If you've been following the happenings in Turkey (which you haven't) you'd know that Erdogan's control over Turkey and his grand master plan for reconstituting the Ottoman Empire (look it up, it's pre-WWI) are falling apart. Originally, Erdogan tried to join the EU, but altho the European nations were willing (and eager) to have Turkey join NATO (as a bulwark against you-know-who) they dangled him over EU membership forever. Finally, about eight years ago, he decided to turn east- to Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Sunni mideast leadership specifically - for support, and took a decidedly Muslim turn. At least 75 planeloads of weapons were transhipped across Turkey from Saudi Arabia and Qatar to jihadists in Libya, and back again from Libya thru Turkey to Syria. Turkey has been supporting ISIL in Syria as part of the Sunni master plan to depose Assad. In addition, having brokered a cease-fire with the Kurds in SE Turkey, Erdogan broke it unilaterally and is now fighting the Turkish Kurds with tanks and troops in his own nation. He has been putting down demonstrations using water cannons, tear gas a rubber bullets. He's done a lot of other shit that if I wrote it, you wouldn't believe.

The paper that was taken over BY ERDOGAN'S GOVERNMENT was often critical of Erdogan. That was the reason for the government takeover. Thinking that Russia had anything to do with it is either ignorance, prejudice, or lunacy. Erdogan doesn't need Putin's help in self-destructing, he's doing that all on his own pretty well.

But yanno? There's a lot happening in Turkey, and it deserves a thread of its own, not dangling off the ass-end of a thread on Syria. And that is exactly where this is going!

ERDOGAN has taken a play out of Putin's play book. Putin has destroyed the press in his country. Putin outright kills people in the press. The number of people is high and growing. Your constant support of Putin while this occurs and no matter what else he does, destroys your credibility. So you should steer clear of this topic.

Anyway, I thought you were leaving?

WISH: You often speak against ignorance, so why are you participating in it?

TURKEY, STILL SHIPPING WEAPONS ON BEHALF OF SUNNI EXTREMISTS

Quote:

We yesterday described what looks like a Turkish-Saudi plan to raise a Salafi-Sunni militia in north Lebanon to then attack nearby Syrian regions held by the Syrian government. Such a new front of the conflict in Syria would necessarily involve fighting in Lebanon as the Lebanese Shia Hizbollah movement is actively supporting the Syrian government. The plot would destabilize Lebanon, probably throwing it back into the brutal times of the Lebanese civil war.

There was no confirmation of such a plot yesterday, just several signs for it like the ship with weapons from Turkey that was caught by the Greek coastguard on its way to north Lebanon.

The existence of such a plan was confirmed today. We still can no say for sure that the plot is part of a U.S. "Plan B" to achieve a violent "regime change" in Syria, but we know that the U.S. is informed about the plan.

In his Washington Post column today the unofficial CIA spokesperson David Ignatius writes about the Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman:

The young Saudi has sometimes been more bold than wise, as in his war in Yemen, his decision to break diplomatic relations with Iran and his new effort to destabilize a Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon.
...

Ignatius, as surely also the U.S. government, was informed by the Saudis themselves. The above quoted paragraph continues:

But his role as a change agent is unmistakable. He “wants to transition Saudi Arabia very quickly,” said Adel al-Toraifi, the Saudi information minister, who’s just 36 himself, in a visit to Washington last week.

My hunch is that this plan is too bold to have grown solely in the minds of the Turkish and Saudi regimes. The U.S. is likely not only informed about it but deeply involved. The possibility of such a plan to counter the recent Syrian and Russian successes on the battlefield was first mentioned in a piece published in early February by the Washington Institute, a think tank founded and funded by the Israel lobby.

Last week Secretary of State Kerry mentioned a "Plan B" should the recent cessation of hostilities in Syria fail:

US Secretary of State John Kerry provoked widespread speculation when he referred in testimony before the Foreign Relations Committee last week to “significant discussions” within US President Barack Obama's administration about a “Plan B” in Syria. The speculation was further stoked by a “senior official” who told CBS News that options under consideration included "'military-like' measures that would make it harder for the regime and its allies to continue their assault on civilians and US-backed rebels.”

A violent Salafi militia from Lebanon storming into Syria would certainly be a "'military-like' measures that would make it harder for the regime and its allies".

