Figured I should take some time to show pictures of the products, since you might have no idea at all what I'm talking about here, and I'm never going to be showing pictures outside of my house online, let alone here with Ted and Wetware.

Here's the edger blocks I was going to use.

Fortunately returning the last 100 of them were easy since I never picked them up after getting the sale price, but I have another 165 of them I'll need to load up in my car to take back. At 10lbs a piece, I'm going to be doing that in 3 trips in the new car. I don't feel like beating on this car like I did with the old one.

You could probably imagine that even at 10lbs each what a nightmare that would be when the moles got around to destroying it.

Here's the plastic coil I'm NOT going to buy:

I'm hoping to find a better solution altogether, but if I do use something like this it will not be any of the products at Menard's.

The price on this stuff is insane though. At $23 for 40 feet it doesn't even save me half the cost of the pavers. Add to that you need to buy packs of 20 stakes for $16 and you're supposed to use one every 4 feet, that's a lot of money. And because of the moles I'd probably be putting that at every 2 feet at most, if not one spike every foot.

Even returning the leveling sand and the super-expensive finishing sand along with all those bricks, this shitty plastic solution, at least when not on sale at Menard's, would ultimately end up being about 80% of the edger block price, which is just crazy.

S'why I didn't do too much else when I got in. I got the dishes done and my laundry from a week ago or so put away and that was it.

Oh, when I have to do things like that I make sure to stop every so often and take a breather.

No luck at mah jong. Couldn't even break 1,000points. I finished the morning with 920points enough to get the booby prize which is my $2 back

And the elevators are working today. I would do more inside chores like get some recycling out but I am still tired after yesterday.

Glad to hear the elevators are working again at least, Brenda.

Having the elevators back is good. I just hope they stay working. I've got some small throws that I keep on the chair I was given and I want to wash them tomorrow.

Both, actually.

The plan is to use the edging to build up dirt as I has I can get away with along side of the foundation of the house and the garage slab and still have room for river rock without it touching the siding.

But I also want to extend this edge from the corner of the back of my house to the corner of the back of my garage along the sand pit too. There used to be a beat up concrete divider between the two of them, but I busted that all out with a sledgehammer a few years back when I pulled up all the broken pavers.

I'd have been working on it this week after all that work on the yard last week, but it's just been miserable around here this summer. It's 82 for the high today, but it feels like it's 95 degrees with all the humidity out there right now, with scattered thunderstorms the last 3 days as well as a few big ones possible today and the next two or 3 days. It will be 88 tomorrow, and I have no doubt that the Real Feel is going to be over 100 degrees. The storms just aren't bringing us any relief from the heat this summer. This is the worst summer I remember around here for at least a decade.

Worst part is, I've already got to mow the lawn again and it's only been 4 or 5 days max. I don't recall a summer this hot ever where it wasn't a prolonged drought. Good for the crops, but terrible if you were planning on spending most of the summer working outside. 5 or 10 years ago I could have worked outside all day in this bullshit, but I'm not really good for more than an hour or two of it right now and with how filthy the job is, it's just not worth even spending any time out there until it cools off or at least until the humidity gets back down to reasonable levels.

I'm amazed that my tiny 5k BTU A/C unit my buddy gave me is keeping my house comfortable in all of this. It has been on 24/7 for over a month now.

Oh, that sounds brutal.

We've been near 90 for so long, I can't remember when it started. It's been mostly dry, but even so it's too hot for me. And some days have been sticky, so I've been mostly sheltering from the heat and working indoors on estate management.

I don't know what was wrong with me today. I was so tired it was all I could do to take the dog out for a very short walk, do some dishes and then I sacked out on the couch. I woke up a couple of times, got as far as "I really should get up" and then fell asleep again.

Kinda PISSED at my doctors, collectively. I have this condition that everyone agrees is serious, but nobody is taking it seriously. I was taken off most of my immune modifying drugs to start treatment with Cellcept (it's generically called by a very long name, "Cellcept" is so much easier) but my legs swelled up and my Dr was so horrified she had me stop the med, and ordered blood and urine tests for kidney function. Kidneys were actually really good, considering, and that was the last I heard.

