Hello,

I did not realize the situation in Oakland had devolved into 'riot.'

I did not realize that millions of dollars worth of damage had been done in Oakland.

I did not realize that the occupiers in Oakland spontaneously decided to injure police officers for no reason.

I wish I had access to your information. I am not finding it in my usual news sources.

Most of media is still doing their best not to cover it, but Americans are becoming aware of the mayhem everywhere. Try Google or You Tube, or Fox, or just about anything. Also, the list of crimes I posted earlier. It's all there. Support for OWS has gone from 60% into the 30's in the last two weeks. Soon it'll be in teens, and it'll be over. I suggest the original peaceful, but misguided protesters organize and find candidates to run for office.

Also, if you and them are mad at Wall Street and rich people, and believe crimes were committed why not take the protests to Obama and Holder in DC for not having the Justice Dept. prosecute anyone related to TARP and other Wall Street rackets? They've had 3 years and they've done nothing. That'd be a worthy protest.

Niki is a true believer. I'm very far away from her on most things, but I do respect her tenacious and relentless efforts to denounce and Palinize just about everything and everyone that I typically support and believe in. It's going to be hard for her to ever give an inch on this especially with the logo thing going on and all. Besides politically, I want this tragic spectacle to last as long as possible, as long as no more cops get hurt. Send in the scoops! Soylent Green is....what again?

Thank you, Sig. I was wondering that myself, reading down this thread, and have pretty much no desire to engage these idiots. Yes, it has turned into right-winger land lately, Rap seems to have summoned his coterie or something.

Let them spew their ugliness; if you want to engage them, waste your time. There is absolutely NOTHING, not a thing in the world, that you can say to them which will make one single iota of difference. All you will ever get back is ugly pablum they've swallowed and have some kind of fascination with spewing out all over.

I posted the facts, AS REPORTED BY TWO LOCAL STATIONS, then I heard it get all turned around on CNN and other places. I watched off and on during the afternoon and evening, and saw it for myself. I have no need to defend anything to these nonentities, they're here for only one purpose.

I will, however, offer the following--AS OF YESTERDAY:
Quote:

Poll: The More People Learn About Occupy Wall Street, The More They Like It | “As Americans learn more about Occupy Wall Street, they are becoming more supportive of the movement’s positions,” according to a new ORC International survey. The poll showed that another 15 percent of Americans have become familiar with Occupy Wall Street since an earlier poll, and the portion of supporters went up to 36 percent. Nineteen percent disagree with the protesters’ positions, while the plurality remains undecided
As of yesterday:
Quote:

We keep hearing that Dems who whisper a word of support for Occupy Wall Street risk alienating blue collar whites in key swing states — voters who tend to find outsized protest tactics culturally alienating.

But some new polling suggests that in Pennsylvania, at least, this simply isn’t happening.

Franklin and Marshall is out with a new poll gauging attitudes towards the protests. Overall, 57 percent of Pennsylvania voters say they would be very or somewhat likely to vote for a candidate who supports the movement’s goals, versus only 33 percent who say the opposite. And a plurality of 49 percent generally supports the protests, versus 37 percent who oppose it.

I called Franklin and Marshall and got a breakdown of the data among non-college-educated whites, the category polling experts view as a reliable guide to blue collar white sentiment. The breakdown:

* A majority of non-college whites, 53 percent, say they would be very or somewhat likely to support a candidate who supports the goals of the protesters, versus only 33 percent who wouldn’t be likely to do that.

* A plurality of non-college whites, 41 percent, supports the protesters, versus 39 percent who don’t. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/blue-collar-whites-
in-pennsylvania-back-occupy-wall-street/2011/11/04/gIQAbYctmM_blog.html
my previous posts about the growing popularity and that polls show people approve more of OWS than the Tea Party. One day ago:
Quote:

Some 59 percent of adults either completely agree or mostly agree with the protesters, while 31 percent mostly disagree or completely disagree; 10 percent of those surveyed didn't know or refused to answer. http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/m07cd/poll_most_americans_su
pport_occupy_wall_street/
days ago
Quote:

As Americans learn more about Occupy Wall Street, they are becoming more supportive of the movement's positions, according to a new poll from ORC International.

