PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Stating for the record that it's been years since I got any new shoes, I do not buy $5 frapacinos at Starbucks, and that even under my state's (gasp!) socialized discount health care, my co-pay is ten dollars.

Also, I love Jon Stewart.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

I loves me some J-Stew.

PET PEEVE ALERT:
Why oh why do so many people in the media seem to assume that we are all out indulging in Starbucks or other over-priced coffees on a daily basis? Is it because the shops seem to be as ubiquitous (particularly in media centers) as gas stations once were?

It's often suggested that if we want to put a little money aside we could consider giving up one of those frappucinos (or whatever) per day and stash the cash in the cookie jar.

Also assumed is that we're buying shoes all the time. I admit to having newer slippers (not shoes) this year after the tops and bottoms of the old ones separated and there was no way to glue or stitch them back together.

How flipping self-centered to think their way of saving money applies to everybody.

What a relief it has been to be too old to worry about getting preggers.

Meh, Starbucks can kiss my ass, they're still being complete jerks to their employees, which ironically allowed the IWW to set and sink the crowbar of unionism up against the rapacious bastards.

We got a thing around here called "Buck for the Baristas", where we'll stop in, refuse to buy any coffee and toss a dollar into the tip jar, both in efforts to help support them on the piss-poor wages they're paid and as a studied insult to Starbucks by hinting that folks working for them are so underpaid they need charity to survive.

So if you do hit up a Starbucks, flash your red card to let em know where you stand, ehe?

LOL, Frem. I actually don't go anywhere near any of the local Starbucks(es)& have no red card, black flag, bloody shirt or any of it. I've had baristas in the family (kids waiting for their much-touted college education to pay off) and they have my sympathy.
IWW?????? Lordy.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Hi Bun...haven't met you before, I don't think. I agree with you wholeheartedly, and it bugs me too (tho' maybe not as much as you? ). I've never even ENTERED a Starbucks, and I'm sick of seeing them everywhere! Tho' I may follow your advice, Frem, now that you've given me the idea.

I bought a new pair of shoes this year, too: a $12.99 pair of rubbery flip-flops (good for wading in the surf or a creek). Prior to that I had exactly two pairs of shoes: a pair of tenny-runners (which I was forced to buy because of my achilles tendonitis) and a pair of Tevas. Wore 'em all year. Oh, anc I suppose you can count my wolly slippers. I know the bit about women and shoes is true for SOME women, but generally only the wealthy, as far as I can see.

To me it reflects, again, the unreality with which the moneyed view the rest of the world, as mentioned. It's what THEY imagine us as being, and has nothing to do with reality.

Jon Stewart ROCKS!
