It's fucking RAINING outside!! I mean real rain, not just a sprinkle! Jim and I had to scramble to get the plastic tarp back up on the Outback before my bed got wet. Jezus Criste, it's four days from JULY, for heaven's sake!!! I can't believe this...I don't think it's happened in my lifetime. Sure, we have occasionally (rarely) had some sprinkles in June, but never July and never REAL rain like this!

My mind is approriately boggled. Mind you, I love it (once I got the Outback safe, and sad that by helping me, Jim didn't get my motorcycle covered in time...too late, too late). It's a treat I've never had before. bviously all of you who live in "green states" wouldn't find it surprising, but for us Californians, whose hills have long since turned brown and who expected no rain again until, at the very least, September, this is truly weird.

Weird weather everywhere. I'm NOT getting into global warming or climate change, I'm just noting it. Massive floods in places they usually don't get floods, a while back tornadoes where they don't usually get tornadoes, and on and on. Really strange.

But for us, really REALLY strange!

Oh for heaven's sake, this is NOT a doom-and-gloom post. I'm just making note of something which has never happened in my lifetime and how weird it is. I dunno where you live, but here, Summers are pretty cool because of the fog--when it rolls out, we roast until it comes back in. But never has it rained, really rained, at this time of year. Your snark is totally misplaced. Thank you for your irrelevancy.

So. It has never rained in the summer where you live? Have you called the authorities? Alerted the media?

Utah got five inches of rain in May. There were only two days I can recall when it didn't rain that month. I know I've said it before, but for us that's freaky.

We still have three feet of snow up in the mountains... almost July. It's 93 degrees outside right now. Three feet of snow. o.0

I hear, high up in the Rocky Mountains, they actually have snow all year round. People actually ski during the summer. Strange but true.

However. Rain. In the summer.

Time to panic.

Or give money to Al Gore.

Or both.

Whateves.

Not panicking, but Niki is right, it's weird. DT has been saying in emails that he's been getting weird weather too. The whole past year has kinda just been bizarre.

I'm sure places in the Rockies have more snow than us right now, they were hit with the same weird weather patterns. We had about ten feet of snow, which is why there's still some around. But, I'm sorry, three feet of snow when it's 90 degrees not five miles away and almost July. You have to admit that's strange.

Sky, I don't know why you have so much invested in snarking, but it's sure ridiculous. Nobody's panicking, we're just noting something strange. Why you seem intent on dissing our mere noting of weird weather is inexplicable, but obviously you do. That's your problem, nobody else's, and it IS irelevant. So is bringing Al Gore into it, given I said clearly I'm not talking about global warming, just an unusual occurrence. Go play with Raptor and his buddies, you seem to have the same mentality.

Byte, obviously he won't admit it, he's got something invested in denying that weird weather can even happen, apparentlty.

Its not weird, is the point.

Getting rain in the summer is usually a GOOD thing. Water for flowers, crops etc.

And snow in the Rockies? My father and his father always went up there to ski in the summer. Not weird.

Its only those who are invested in believing in Global Warming (or is it Global Climate Change...) that tend to have a freakout when it rains... or snows... or is warm.. or is cold... or mild...

Utah isn't the Rockies, it's basin and range. Know your geography and geology. We're nowhere near as high up as the Rockies, and we're more of a desert to boot.

Also: have you ever heard me talk about Global Warming or Climate Change since you got here? If you had, maybe you'da noticed I take the conspiracy theorist side of things.

You're the one who's making this thread all awkward, AND you're attacking without knowing who you're talking to.

See to that.

Ignoring global warming, given it's NOT the topic and I didn't even bring it up, nor intended to...NO, IT DOES NOT RAIN IN THE BAY AREA IN SUMMER. It is raining FAR more than usual, since usually it never rains at all in Summer. You obviously missed where I stated that before; that this is the first time in my life (that being over sixty years) that it has ever, EVER rained like this in Summer in the Bay Area. Rarely we get a sprinkle in June, but nothing like this (and it's still raining as I write this!).

