I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

From what little I've heard, the vaccine is based on an "adenovirus", not even a coronavirus. And adenoviruses, as I've found by looking up, are DNA-based viruses, not RNA-based viruses.

I suppose it doesn't matter, as long as the selected virus creates the right string of amino acids for the immune system to react to, but I guess I'd wonder more about efficacy, not safety, given all of the questions about whether people develop long-term immunity to SARS-Cov2, seeing as how quickly antibodies fade after illness) and that the vaccine is based on an entirely unrelated virus.

What would be a real advance would be a vaccine that causes the immune system to react to the "open reading frame" portion of SARS-Cov2 virus. That is the very first portion of the virus that is "read" by the host cell; if you can prevent the "reading" you can stop the virus from being "translated" by the host cell, in which case the virus never is unpacked and therefore never even replicates. (For those of you who know computers, this seems entirely analogous to the "start of file" string that tells the computer where a file starts.)

Maybe this vaccine does that, in which case it would be fucking awesome.

Or maybe this vaccine is like the first Sputnik that did nothing but circle the earth and give the Eisenhower administration shit fits.