The author of the last linked text, Gareth Porter, dismissed the chance of a real "Plan B" but had not yet included the Lebanon plot scenario in his considerations. He continued:

Kerry suggested that the US was still a player in the Syrian contest for power. Regarding Chairman Bob Corker’s comment that the Russians had been “accomplishing their ends” in Syria, he argued that the Russians and the Syrian government could take control of Aleppo, but that “holding territory has always been difficult”. Kerry claimed that the Russians could not prevent the opposition [terrorists and Sunni extremists] from getting the weapons needed to continue the war, as long as the US and its allies were supporting them. He offered no explanation for that claim.

The Turkish-Saudi weapon smuggling into Lebanon is an explanation for the claim Kerry made. Syria and Russia are in the process of closing off the Syrian-Turkish border. If the Saudis can build a weapon pipeline into north Lebanon it will become quite difficult for Syria and its allies to hold the Syrian territory near the Lebanese border.

In a speech yesterday Hizbullah chief Nasrallah discussed the general Saudi threat to Lebanon at length but did not mention the Sunni militia plot:

"Saudi which treats Yemen, Syria, Iraq, and Bahrain like that, treats Lebanon the same way," Sayyed Nasrallah concluded, addressing the Saudis: "Your problem is with us, it is not with the country or with the Lebanese..."

Nasrallah is right, but the Saudis will not care when the Lebanese people or their country get hurt due to some nefarious scheme to attack Syria and Hizbullah. Nor will the United States.

There are obvious signs for a plan to use Saudi controlled Sunni militia from Lebanon against the Syrian government and its supporters. The U.S. is, in my view, very likely involved in this plot. But we still do not know if this plan will ever be implemented. The recent Saudi threat to send its army into Syria turned out to be a pure (dis-)information campaign to unsettle the Syrian government's side. The recent revelations about the plot in Lebanon and the "Plan B" may also be pure deception and illusionary to gain some leverage for the coming negotiations.

But the ship the Greek coastguard caught was real and such a plan would have a good chance to create lots of troubles for Syria and its supporters. My advice to the Syrian government and its allies is to prepare now to eventually counter it.

Because she's a rage-aholic who wants nothing more than to provoke others into a figurative screaming match on the inet. It gives her a chance to be the screaming, irrational, rage-filled lunatic she is. She likes it. It gets her rocks off.

Her poor daughter, living with that thing. And what must she be learning about the world and how to be in it?

That's funny, you didn't like Riona disparaging my family, but now you don't mind being a hypocrite now.

For what it's worth, I'm an awesome mom and wife. I do not even remotely need validation from the people I need the meat shield of the internet just to communicate with.

And yeah, I like being mad at things people should be mad at, and that could be fixed IF ONLY THE SOLUTION DIDN'T INVOLVE PEOPLE. Clearly, the only rational answer is euthanizing the planet, but since I lack the capabilities, I'll just settle for anger.

Yer welcome!

You wanted to make it personal? You got it dearie.

Let's see. You're angry because - even though you haven't bothered with the news coming out of Turkey in YEARS - you THINK Russia MIGHT have had something to do with Erdogan taking over a critical newspaper? THAT'S the source of your rage against evil?

Sounds pretty insane - oh, and inane, ignorant, and poor white trash-y - to me.

BTW, I'm not criticizing your family. No, it's directed at you personally because you're the asshole human you claim to be better than. And, don't fool yourself into thinking that your family doesn't know about this side of you. Believe me, people know. Even if you think you're doing a great job hiding it.

I just feel sorry for them. Jeez, no wonder your husband disappears into video games. He's trying to get away from you.

Ok first, if I wished I could show improperly edited posts, fractured sentences and poor punctuation from you time and time again. But as I and others continual point out. You do this when you’re frustrated. Knowing that pleases me.

Second. I just caught you again editing what I posted, and then quoting me with your edited version five minutes after me stating you do this in another thread. And yet, you don't seem to understand the meaning of the phrase "time and time again" that YOU posted ... it means REPEATEDLY. More than once or twice or occasionally.

time after time (also time and again or time and time again)

on very many occasions; repeatedly.
synonyms: frequently, regularly, often, very often, all the time, habitually, customarily, routinely;

I actually feel sorry for you. You do seem to have less than average mental skills. But I'm thinking you grew up with the idea you could never admit to any deficiencies or errors.

