It's so funny, coming from Geezer.

Now where did I say that?

Are we going on what people have actually SAID now? You shift the goalposts so often it's hard to keep up with what rules you're playing by from one moment to the next.

Huh. Because this response indicates your willingness to invent positions and to assign them to people, regardless of what they've actually SAID:

Quote:

You have no doubt that the corrupt government is complicit in conspiring with Exxon to cover up the Arkansas oil spill, yet this is the same government you believe would not be involved in gunwalking in the Fast and Furious fiasco, would not use universal NICS checks to create an illegal universal firearms registry, and will handle the Affordable Care Act responsibly while dealing with 'Big Pharma" the AMA, and the health insurance companies.

Can you please show us where Niki, Signy, I, Kiki, or anyone else here has said these things?

Or, to put it in words you actually SAID:

"I'd be interested in a cite for this claim."

So Geezer, when asked for cites for his claims, runs away or changes the subject.

No. Just had other stuff to do.

So to start, here's a whole thread of the usual suspects telling us how gunwalking wasn't all that bad.

And speaking or running away, you owe me a response here:

SIGNYM

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

As noted above, I figure Exxon should pay for cleanup and remediation, and a hefty fine for failure to properly maintain thair pipeline. Looks like you let your preconceptions blind you to what I actually say, yet again.
GEEZER- my post wasn't entirely in response to you. Some of it was just new information being brought to the table. Sorry if that offends you.

AFA the MSM- I HAVE said several things about it already. And I STILL think that the flight restrictions were a very useful information-control tool for Exxon. They had "at least one"... ie one... helicopter working the scene. I'm sure that the air traffice could have been handled, it really wasn't necessary. AFA cleaning up... it's like the Macondo blowout- there is NO real cleaning up afterwards. Heavy crude is, well... heavy. It sinks in water. Putting booms on the surface are mostly show. Around the Macondao blowout, it was the seafloor that bore the brunt of the spill, and the coral and seagrass are still dead.

In this case, you can remove the contaminated soil, but whatever oil sank into the grounwater and nearby lake is less visible but still there.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Well, apparently Geezer is more trusting than the Governor of Alabama. Geezer is convinced "the FAA/Exxon 'no-fly zone' story is conspiracy fantasy at its best." Governor McDaniel, on the other hand

McDaniel says he spent most of the day yesterday trying to figure out why the no-fly zone was created. http://www.katv.com/story/21889151/mcdaniel-there-is-oil-in-lake-conwa

Apparently the Governor can't figure out why they needed a no-fly zone; obviously he doesn't know as much as Geezer. Given the obvious and myriad accounts of publicity being suppressed and information held back--then the WRONG information given out--I find it most amusing that Geezer is convinced it could only be a "conspiracy theory" that Exxon would get a no-fly zone to keep aerial photos from being taken. Like BP did in the Gulf spill, and as has happened so many other times...

That was the point of this thread, and I maintain that it was done for the specific purpose of trying to keep the public from knowing the extent of the spill, and from seeing photos of an entire neighborhood drenched in oil which couldn't avoid causing a visceral response. It didn't work; IT NEVER DOES, stuff always gets out, and we don't know WHY the no-fly zone was cancelled, whether because it didn't work, because people raised a fuss, or whatever, but it's unquestionably true that oil companies TRY to minimize the publicity every single time, and that this one made concerted effort to keep the press at bay. Oil companies are almost invariably found to have under-estimated, lied, tried to suppress the press, etc. Not nearly as wild a conspiracy theory as many proposed here.

"McDaniel acknowledges the spill is a PR disaster for Exxon Mobile". Anyone who thinks companies don't do everything possible to try and minimize PR disasters is just being silly. Anyone who's lived through past oil-spill disasters in this country and hasn't learned that our government is, if not complicit, definitely accepting of these efforts is blind, deaf and dumb.

After all the time I've been reading his posts, I can't believe Geezer is any of those. I think he's just not willing to admit he was wrong.

ETA: The link which Geezer claims shows "the usual suspects telling us how gunwalking wasn't all that bad" confuses me. I can't find anywhere in it where anyone said it "wasn't all that bad"; what I see is people saying it was bad, stupid, idiotic...but not a deliberate government conspiracy to let criminals get away with guns. I believe the opinions expressed were well summed up by "Petty stupid shit between people being people gets blown up into big deal politics, conspiracy theories, etc."