I also didn't say it was any kind of "horror", idiot. I LOVE RAIN and I'm enjoying it thoroughly, it's just a very weird event and I thought others (as Byte has) might chime in with what's happening where they are.

I disagree that it's not a real world event. This is the real world and it's an event. It's not a news story outside California, of course, but it has just as much right here as LOTS of the stupid things people post. It's not an IMPORTANT event, but it is real, this is the world, and it's an event.

Enough; you're playing assinine games, screw you. You're new, but Hero's remarks are predictable...I assume you want to be viewed the same way we view him and Raptor and their ilk. Congratulations, you're well on your way.

p.s. Speaking of which, I can hear the news coming from Jim's room, and it's a BIG story, on numerous local news channels (given he's a channel surfer). Around here, it IS news.

I think I'll go enjoy it, and find much more interesting things to do than sit here reading your idiocy.

Im curious about your venom. In a single post, you've called me an "idiot", and that my views are "idiocy".

I disagree with you that rain, in the summer, is a cause for alarm. But you are adamant that it is. Ok. Thats interesting.

But I don't see how insulting me for disagreeing with you on summer rain, is worth peoples attention or time.

Sigh...last time, so help me gawd. I've just been more forthright than you. Anyone has only to read your posts to this point to see you did nothing but snark at me. Again: I never, never said it was cause for alarm, a fact you are deliberately ignoring repeatedly.

You're absolutely right; neither of these two threads deserve the attention they're getting. Ohhhh, wait a minute...I put them both up this morning. Is that it? Are you dogging my posts just to be nasty and to keep them from being discussed? I can't think of any other reason for your deliberate put-downs in both threads, and claiming you merely disagreed with me is bullshit. You obviously have an agenda, and I wonder again if you're not a sickpuppy. Either way; enjoy, you're not worth any further attention and I'm really outta here now.

Really? *ONLY* those people freak out?

So are you hereby promising to NEVER post one of those idiotic "It's a blizzard! Guess this disproves global warming!" posts during the winter months?

By the way, only those who are heavily invested in "Global Warming" capitalize it. Normal people just call it climate change, and only idiots don't believe that the climate doesn't change.

If someone wants to start a post about rain then they can, one can choose whether to participate in it or not. I've seen some pretty lamo posts put up by people who complain about this post being unnecessary. If Niki wants to talk about rain then she can, it is happening currently and it seems to be an event for her. We had a rainy day here too, very dark and dreary on my way to work this morning.

Yeah, it is a little mockable. But that's Utah for you, we don't have any idea what to do with "too much water" where too much water is like a quarter of what most of you are used to. It's kinda like when London shut down in December for two freaking inches of snow.

Around here it goes something like: "What's going on?" "The creek is behaving odd! There's water were it shouldn't be!" "It's the apocalypse!" "What are sandbags?"

People have been going on picnics by the flood waters and falling in. We're... Not too bright.

There are those here who aren't very bright either, Byte. They do things like trying to raft the Los Angeles Aqueduct in times of heavy rain. Jim calls it "evolution in action".

Actually, Sky, I realized something. I don't think you've been here long enough to see some of the more stupid threads begun, like Kane's vendetta against Olbermann and entire threads about sicpuppies. Which is kind of nice, since there haven't BEEN many like that recently, now that I look. I'm actually happy that this thread made me glance at the list and realize that.

So let's just say I was running on past experience, plus it being an "event" here yet something that means nothing to those of you in green states who are used to rain in the Summer. The news stations here never stopped talking about it, right along with other REAL real world events. It ended up raining all day, and everywhere I went doing my errands people were talking about how weird it was and shaking their heads. That's all.

Now back to our regularly-scheduled programming...

Sounds like, overall, you really enjoyed it, Niki.
I grew up in Mendocino County-- we used to joke that it started to rain in September and didn't quit 'till April, so everybody came in outta the woods and put their feet up on the wood stove till it was over. 'Course it wasn't that bad, really, but the obvious corollary is that it DIDN'T rain from April to September.

Does it ever SNOW there in Marin? Used to, maybe every 4 or 5 years in Ukiah, when I lived there, and I only remember once when it actually stayed on the ground for more than a few hours.
