With 24 Gold and 14 Platinum records and over 30 years of playing together, isn't it a joke that Rush, the 3 man Canadian band has not been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Please feel free to comment your theories on why this travesty has been allowed to occur.

Because Rush are not in the least interested in belonging to the community of musicians selling pop tunes formulated to dull the masses in favor of promoting conspicuous consumption and general servitude to the insanely wealthy few who, as a group, work to control our aspirations and desires. Bluntly put, Rush prefer not to be slaves to corporate servitude. They're quite happy, as Geddy Lee has said, to be the world's number 1 cult band. The R&R Hall of Fame has no purpose rewarding musicians who do not serve the corporate agenda. Rush write and perform tunes that ask people be willing and able to thing critically for themselves. The R&R Hall of Fame has no room for such anti-establishment thinking.

Doing it backwards. Walking up the downslide.

They are in the Canadian Hall of Fame, both rock and roll and songwriting. There are several bands in the U.K. Hall of Fame or Canadian Hall of Fame who are not in "THE" Hall of Fame. Can't say just why that is.

Facts are stubborn things.

As a Govt official here in sunny NE Ohio I believe I can speak for the entire City of Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and say on the question of why Rush is not in the Hall of Fame...we really hate Canadians.

Canadians have this whole 'look at us, we're our own country and have health care and Ice Road Truckers and our own bacon'. Please, Canada is what a few million folks, some reindeer, and some wannabe Frenchies. Well you can take your Canadian rock music, Pam Anderson, Cirque du Soleil, and Standard Time Zones and shove them up your...

I note for the record that the USA elects to exercise its option to retain Pam Anderson's breasts and actresses Jewel Staite, Kristen Kreuk, and Elisha Cuthbert.

DREAMTROVE

I was going to post but Lili beat me to it. American institutions are hesitant to admit people who don't have a profound american influence. It's like Journey had a profound US influence in a way that Rhea's Obsession did not, which does not mean that they're a better band, it means American organizations are less likely to recognize them.

That said, I don't know much about the rock and roll hall of fame. I have a lot of various halls of fame near where I live and they are pretty much institutions of self aggrandizement and I generally ignore them.

There's an issue to this sort of thing that I think a lot of people miss: when someone gives a new talent like Taylor Swift an award, they're not awarding her, they're awarding themselves, by saying you're good enough to be part of us, ergo, we're something special, ergo, you're not, until we say so. Strangely, you make music, and we don't, and people seem to like your music, so maybe, just maybe, we're hijacking your popularity.

Such institutions, once entrenched, can be used as great advertising tools, handing out laurels to their own signed artists of their own parent company or some paid advertiser's parent company, thus awards for Justin Timberlake or whomever who may or may not have written anything, no offense to Justin, I was just using him as an example of creation star.

IOW, I take this stuff with a grain of salt.

America loves a winner!

RUSH gets far less credit than they deserve.

Ya beat me to it. I was trying to think of the proper joke, and there it is.

Beyond that, maybe it's anti-Canadian bias.

Hahahaha! Very funny! Cleveland is the city that opened the door for Rush back in the 70's.

Maybe you should get out and meet the people you are supposed to represent?

That may be primarily true, but bear in mind that Bon Jovi is in the U.K. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and hasn't been inducted in the U.S. yet. They've had some phenomenal success overseas, but I don't think many Americans haven't at least heard of them. They are in the Songwriters Hall of Fame, but no one would know that who hadn't looked it up.