So, for more than a week I haven't been treated for GPA (the fatal disorder) or for Sjogrens/ lupus or for psoriasis. I'm glad my asthma isn't managed by this doctor! (It's common, I've been told, that once you develop one autoimmune disorder you'll develop another one. I wonder if that applies to LADA too.)

I feel like a hot potato that the specialists keep tossing between them. There's one doctor that I like very much, my ENT surgeon, but she's on vacation now.

Anyway, if Dr Rheum doesn't step up I'm going to see if this other one is taking new patients. If so, I'm going to switch.

Yeah. I don't do well in the humidity anymore. Straight 90 degrees with low humidity would be fine for me still, but I feel like I'm swimming in the air when it's like this. I just opened the front door to get the mail about a half hour ago at 11PM and it felt like it was about 30 degrees hotter out there even though it's in the high 70's outside right now and my thermostat on the 2nd floor reads 72.

Probably doesn't make you feel much better, but that's been 80% of the summer days for me so far this year.

It may apply to LADA. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop and the Doctors to tell me I've got MS like my mom too. Who knows. I don't want to dwell on it.

Switch if you can. Medical care has turned to crap after Covid in general, but my new Dr. Endo is 10 times better than the old one.

Spent the last few days on family trust issues, and communicating with my doctor thru gritted teeth, but trying not to sound like it

Turns out that since the rheumatologist that I want and the one I have work essentially in the same practice, and he's not taking new patients bc he's at the max. He MIGHT take me on, but my current rheum would have to approve it first, and if he didn't approve I'd be stuck with a Dr who didn't like or trust me. Hence, the re- approach with my current Dr.

Boy... Paperwork and financials becomes a major job when you don't keep up with it every week. Even when you spend as little as I do. All of these rebates and returns are making some of it pretty tricky since I didn't leave myself any notes either. Slowly reconciling everything though.

Thought I'd get that done before cleaning up and running errands, but I may have to put it all off until later if I'm going to make it before places start closing.

Doing some house cleanup in between. My aunt is coming over this weekend and my old man might drop by on his way back from an east coast vacation too. There looks to be one reasonable temp day where I can mow the lawn before they get here too, so everything should look great by Saturday/Sunday.

Forecast in 2 weeks looks pretty nice. I might finally be able to get back to working outside soonish. Fingers crossed.

The high is only 81 today and it's still freakin miserable outside. On and off thunderstorms here for days just keeping that humidity right at 99% 24/7. It's just gross.

The days we were supposed to get in the 70's this week into next? Gone.

Highs of 85 and 88 this weekend, with more thunderstorms on the way and endless humidity.

At least my glasses aren't fogging up when I go up into the attic like they did a few days earlier this week.

But last night, even after it dropped down into the 70s, my glasses were fogging up outside while I had a cigarette. I've never seen anything like it before.

I wanted to mow the lawn again today, but I refuse.

Next Tuesday now it's supposed to start cooling off with a drop in the humidity. We'll see how that goes. I'm not mowing next week either if it doesn't.

If I wanted this weather I would have moved down to the Bayou and lived with the crocodiles.

This summer is the worst.

I'm not going to get into details about what I did here, but I just finally came through on a promise I made to quite a few people nearly a decade ago and I can't even explain how cathartic that feels. It's like a weight I didn't even know that I had on my shoulders this entire time has been lifted.

Remember that WheezyWaiter video I posted about Perfection being the enemy of Good and all of that?

He wasn't lying.

If I spent every day of the rest of my life perfecting this, it would if just died along with me one day. Now I've left it in the hands of many capable people who can build upon it as they see fit.

My job is done. I can finally move on.

Color me mellow....

Thanks Brenda.

Yeah... It was something that was never going to get finished by me, even if I had all the time in the world to do it. But I like maintaining complete control over something I've worked so hard on and put so many years into without any monetary compensation for the work, and even though I knew I could never finish it alone I wouldn't budge on it and I kept it all to myself.

I wish I'd given that control up a long time ago, but at least I finally did. The end result isn't going to be my own vision anymore. Hell... there may never even be an "end result" even long after I'm gone. But a part of me will always be with it, no matter what form it ultimately takes...

