Hello all,

With OTC Primatene inhalers disappearing this year, I have been looking into alternatives available without a prescription.

I came across a homeopathic remedy called Respitrol.

Anyone heard of it? Any insights out there?

I found this list of ingredients. The ingredient list sounded like a list of poisons, but I'm no chemist.

Quote:

Respitrol Ingredients: Official US Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia Ammonium Carbonicum, Antimonium Arsenicosum, Antimonium Tartaricum, Arsenicum Album, Bromium, Carbo Vegetabilis, Chlorinum, Kali Carbonicum, Lobelia Inflata, Stannum Metallicum, Sulphuricum Acidum.

Prepared at potent 10X, 30X and LM1 dilutions, our active homeopathic ingredients are stabilized in our oligotherapeutic base for maximum absorption and balancing response. Unlike most homeopathic medicines, Respitrol does not contain alcohol.

Maybe DT or CTS would know something about that. I hope you find something that works just as well for you, since the one you use isn't going to be available anymore. :(

Lots of arsenic and even some chloride, though those aren't even proper chemical names, it's like they dropped an "um" at the end of everything no matter what the conjugation rule was. Bizarrely, they even messed with the name for Hydrosulfuric acid (why is that in an inhalant?). The thing with homeopathy is that they dilute it to undetectable quantities. Whether it will help...? I don't really buy into homeopathy.

If its homeopathic, its basically just water or alcohol. So it won't do you any harm, and if you believe in it, it may act as a placebo.

Is their an issue with ventolin? Or is that not a brand sold in the US?

I had to look up what this was about, Anthony. It appears that the brand popularly used for asthma treatment contain CFC's and are being banned.

Ventolin inhalers do not use CFC's. My son uses them on and off and they are very effective. I am sure you can access them over the internet if their is an issue in the US.

Hello,

Ventolin works fine. So does albuterol, though sometimes it makes me feel light-headed.

None of them is an over-the-counter medicine. I was looking for something I could get without a prescription.
