I cannot believe that you actually think people WANT it to happen. There's a huge difference between trying to prepare for the worst and wanting the worst to happen. What 'extreme preps' are you referring to? Extra food? Extra medicines? Extra water? Extra ammo? Extra firewood? Extra oil for the lamps? I have lived through hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and blizzards, and the moderate amount of extra preps we had made the difference between us surviving and not. YOU may consider these steps "extreme", but to me they help insure that our family has a decent shot at surviving what's coming, be it civil unrest, natural disaster, or terrorist attack.
