Weed goes legal in California. Here's how the program will work

The Best Marijuana Stocks to Buy in 2018
These pot stocks all have one big thing in common: location

In case you hadn't noticed, the marijuana industry is absolutely on fire. According to cannabis research firm ArcView, the North American legal weed industry grew by 34% in 2016 to $6.9 billion, and is expected to grow by an average of 26% per year through 2021. If ArcView's estimates come to fruition, the legal weed market would be worth $21.6 billion in North America by 2021. This sort of rapid and consistent growth is incredibly difficult to find, which is why investors have flocked to marijuana stocks in recent years.
https://www.fool.com/investing/2018/01/01/the-best-marijuana-stocks-to

However, the marijuana industry is somewhat disjointed. An investor can't just throw a dart and pick a winner, because the industry is thriving in some countries while struggling mightily in others.

Pot sales now legal in California, but you can't find it everywhere yet

Oscars will be interesting this year

maybe someone knows the Laws of this State much better than I do? I think they had a 'Liberal' attitude for some time. You could perhaps grow or own or smoke a certain amount before but it was only illegal if you got caught? Medical pot or medicinal use of weed started in 1996 you had some kind of prescription paper?

I may well be wrong: I thought Pot was legal in CA for decades!

Reportedly, we had huge farms of it in the northwest part of the state.

My former next-door-neighbor had a prescription for it, as well he should.
He & his bro built a handsome little greenhouse on his lot, and the plants
were usually in there, tho sometimes they came out in the yard for fresh air
or to show themselves off.

It's about time that it was legalized. I wish the Federal government would get over it's Hoover-inspired "reefer madness" approach.

As far as the long-term negative effects, MOST psychoactive drugs shouldn't be used regularly by anyone under 18-25 anyway, and that includes tobacco, alcohol, and cough syrup. The long-term effects of pot dependence are mild compare to opioid dependence.

One of the good aspects of the new law is that you're allowed to grow five plants per person. The reason why that's a good thing is that pot has often been laced with other things, and the concentration of THC varies wildly.

I never cared for pot, and IMHO the new strains of pot are too strong. Have gotten contact high from ppl in the same room; for me the experience was always unpleasant. I wish that someone would develop "heirloom" varieties of pot that would dial back the concentration of THC to 5%.

Didn't bother watching the long term effects of smoking pot video since it's ridiculous. Dude just got old, and he looks like he has scratches on his nose and a legion on his forehead. The before picture looks right out of college and the after picture looks like a mug shot.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with smoking pot.

Certainly not anything you couldn't say double for smoking cigarettes or drinking booze.

To me, this is the most important part of any legalization laws. Otherwise, legalizing it is just a blatant cash grab.

Growing your own tobacco for personal use would be as stupid as growing your own potatoes. Even at the asenine prices they charge after taxes, with the amount you'd smoke you'd have to turn your whole back yard into a field and then you've got to deal with your neighbors bitching and people stealing or damaging it, not to mention all of the work.

Growing pot OTOH is pretty low-profile and simple, and if you're a light smoker like me who only takes a few hits a day when I am using, 5 plants would be enough for me and I could just be giving a lot away or even trading for things I need.

I'm actually shocked that California is allowing this.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Sounds like a few days ago AG Sessions announced he is rescinding ObamaDrone policy of not prosecuting Federal Drug charges against potheads.
Although there is nowhere in America where pot is legal, outside of Indian Reservations, now some states have provided useful gathering points to collect and arrest users and buyers.

Alcohol, when taken to excess, can & does kill people. It even kills
people who were sober when they got hit by a drunk driver.

became legal again.)

Tobacco, cigarettes, are also very dangerous, often causing lung cancer.

I'd like to grow some, but not the modern varieties that have so much THC by weight it literally oozes out and crystallizes. No, I'd like to try and get an heirloom variety.

Now, if I was going to be a snob about it, I'd try to find this to grow:

Ancient Cannabis 'Burial Shroud' Discovered in Desert Oasis

Archaeologists are hailing the discovery of an "extraordinary cache" of cannabis found in an ancient burial in northwest China, saying that the unique find adds considerably to our understanding of how ancient Eurasian cultures used the plant for ritual and medicinal purposes.

In a report in the journal Economic Botany, archaeologist Hongen Jiang and his colleagues describe the burial of an approximately 35-year-old adult man with Caucasian features in China's Turpan Basin. The man had been laid out on a wooden bed with a reed pillow beneath his head.

Thirteen cannabis plants, each up to almost three feet long, were placed diagonally across the man's chest, with the roots oriented beneath his pelvis and the tops of the plants extending from just under his chin, up and alongside the left side of his face.

