Hello,

Obviously this is just a gross violation. I feel like this should be a piece on The Onion or some other fake news site. It's so bizarre and ridiculous it defies belief.

But so far, it seems this did happen. And it seems to have happened in a country I generally perceive to be sane.

This is one reason why people sometimes find that they don't like governments.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

For Christmas I was given a 'doctors kit' with a fake stethoscope, syringe, reflector, hammer for testing reflexes etc. Only the syringe didn't have a needle. Jeez, every kid knows about the needle when you go to get your shots. So I got a sewing pin and 'fixed' the syringe then took it in to show and tell. I guess I'm lucky they didn't automatically assume my parents were IV drug users.

A few months after that I developed a fascination with jets. I endlessly drew every kind of different jet I could see - three engines on the fuselage, two on the fuselage, two on the wings, four on the wings ... should the teachers have figured that we kept a fleet of jets in the backyard?

Where is the common sense? Where is good institutional judgment? It's boggling.

Oklahoma schools: Mid-Del first-grader Patrick Riley was disciplined after pointing his finger like a gun.By TRICIA PEMBERTON NewsOK.com

OKLAHOMA CITY - Lydia Fox said her 7-year-old son is like any other little boy — vivid imagination, loves to play with GI Joe action figures and Nerf guns.

“He can spend hours in the world of make-believe pretending to be a soldier, hiding behind the couch and getting the ‘bad guys,'” she wrote in an e-mail to a local media outlet.

But pointing his finger in the shape of a gun at fellow students landed Patrick Riley in trouble last week at Parkview Elementary School in the Midwest City-Del City district.

Fox said the first-grader was given in-school suspension Friday for his behavior. Instead of letting him sit in the in-school suspension room for the day, however, she picked him up and took him to work with her.

Not much to add here - save that this is a good, and wise place to stand up and fight back, cause just like the rest of Zero Tolerance, once they get away with it against kids and get the wrinkles ironed out, THEN who do they point it at, hmmm ?

Hint: Been to the airport lately ?

At my son's preschool, gun like activity was forbidden. The teachers would let them know they couldn't point guns, but they could put out fires. similiar pose, I guess.

Our rule for my little brother was that he couldn't point his gun finger, later his toy guns, at us. But when we play pretends I do let him do it anyways if I'm playing the badguy.

I think people tend to over react to this, but if it bothers someone they can always redirect, like how that pose looks like spraying fires out at MD's son's preschool.
