“Does the mother have inflammation or diabetes, or is she obese?” Gu said. “These things could make the process of cleaning up mutations less efficient. This could give us some insight into why autism is rising,” and will be a subject for future studies, Gu said.

Buddha forbid that a woman that has diabetes, autoimmune diseases, or a weight problem and actually want to have a family. And if the kid pops out less than perfect we can just blame mom, right???

Shitty science. Really pisses me off. Like I've said a few times, all my health problems and my mothers come from her DAD. Grandma is still kicking at 91, not a damn thing wrong with that mitochondria...

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I doubt that what he says is true, and it's not even good science. It just sounds to me like he's flailing for an explanation.

IMHO, when they discover the true causes of autism, there will be no doubt.

Hillary is a WAR CANDIDATE, and that's just what we need, right? More war?

That's just it. Causes. Plural. There is so many different variations that one explanation could not possibly cover it all, but they seem intent on blaming moms because they can't fix anything, it "must" be her fault. She didn't take enough vitamins, or drink enough water, or eat the right things, I see it all the time. Michelle Obama's legacy will be buying and selling into that, and by doing so has immeasurably damaged research. Skinny people's kids have just as many issues as fat people's kids.

You'd think that if every person with any health issues stopped having kids, we wouldn't have kids with problems, but it isn't true. Most people don't know they have issues until their kids start having problems, and you have recessed traits from BOTH parents.

Just ticks me off. It's easy to blame, to compare numbers without doing ANY genetic testing and point a finger to get a grant. THEY pinch pennies and WE pay the price...