Radiocarbon dating of the tomb's contents indicates that the burial occurred approximately 2,400 to 2,800 years ago.

This discovery adds to a growing collection of archaeological evidence showing that cannabis consumption was "very popular" across the Eurasian steppe thousands of years ago, says Jiang.

Thank you. :)

This isn't about it being bad for you. People who claim it's bad never did it. Period.

If they're cracking down on it, I suspect the Privately Owned Prison Industrial Complex is looking for more cheap labor, and Sessions is their guy. Why ship the jobs to Indians that still can't speak well enough not to sound like Indians when you can pay the better prisoners pennies on the dollar to answer phones for the commissary?

The war on drugs has lost us BILLIONS in tax payer dollars and has made it so the majority of blacks in America today don't have a father. Then when they're in there they either turn into a REAL criminal or they become a Muslim most of the time. Prison is fucked.

The only reason that it has been legalized on a state by state basis is because of MONEY.

I tip my hat to California for making it legal to grow 5 plants. That's the fucking way that it should be. But make no mistake, they're going to make boatloads of tax money from this because most people can't be arsed to do anything for themselves and if they were growing the really high quality stuff they could buy in the stores, somebody is likely going to steal it anyways if they don't set up an expensive indoor system for it.

That was referring to January 1st, 2020.

If they ever wonder why everybody in Illinois still buys their stuff from the same people they did before the cash grab, all they have to do is look at a receipt.

LOL. Back before I last quit, I was still getting an ounce for $90.

They just paid $301 for 5.1 grams, and almost 1/3rd of that was Illinois tax.

There are 28.3 grams in an ounce.

I know that new pot shop stuff is supposed to be da bomb, but I better not hear anybody smoking pot shop weed in Illinois ever bitching that they don't make enough money at their jobs.

Although I can't give them shit for not just growing their own yet. Illinois, of course, is one of the few states that doesn't even bother to hide the fact that changing their moral stance on cannabis use was just a complete desperate cash grab since it's still illegal to grow any amount of it on your own.

Weed's fine. What's criminal is that weed is illegal, but booze and cigarettes are legal.

I support full legalization, including being able to grow your own in a garden (especially if your state is gouging you with taxes on it).

I haven't smoked weed in almost 7 years now, despite the fact I'm around people who do it all the time. When I'm in Illinois, they're doing so legally too.

Quitting weed was especially easy, once you make it past the first week or two of changing your behavior patterns.

It was much easier to do that than it was to quit drinking. Quitting drinking required me to fill my days with an old project I had abandoned for nearly a decade because it had become an obsession that was consuming my life. For a full six months I did nearly nothing but work on that project to escape the hold I had allowed alcohol to have on me. The minor hits of serotonin I got from completing super-repetitive tasks were enough to get me over that hump. One month away now from 5 years of sobriety, and I can go anywhere people are drinking and talk to them all night while they're getting drunk and I've just got a bottle of water in my hand.

Quitting smoking? Heh... Maybe someday. It's been engineered for a century to be the most addictive "controlled" substance in the world. My grandma says she salivates every time smoking comes up in conversation even though she quit smoking 42 years ago.

You know... I've been thinking about it and the real crime here is how much everybody is charging for it.

I don't just mean sales tax on top of excise tax and in states like Illinois about 7 other taxes on top of those too.

The state governments (at least a good amount of them) make it nearly unprofitable to grow because of the licensing structure, so only the people with really deep pockets can pay the up front costs, or they have to get a lot of investors that are going to expect a return on their investment.

The fact that the Federal Government in 2023 still considers weed illegal further complicates matters, since interstate travel from where conditions are actually good for weed growing is a moot-point in most states because it would be a felony to transport it, so all of the states North of the Mason-Dixon line have HUGE upfront costs to build the facilities required to grow it.

And so the bare-bottom prices even in the states that don't tax the hell out of it started at what the illegal prices were, which is pure bullshit because they have the benefit of being completely legal and on the books where the people who were growing, distributing and ultimately selling it on the black market before legalization were doing so while constantly taking the risk of seeing real prison time.

Chalk this up to just another example of Government fucking everything up. The way things are grown, distributed and sold is ridiculously inefficient, the prices are far too high, and in most cases because of the extremely high prices it has done NOTHING to eliminate the illegal trade, further enriching the lives of illegal aliens on this side of the border and the drug cartels.

Think one minute about a corn field.

Each stalk yields one cob of corn. How much does corn cost in your grocery store?

Now look at what a 100 acre pot farm looks like...

Do you know how much smokable product is on each stalk? Not to mention all of the other uses of the byproducts that aren't smokable...

It's a fuckin' sin what they charge for it now that it's legal. Even if you don't consider the taxes raised after each sale.

