In fairness, he said they weren't really mostly terrorists. But the possibility that they CAN be terrorists if they're Muslim is enough to justify enhanced interrogation.

I think most conservatives miss the days when the liberals were always the smartest ones in the room. I blame Clinton, he turned the libs into a bunch of irrational idiots somehow. Lets bring back the days when Tip O'neill and Bob Dole could fight all day on the Senate floor and have beers together immediately after. If we could all just be intellectually honest and sniff glue together we could solve all our problems.

Actually, you've got it just backwards. Clinton turned all the conservatives into irrational, foaming-at-the-mouth idiots. Boehner is drunk every single day by the time he gets off the golf course and gets to work. Not one single conservative seems to have any problem with this.

Fuck you, you cock sucking community activist piece of shit.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

I’m sorry you feel that way, Pizmo. What I hear and read every day is what makes me feel bad about what’s happening, not just what I read here. They may be a minority, but the vocal hatred and fear toward Muslims, and Islam as a religion, I find dismaying. I suppose I would be less effected if I heard it about another country; that I is mine bothers me.

If there is no problem, then why is mosque after mosque now being denied? I think we WERE a tolerant nation before, even after 9/11, despite some incidents, we didn’t have the prejudiced attitude toward Muslims or Islam, but today I see it pretty frequently. I think it’s a problem.

And an Islamaphobe-aphobe would mean I’m AFRAID of those who hate and fear Muslims and Islam. I do not. I’m angry with them and sad for our country; I understand a lot of what goes into making them that way and how vulnerable we are to this kind of thing right now, what with the economy and world-wide terrorism, but I wish it could be mitigated. It is quite possible that the extreme responses I’ve gotten to my attempts to show the other side of Islam have affected me more than they should have; admittedly it’s only a few people.

Yes, Righteous, I too noticed the wording of Raptor’s post. It would be nice if you could clarify your statement that
Quote:

It was wrong for a Lib Dem President to deny so many Americans of their rights in WW 2, but that does not change the fact that Japan did declare war on us. Just as so many radical Muslims have done so now.
The way it reads, you’re intimating that it would have been RIGHT for a Conservative Repub Prez to do it, and because the radical Muslims have “declared war” just like the Japanese, it would be right to intern them. It leaves too much open to indicate that’s what you might have meant.

And you know what’s interesting, Righteous? Take your remark and twist it just a bit...

It was Muslims readily being led "astray", which says to me that religion and the cherry picked messages within only become relevant for critical masses when it can be used as a tool to channel anger and justify taking.

could both be considered accurate. Speaks once again to how religion can be used for evil purposes.

Raptor, what you miss is that the true Muslims ARE speaking up, from America and around the world...we just don’t hear about it, because it’s not “newsworthy”. They are doing so every single day, in groups, commissions, gatherings, MOSQUES (real ones, that is), as leaders, journalists, intellectuals and plain old folk. Just because it doesn’t play on the MSM (and it would NEVER be heard on Fox!) doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. It is.

How exactly does two blocks away constitute “ground zero”, I’d like to know? Exactly how many blocks away would be acceptable? And if “ground zero” is such hallowed ground, why isn’t there a big stink about the betting parlor and strip club? Aren’t they a bit “insensitive”, too? Not to mention the fact that it’s a community center, not a mosque in any way, which we’ve gone over in detail several times. So what is the argument against a Muslim community center which includes a memorial to 9/11 being blocks away from “ground zero”?

Are you serious? One of the reasons the right liked Bush was he was supposedly a “good old boy” with whom you could have a beer, and he was NEVER the “smartest one in the room”. As for irrational idiots, you think people who’d like to go back to prohibition, get rid of the Civil Rights Act and think masturbating is adultery are the smartest ones in the room? Not to mention death panels, MILITARY death panels, calling our President a Muslim, claiming he’s a Nazi, Communist, and whatever else, many of which are contradictory, asking for investigations into the House and Senate members to weed out those who might be “Anti-American”, fighting for tax cuts for the rich which would increase the deficit by more than the stimulus and health-care bill together would while calling for “fiscal responsibility”, and on and on and on, represent SMART? I’d like some quotes from Dems—as many—which indicate the kind of “irrationality” as the above, and the other things the right has said and done, please. Not just one or two, but AS MANY.

Yes, Mike, the way he posts, that’s what you’d think he wants. In fact I think he might have said so on occasion. I don’t think he’s serious...or rather, I don’t WANT to think he’s serious, but others are...

On the point of “Tip and Bob” going out for a beer, yes, that is definitely something we have lost, to our detriment. Both sides becoming so polarized isn’t good for the country; people have to TALK to one another, whatever their differences, for anything to get better. I will be called partisan, but I saw it start during the Bush administration, when fear was utilized to polarize people into those who blindly followed and “the others”, who were branded anti-American and terrorist sympathizers. Which they are again now by the right. I saw it grow, fostered greatly by the “party of no” pulling in, attacking their own moderates, and flatly refusing to work together in any way. It’s at its worst now—which doesn’t mean it can’t get even worse—and it’s bad for everyone. The Dems are doing it as well, now, but to me that’s a pretty human response to being stymied in everything you try to do, even when you compromise, even when what you proposed was ORIGINALLY proposed by the Republicans, only now they demonize the very same things. I blame both parties, but I blame the right most.

Chris, that is closer to what I think Raptor believes:
Quote:

the possibility that they CAN be terrorists if they're Muslim is enough to justify enhanced interrogation.
We’ve done that more than a bit, from what evidence is coming out, detained and/or tortured people who had nothing whatsoever to do with 9/11 or terrorism. That’s what’s most dangerous about this mentality, to me.

Mike, I don’t think Clinton turned them all this way. It may have started back then, but I put the blame on Bush and Cheney and their ilk, the mentality of “let me do what I want; I can’t tell you about it, but I know things you don’t that make it right”, and the stoking of fear of “the other”, which has come to fruition with a Democratic President who can be made into a “real” “other” with little effort because he’s half Black and had some kind of Muslim something-or-other in his background.