The survey, taken Oct. 28-31, shows more adult Americans saying they have heard of Occupy Wall Street than when the question was asked in early October. Sixty-four percent of respondents now say they've heard of the movement, compared to only 51% in the earlier poll.

The new poll also shows more Americans supporting the movement. Thirty-six percent say they agree with the overall positions of Occupy Wall Street, while 19% say they disagree.

That reflects an increase in support since early October, when 27% of those polled said they agreed with Occupy Wall Street's position.

And on and on. That rather contradicts the statement that Amercans approve of OWS less and less; I dont' know where that came from, except the partisan blinders necessary to back up unverified opinion.

Haven't got time or interest in more; got to head for a meeting, then demonstration. I never said I was in a demonstration (except here in Marin); I watched the Oakland stuff for hours on two local stations, which gave accurate reporting as far as I could tell, and heard the stories of those of our group who went over and experienced it. The Oakland strike DID turn into a riot, and I detailed how that happened and why. Anyone who wants can refer to that thread, unless they want to spew more lies (which of course they are quite free to do, and will).

I also posted (from news FILM and word of those who went over there) that the protesters were very pissed off at the damage, some went back to help clean it up, etc. I covered what happened in Oakland as clearly as I could, so I won't go back to that again.

I'd say more, but it's a waste of time and I gotta go. Essentially, just about anything our little coterie of hard-core righties say isn't worth diddly to me; I know their intent, I know how little backup they will provide, and as for the list of violence, some of it is just plain wrong, and some of it reflects that there is violence everywhere, every minute, in America today. Now I'm off to try and help my voice and the voice of the majority of Americans who are sick to death of the current situation heard, if possible.

RAPPY- You not only lack any factual basis for your sneering contempt (and pretty much anything you espouse) you also lack any sort of internal logic.

OCCUPY protesters cannot be overeducated consumerist snobs dependent on Starbucks, Apple and JCrew and at the same time "muggers, rapists, druggies". Pick one or the other, and please, introduce your ideas to each other once in while so you don't wind up saying the exact opposite things in the very same thread. Because you wind up looking like the OCCUPY peeps that Howard Stern interviewed. Incoherent. Yanno what I mean?

JONGSSTRAW- I usually see a lot of good sense in what you post, but this time - not so much. I did as you challenged- I googled occupy+ support+ post+ poll and looked in the "news" tab, and not only did I find the poll that NIKI posted about, I found two others from this past week indicating that the OCCUPY movement is way more popular than the teabaggers, and gaining.

FWIW, here is my take on the OCCUPY movement: Their hearts are in the right place, they sense not only economic helplessness but also political disenfranchisement. I believe, as they do, that you cannot have a viable democracy when the economic playing field is so drastically uneven.

And thankfully, they have got up off their couches long enough to actually DO something IRL.

However, they have a lot of education to make up. They can't formulate specific goals because they lack a lot of background knowledge, and it may take years before they are able to press forward with a plan of action. Quite honestly, economics is a hobby of mine (macroeconomics) and yet it has taken me years of on-and-off observation to figure out why we wind up in such deep economic shit, and - more importantly- what should be done about it (IMHO of course).

People say this is not like Tahrir Square or the anti-war marches and they are right. The Tahrir Square protesters had a specific goal: Get rid of Mubarek. The OCCUPY movement is broader. And maybe that's a good thing- where is Egypt now? Mubarek is gone, but the military is in his place AND is now seeking NOT to be under civilian control. Remaking society is not a simple thing.

Sorry, but your absurd movement is close to being over. I wish it could have lasted longer, really I do, but the violent anarchists, the rampaging criminals, the drunk and stoned wilding gangs of gropers, and the loud & proud screaming Jew-haters are sealing its' fate. Over 3,000 reported ows site crimes including robbery, assault, rape, drug dealing, assaults on police, and property destruction. Over 1,000 arrests. A freak show even old PT couldn't imagine! Blame the rich for all your problems and woes....how precious! It's the oldest and most pathetic cry of the drunken lawless mob. Just take and do whatever you want by force and violence, huh? Not likely. Not in America. But hey, knock yourself out trying.