Give it 5 to 10 years and you're going to see one guy owning all of the pot farms in America and making it on the top 10 Billionaires lists.

Maybe it won't be somebody new? Maybe Bill Gates has plans for growing weed on some of that farmland he's been buying up and he's jockeying for position to be the world's first Trillionaire.

First off, kids of the Boomer Generation are Gen X. Most of our kids are only just old enough to start meeting friends offering them their first joint.

Gen X does not claim these idiots. These are GenZ'ers. I call them the Beat Off generation.

I do hope everybody subscribed, commented and smashed that like button.

You're going to need that TikTok ad revenue for commissary if you're going to have a chance of not being regularly ass raped for the next 25-to-life.

My advice to other clout-chasing retards of Gen Z: If you're going to do dumb shit and record it, let's go back to eating Tide Pods and shooting each other through books. Then it's only you who dies.

a viral clip, I'm not sure how real it is

Moral leaders?

There is no Puritan, Conservative type Church Generation anymore its all gone, Divorce is normal and everyone says its ok to get drunk out fo your minds, drown your sorrows in the bar, take in all cultures and all relative morality from all strange parts of the globe and start Legalizing Marijuana and maybe even other drugs incoming...

I still blame the Boomer thing, it forever changed the culture of Commiefornia, New York state and next was the Westerm world itself

nut not all Boomers are of the same mindset and culture, Cher, Bruce Willis, Trump, Putin, Obama, Madonna, Steve Jobs all different people and young kids and teens and older adult family...Madonna buys her kids I think.

It could be 'booze' either but I class it as general careless...did they make the fire, its gone viral

so yeah when you act like an ass you don't just put yourself in danger, when you have not been responsible for your own self others can also be in danger

Johnny Knoxville I wonder if 'Pirate News' knew him growing up, Knoxville, Tennessee, Johnny is suppoedly an 'ADULT' the Generation X who proliferated 'Jackass' culture
he's 53 years old
but acts like a 13 yr old idiot

Some people see a lot of hope in the future but the Facebook, Covid, Fentanyl, Generation Z could be really fucked-in-the-head also

its like Demolition Man became the Documentary
Maybe a 'RESET' is needed

its not about morality, the booze the weed its a race to collect money, higher sales is 30 million for the city or sales means $150M for the state...but it all goes up in smoke, Billions upon Billions in damages

The Boomer Generation destroyed the country. Then they stayed in politics WAY BEYOND THEIR TIME and destroyed society. Fuck the American Boomer generation.

Yeah... right. Of course not all Boomers are bad. But the sociopaths from that generation that lead everything are the worst of the worst, and the overall disappointment the Boomer Generation turned out to be to most of their parents just spread to the following generations and proliferated, growing ever larger and disappointing as more time went on.

We don't know if this is just kids that started another fire from 10 years ago or the video that started this fire. Sigs mentioned in another thread that some people suspect the fire started in some dude's back yard.

I'm a Gen X baby, with Knoxville on the other end. He was the oldest in the group, or close to it anyhow.

But just like I talked about how Boomerism spread and proliferated from generation to generation, Jackass is a great example of that phenomena in effect. Me and my buddies loved watching Jackass. It was funny. They did a ton of stupid shit and got themselves hurt or sick all the time. But we never looked at each other and said "Yanno what? It's been far too long since I've broken any bones. Hey! Let's go out and do some dumb shit!!!!"

Fast forward a few generations and YouTube is now 18 years old. Kids have grown up watching social media videos since they could hold a phone. Who even knows how much toxic shit is filling the average 12 year old kid's head on 2024. Especially after growing up with that 2 years of isolation that a lot of them did when Democrats shut everything down.

The number one "Profession" that kids say they want to be when they grow up today is an "Influencer". Not an Astronaut. Not the President. Not even an NBA player.

Back when the Jackass boys were doing it, they were getting PAID. They got the ALL THE VIEWS. They got ALL THE AD REVENUE.

But back then we were living in a society where they were the ONLY ones who could make money doing that stupid shit. Me and my buddies didn't have any money when we were 20 years old and most of us didn't have health insurance either. Broken bones suck even if you don't have to pay to get them fixed. Most of us would have lost a few weeks work without pay on top of doctor's bills that would put us another 2 or 3 months behind. Jackass was just stupid, fun entertainment. It wasn't a life goal.

If I cared anymore, I'd say I weep for the future. But meh...

I think the kid gloves are finally going to come off out of necessity and I think that we're all in for a very rude awakening.

I'm looking forward to a drastic course-change for our country, but I do it with a great sense of trepidation. After how far Left the pendulum swung this time I'm a little worried how much of an over-correction to the Right we have coming our way.
