The U.S. says aid and investment are contingent on African governments moving towards democracy and equal rights.

The Chinese say, "We don't care how you run your country as long as we can extract your natural resources...and by the way, here's some weapons for your army and police, and a nice chunk of change for your Swiss bank account."

"When your heart breaks, you choose what to fill the cracks with. Love or hate. But hate won't ever heal. Only love can do that."
