With unusual clarity, concreteness, and seriousness, Leopold sets out his vision of how AI is going to transform civilization over the next 5-10 years. Leopold foresaw the current AI boom, before most of us did, and apparently made a lot of money as a result. I don’t know how his latest predictions will look from the standpoint of 2030. In any case, though, it’s very hard for me to imagine anyone in the US national security establishment reading Leopold’s document without crapping their pants. Is that enough to convince you to read it? Quote:The Dark Ages were not entirely dark. Advances in agriculture and building technology increased Medieval wealth and led to a wave of cathedral construction in Europe. However, it was a time of profound inequality. Elites captured virtually all economic gains. In Britain, as Canterbury Cathedral soared upward, peasants had no net increase in wealth between 1100 and 1300. Life expectancy hovered around 25 years. Chronic malnutrition was rampant. “We’ve been struggling to share prosperity for a long time,” says MIT Professor Simon Johnson. “Every cathedral that your parents dragged you to see in Europe is a symbol of despair and expropriation, made possible by higher productivity.” At a glance, this might not seem relevant to life in 2023. But Johnson and his MIT colleague Daron Acemoglu, both economists, think it is. Technology drives economic progress. As innovations take hold, one perpetual question is: Who benefits? This applies, the scholars believe, to automation and artificial intelligence, which is the focus of a new book by Acemoglu and Johnson, “Power and Progress: Our 1000-Year Struggle Over Technology and Prosperity,” published this week by PublicAffairs. In it, they examine who reaped the rewards from past innovations and who may gain from AI today, economically and politically. “The book is about the choices we make with technology,” Johnson says. “That’s a very MIT type of theme. But a lot of people feel technology just descends on you, and you have to live with it.” AI could develop as a beneficial force, Johnson says. However, he adds, “Many algorithms are being designed to try to replace humans as much as possible. We think that’s entirely wrong. The way we make progress with technology is by making machines useful to people, not displacing them. In the past we have had automation, but with new tasks for people to do and sufficient countervailing power in society.” Today, AI is a tool of social control for some governments that also creates riches for a small number of people, according to Acemoglu and Johnson. “The current path of AI is neither good for the economy nor for democracy, and these two problems, unfortunately, reinforce each other,” they write.

What distinguishes them is that in real world videos, there's a lot of random variation... Well... You think you can, anyhow. Some of the stuff that people on YouTube are coming out with is pretty damn impressive. The government didn't just let that type of technology out into the wild if they didn't have something far superior to work with themselves. I think we're already beyond the point where it would be foolish to believe that we can decipher what is real and what isn't when it comes to videos and even audio files now.

Victoria's Secret and other companies decided to put fat women and trannies in their fashion shows. By the time they decide they want to stop losing money and put beautiful women in their products again, they're not even going to have to pay real women to wear them anymore. I'll bet before 2035 we see the first completely virtual AI Victoria's Secret fashion show. It's way better for the bottom line if they have models that never age and they don't have to pay supermodels millions of dollars a year to wear their lingerie anymore. They can just pay super-nerds pennies on the dollar to put the whole production together on their computers while sitting at home.

The humiliation by AI is subtler but just as profound: we have demonstrated that for intellectual activities we considered deeply human, we are not needed; these can be automated on a statistical basis, the “idle talk”, to use Heidegger’s term, literally gets by without us and sounds reasonable, witty, superficial and sympathetic – and only then do we truly understand that it has always been like this: most of the time, we communicate on autopilot. Since I’ve been using the large language model, I can actually perceive it: I’m at a social event, making small talk, and suddenly, sensitised by GPT, I feel on my tongue how one word calls up the next, how one sentence leads to another, and I realise, it’s not me speaking, not me as an autonomous individual, it’s the conversation itself that is happening. Quote:Originally posted by 6ixStringJack: Don't worry about it. You won't notice a change in your life at all, Second. You have no autonomy and you completely lack the resources for critical thinking. You're little more than an inert sponge just sitting there and waiting for your new programming so you can suck it all up like water and dribble it out all over these boards. It's why you basically disappeared for 2 or 3 days when the Media didn't know what the fuck to do or say. You were literally empty-headed during that time, because you've replaced your subconscious voice with the voices of the Legacy Media and the Narrative. And any time you do talk, all you've done is repeat the same 3 or 4 pre-programmed things, dozens of times every single day for 8 years straight. You are barely a step above A.I. yourself, with the only qualification putting you higher on the food chain being that you have a skin sack made up of around 70% water and electrical impulses. You're what those in the industry call wetware. You are just a highly-programmable computer trapped inside of a flesh body that we should probably assume was a human being at one point, although nobody left here at FireFlyFans.net would ever be able to provide proof of that having ever been the case. Least of all you. -------------------------------------------------- Trump will be fine. He will also be your next President.
Quote:The first paragraph you've shared is quite critical and derogatory towards someone or something, suggesting they lack autonomy and critical thinking skills, and are essentially a passive entity absorbing and regurgitating information without independent thought. It's also accusing this entity of being heavily influenced by mainstream media narratives and having a limited repertoire of responses. The language used is quite harsh and dismissive. The second paragraph is a stark contrast, abruptly shifting to a statement about Donald Trump's well-being and future presidency. It's a sudden change in topic and tone from the preceding paragraph, offering a confident assertion without any explanation or context. Overall, the first paragraph appears to criticize the perceived limitations or flaws of an entity, possibly an automated system or even a person, in a harsh and disdainful manner. The abrupt shift to the statement about Trump feels disconnected from the preceding critique and lacks supporting context or rationale.