Wow, why so bitter and angry, JS?

1000 arrests?

For what?

Right off the bat, I can count 700 of those for peaceful demonstration.

How you come up with the idea that the OCCUPY protesters are a bunch of violent thugs is beyond me, when the vast majority have dedicated themselves to a peaceful, consensus process.

Where the OWS movement might fail is not bc it represents violent, envious thugs but because it will be unable to develop goals and formulate a plan of action. Right now, it's all about expressing a feeling, but that is not enough to sustain a movement. OTOH I could be wrong... the women's movement and the environmental movement were also pretty diffuse, and yet they had long-lasting results.

AFA "blaming the rich"... I don't blame the rich, I blame a system where 1% can commandeer a significant portion (22%) of the wealth. It's not that this is unfair, but that it is unhealthy for the economy and for democracy. And I'm sure you want a vibrant democracy and a prosperous economy too, just like everyone else, no?

I happen to know Russian expats, real ones (not phony accent ones) and they left Russia because it had devolved into crony capitalism.

As for the 1%-er? Eh, another idiot. I'm too busy to get into exactly how right now, but let's just say I'm not impressed.

But I find it kind of pathetic that you can't come up with your own arguments (apparently they get you into too much trouble?) so you have to post vids instead, just like Wulfie.

The expat Soviet wasn't 'faking' any accent. The CEO ? He was telling the truth, more than you want to know.

This childish denial of reality and dismissal , out of hand, of what either of them had to say...More pathetic than normal.

Kind of hard to argue in settings like that. Let someone sit down with that CEO or ex-soviet one on one and see what happens.

Eh, Sig? Waste of time; reality escapes them, and JS is waaaaay out there; why even try?

Everything you said is right, however, and it's what we're working on. This weekend we started a pre-demonstration meeting of the various committees, and we're a long, long way from what you spoke of, but it's out there. We're lucky to have some people with VERY special skills, which is heartening...I'm kinda not going to be able to go into details on some things from here on out, so I can't get more specific. I was hoping this would happen (the meetings; the folks with skills were a lovely surprise). We need to work on organization, communication and coordination, and this gives us two hours each week to meet as a group, which will improve things.

Too much to go into, but I do thoroughly enjoy reading JS and Raptor more than I used to. They are SO very far off the mark, it makes me giggle. Given I'm now "living" OWS, I find their idiocy even less upsetting than when I first got here. They haven't the vaguest idea in the world what they're talking about, so it's funny to read them ranting and raving and predicting and "knowing" it all.

By the way, we'll be setting up an encampment of our own eventually...looks like the library lawn at this point. Gonna be a COLD, wet Winter, looks like! Was a giggle to discover Occupy WOODSIDE has started up, what mind boggler. Woodside's probably got equal amounts 1% and 99%...gotta be amusing to watch. Walnut Creek has REALLY mobilized, and apparently Grass Valley has shocked everyone by mobilizing in strength! Neat.

At any rate, what you wrote is right on. Bearing in mind that the movement is six weeks old, we're a LONG way from where we want to be, but it's a start.

Today was "Move Your Money" day (I THINK among all the Occupy groups, not just us), and boy, oh boy, did we hit a nerve!!! Biggest crowd in a couple of weeks, and literally two out of every three cars that passed us waved, honked, woo-wooed, gave us the thumbs' up. Felt good.

I realize this may go nowhere, believe me. To me, it's the ONLY thing I can think of to do in the middle of the whole, awful mess this country is in, so it's worth doing. We can only hope it does some good, and we're all so sick to death of this situation, we're glad to find something that MIGHT do something good. It's the first time since Bush was elected that I've felt even SLIGHTLY hopeful. I'll take it and see where it goes. We've got a ton to do, and a ton to learn, and more along the way.

So rave on, you "Leon's", keep giving me the giggles. I can use 'em...I'm pooped already!