Son, the more you insist that you're right when you're so clearly wrong, the worse you look. Just sayin' ...

Turkey seizes control of [YET ANOTHER] news agency close to cleric Gulen: agency

Quote:

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkish authorities have seized control of the Cihan news agency, according to a statement from Cihan, widening the crackdown against supporters of U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, an influential foe of President Tayyip Erdogan.

http://ca.reuters.com/article/topNews/idCAKCN0WA0O6

Meanwhile, in negotiations with the EU to stop the flood of refugees, Turkey is bargaining for (1) more money (2) visa-free travel to the EU for its citizens and (3) entry into the EU.

First of all, Erdogan played a major role in shipping about 78 planeloads of Saudi and Qatari weapons thru his airport to extremists in Libya, and then back again from Libya to Syria. Since Erdogan played such a large role in creating the refugee crisis to begin with, it's only justice that he be stuck with them, with no recompense. The same goes for France, Britain, and the USA. I hope the rest of the EU finds its backbone.

Second, I think Erdogan is fighting for his political life. All the time that Erdogan was stoking jihadism across the Mideast and North Africa, the western press was quiet-quiet-quiet about his multi-year role. Now that the rift between the USA and the wahhabists/ Sunni extremists has come out into the open (and Saudi Arabia has meekly come back into the fold on Syria) Erodgan has been left dangling all by his lonesome. The USA administration has made its displeasure with Erdogan very plain- and as a result the USA press' coverage of Turkey has turned negative. [This should be yet another lesson on the malleability of western press to government agenda. (I'm sure you're already aware of problems with the "Russian press".] I say good riddance to bad trash. If only we could ditch Saudi Arabia and the rest of the GCC so easily.

But it's interesting to see how quickly Erdogan's plans unraveled. What with getting kickbacks from KSA and Qatar to transship weapons, and the illicit oil/ antiquities/ slave etc trade with ISIL in Syria enriching the family coffers, Erdogan and his family probably felt like they were sitting on top of the world. Now, they probably feel like sitting ducks. They has some sort of deal with Russia, but they made a huge mistake shooing down that Russian jet.

Hey, thanks man That was decent of ya.

Sorry I weren't home today to help.

I honestly don't give a damn about Turkey anyhow.

Not worth fighting with these two loons besides...

If you don't give a damn about Turkey, why did you get into such a hissyfit about it?

I mean, this a kind of a rhetorical question so you don't have to answer it, but you constantly bitch about people being ignorant and not making much sense. So why don't you follow your own oft-repeated diatribes and maybe study up a little bit before you start venting?

Yep, called that one.

I suppose I could waste all night proving how you specifically target me to get on your high horse to, but I just can't be bothered. *shrug

I actually know how to use my computer. I let it do the work for me. Keeping up with RWE is marginally more interesting than the tedious stuff I've been doing all day. Hence, I set my computer to finding things.

As for you specifically ... shrug. You could disappear tomorrow and I'd not really notice.

But I noticed that you failed to answer the question:

It would do you good IRL too, not just online.

Presidential elections are coming up in Turkiye in May.
Erdogan is running for re-election. So far, he's been an unreliable partner to both the USA/NATO and Russia, playing one off against the other to expand Turkiye's role and therefore his personal power (and family fortune).

Turkiye straddles the Straits of Bosporus and sits between the Mideast and the eastern Mediterranean. It also has the largest army in NATO.

And bc Erdogan has been tilting towards Russia/China lately, the USA passionately wants to replace Erdogan with someone more reliable.

Upcoming elections and natural disaster are a perfect oppty to engineer regime change in Turkiye. Thanks to Erdogan short sighted and corrupt rule, his government may not have the economic and political resilience to withstand their inflation crisis and natural disaster.

I feel sorry for the people of Turkey and Syria.

This isn't the first, second, or third building collapse in Turkiye. As I recall, many building collapses in Turkiye, India, Bangladesh ... even Florida ... have to do with poor quality concrete. Too much sand, not enough cement.

It has long been rumored that Erdogan's "economic miracle" was heavily dependent on the construction industry. It was also rumored that Erdogan was getting kickbacks from the construction industry, which was lightly regulated. Good engineering practices, building codes, and quality control not followed.