And that's good enough.

Nothing wrong with wanting to leave something behind to say you were here.

That's basically what my book is.

Laundry done and walk in. Didn't pick up kettle. I will on Monday. Just didn't feel like it.

Now just waiting on phone meeting. Still got 15 minutes to go.

It's about 84F today and it feels like. No breeze around where I am.

Couple of small things to do around here then on to some book work. Just hope I don't mess up what I got to do.

Well, now I'm curious about what you completed, SIX. My guess is a piece of software.

Am I warm??

Whatever it is, I'm happy that you've gotten to a suitable end!

Still sheltering from the heat here. The promised cooldowns (from 90+ to 85) haven't been enough to allow me to work outdoors.

That, plus I really don't have the motivation to do anything physical, with my creaky aching (untreated) joints and the fact that I wake up every two gorram hours bc my (untreated) nose and nasopharynx are stuffed and dripping goo down my throat.

I have portaled my rheumatologist three times now, and not gotten a response. Yes, I'm sure there are other patients far sicker than me. But still...

You're pretty warm.

It's software related. More specifically along the lines of the preservation of history, and reams and reams of documentation and all sorts of media that comes along with it. And then documenting every aspect of that so double-work isn't done, and so people know what still needs to be done or if something they found improves upon something that currently exists as part of it.

I've had input on software over the years, but outside of some minor coding it was never my forte. I'd really only dabble in that part of it when the bigger brains were too busy or otherwise unavailable, and only in extreme cases where something needed to be done immediately and couldn't wait until help was available. I'm sure something like ChatGPT would have saved us a lot of time if it were available to us 20 years ago.

I wouldn't necessarily call it an "end", even for me. I'm sure at some point I'll come back to it in some capacity or another. I just won't be in control of it and the direction that it takes anymore. I just wish I had done that a lot sooner while there were a lot more people around that were willing to work on it and had the free time to do so. A lot of people have walked away over the years, probably in part because they figured that anything they'd have done in my absence wasn't going to be part of the greater whole since I wouldn't share the core of it, and any time I walked away nobody ever knew if I was going to come back.

My hope is now that the core is being released to everyone that it will encourage new and younger people to take it on and it will encourage some of those old dogs who walked away to come back to it and give it whatever free time they can give it in their own busy adult lives. Though I've never met any of these people in person, I've known some of them for almost 20 years. Overall, it's a really great group of people. It was a project I started myself in my late teens and it never would have gotten as far as it has without the help of more than 150 people from all corners of the world.

Hey BRENDA, I'm nosy. I know most of my neighbors by name, and more... if they care to share.

Just wondering ... how many people on your floor? Do you know anything about them?
If it were me I'd bake a batch of cookies and introduce myself. So, dish... anything interesting?

One thing that's been on my list for a while now is to give the dog a bath and clip her nails. Especially clip her nails. I usually clip them each bath, but I need hubby's help to hold a squirmy dog still, and he was busy so her nails have gotten quite long.

Anyway, mission accomplished!

Yeah. Already in the process of handing things off in a responsible manner and making sure that the documentation is understood. It wasn't simply just a matter of dumping everything and running, as much as I'd love it if it were. This will take a while to make sure everyone's on the same page.

I'm even making a few tweaks here and there while I'm doing it. I haven't actually put any effort into this at all for over 5 years when I had to drop everything I was doing and save my house (I don't know if you even remember that... I barely do thank god).

Kind of fun tinkering with it again, TBH... but I know how deep I can engross myself into the work and I don't want to go down that particular rabbit hole again, so I just need to let it go.

It will be weird knowing that further input from me once its out of my hands completely would need to go through somebody else's vetting process in the future and be submitted in whatever way they handle that stuff. Otherwise it's liable to just be changes made on my own end that don't make it into somebody else's core. It's plenty of work just doing the work, let alone putting it together to make submissions in whatever way they would want it presented.

I'm proud of all the work that I've done, as well as everyone else who was involved though. It will be nice not having all of that swimming around in the back of my mind anymore.
