thousands of employees nationwide.

I used to be able to work 39.99 hours a week without getting written up for overtime. Now we aren't able to work over 29 (they don't even want us flirting with 30).

$320 dollars in lost wages, forced upon us by the federal government.

What's a brotha to do?

You're getting better at that. Even though I knew it was snark I still feel compelled to remind you that he can only run two terms (thank goodness).

Why would you think that?
What is going to stop KingObama?
There exists no hint or rule he cannot ignore, no law he cannot break with impunity.
If you suggest he should be restricted from further office due to the 22nd, you are only saying that because you are a racist and he is black, and you shall be hanged from the nearest tree.

AURAPTOR

America loves a winner!

Just wait until the employer mandate kicks in.

At least, for those who did not get exemptions.

Obama is a million miles from JFK.

I won't even argue that point with somebody who's never read an autobiography, Ever, even including their favorite music artists....

The damage that this man has done to the average american citizen.......

Shit's tighter here, but I hardly have bills....... Everyone else in my situation is either and/or ruined by government support.

The ONLY thing that President Obama has done is instilled hope the future might be better for women while doing the opposite of trying to strengthen marriages while doing so.....

I imagine a disgusting world where nearly every attractive 19-24 year old girl is making her college tuition by extracting credit card payments from older men off the internet who are lonely.....

It's not an issue of morales. ALL of her hot friends are doing it and they walk around in the most expensive and sexy clothes. Why wouldn't they say yes to that....

The LOST GIRLS.......

I don't care how much you, Dear Reader, might hate men, but a world without Balance will implode and take you and everything you love with it.....

I think it's time for a little bit of balance and decades worth of healing.

Do Right, Be Right. :)
