Some here seem to forget Biden beat Trump. So I'll remind them that Biden won and Trump is a loser.

Then-President Donald Trump allegedly praised Adolf Hitler during a discussion with his White House chief of staff John Kelly in 2018 while on a trip to Paris to commemorate the armistice after World War I, according to excerpts of an upcoming book, obtained by CNN, from Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender.

"Well, Hitler did a lot of good things," Trump reportedly told Kelly, who was explaining to the 45th President who the allies and adversaries were in both World Wars, according to Bender.

Bender also writes in the book, titled "Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost," that Trump was "undeterred" and persisted in his defense of the German dictator by claiming the country made economic gains under Hitler's leadership.

Trump denied the comments and that the conversation happened when asked about it by Bender.

"This is totally false. President Trump never said this. It is made up fake news, probably by a general who was incompetent and was fired," Liz Harrington, chief spokeswoman for Trump, told CNN Wednesday.

CNN has reached out to Kelly for comment about the claim in the book.

The claims from the new book are the latest example of Trump praising or embracing authoritarian leaders. On the campaign trail in 2016, Trump dismissed comparisons to Hitler as he faced criticism for asking voters to raise their right hand and pledge to support him, a practice some compared to the "Heil" salute from Nazi Germany.

Kelly, according to Bender, was stunned by Trump's comment and pushed back against the then-commander in chief.

"Even if it was true that he was solely responsible for rebuilding the economy, on balance you cannot ever say anything supportive of Adolf Hitler," Kelly reportedly told Trump. "You just can't."

Bender also wrote that "others said the remark stunned Kelly."

The new book also details how Trump's language became increasingly violent during Oval Office meetings as protests in Seattle and Portland, Oregon, began to receive attention from new outlets. The then-President would highlight videos that showed law enforcement getting physical with protesters and tell his administration he wanted to see more of that behavior, the excerpts claim.

"That's how you're supposed to handle these people," Trump told his top law enforcement and military officials, according to Bender. "Crack their skulls!"

He also told his team that he wanted the military to go in and "beat the f--k out" of the civil rights protesters, Bender writes.

Harrington told CNN that this claim in the book is "false" as well.

The 2018 trip was already an infamous chapter in Trump’s presidency because it included the occasion on which he referred to United States troops killed in World War II as “losers” in the course of canceling a trip to an American cemetery near Paris because he thought his hair (or “hair“) would look bad in the rain.

The pro-Hitler statements by the ex-president — whose administration made “America First” its central policy slogan — are of note, historically, for their resonance with the positions of the original, Hitler-friendly America First movement, which held during the ’30s that the United States’ involvement in another European war would be a waste of resources and lives. They are also of historic note because they mark the first occasion that we know of during which a postwar American president argued with his chief of staff about whether Hitler was good, in the course of canceling a trip to a military cemetery because he didn’t want his hair to get wet.

He (Trump, not Hitler) is widely considered likely to be the Republican nominee for the presidency in 2024.

Trump came back from his trip to Russia and started spouting themes that happened to dovetail closely with Russia’s geopolitical goal of splitting the United States from its allies. There was a reasonable chance that the Soviets had planted some of these thoughts, which he had never expressed before the trip, in his head.

Trump has continued to fuel suspicion by taking anomalously pro-Russian positions. He met with Putin in Helsinki, appearing strangely submissive, and spouted Putin’s propaganda on a number of topics including the ridiculous possibility of a joint Russian-American cybersecurity unit. (Russia, of course, committed the gravest cyber-hack in American history not long ago, making Trump’s idea even more self-defeating in retrospect than it was at the time.) He seemed to go out of his way to alienate American allies and blow up cooperation every time they met during his tenure.

He would either refuse to admit Russian wrongdoing — Trump refused even to concede that the regime poisoned Alexei Navalny — or repeat bizarre snippets of Russian propaganda: NATO was a bad deal for America because Montenegro might launch an attack on Russia; the Soviets had to invade Afghanistan in the 1970s to defend against terrorism. These weren’t talking points he would pick up in his normal routine of watching Fox News and calling Republican sycophants.

Reporter Craig Unger got a former KGB spy to confirm on the record that Russian intelligence had been working Trump for decades. In his new book, “American Kompromat,” Unger interviewed Yuri Shvets, who told him that the KGB manipulated Trump with simple flattery. “In terms of his personality, the guy is not a complicated cookie,” he said, “his most important characteristics being low intellect coupled with hyperinflated vanity. This makes him a dream for an experienced recruiter.”

https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/ex-kgb-agent-trump-russian-ass
et-mueller-putin-kompromat-unger-book.html

Russian intelligence gains influence in foreign countries by operating subtly and patiently. It exerts different gradations of leverage over different kinds of people, and uses a basic tool kit of blackmail that involves the exploitation of greed, stupidity, ego, and sexual appetite. All of which are traits Trump has in abundance.

This is what intelligence experts mean when they describe Trump as a Russian “asset.” It’s not the same as being an agent. An asset is somebody who can be manipulated, as opposed to somebody who is consciously and secretly working on your behalf.

I think Trump is hilarious, but he is gonna get himself assassinated by some Secret Service officer who takes his oath seriously to protect the United States from all enemies, either foreign or domestic:

5 U.S. Code § 3331 - Oath of office

An individual, except the President, elected or appointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: “I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” This section does not affect other oaths required by law.

www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/5/3331

I do hope the Trumptards who vote for Trump realize that if he runs for office again, the guys who are assigned to protect him also took an oath to kill people like him. Just in case one of his bodyguards realizes that conflict, Trump better hire his own security. That will be very funny when Trump realizes that the Secret Service might kill him. His paranoia will skyrocket to ludicrous heights.

Check out how many heads of state were killed by their own security guards. One that comes to mind is Indira Gandhi, but there are many more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_assassinated_and_executed_heads_

Security guards are probably the most patriotic employees around, but when a head of state loses their sanity (Trump lost his years ago) and acts against the country (Trump, again), the guards start thinking about their responsibility to their country. Their "thinking" never goes very far because thinkers don't become guards, but it all boils down to whether earning a paycheck or saving the country is more important to the guard. They will prefer the paycheck, but maybe not all guards, all the time. There is a fascinating List of assassination attempts on Adolf Hitler. All attempts failed because the kind of plans guards are capable of making will be poorly made:

Donald Trump stated on July 7, 2021 in a press conference:

"The person that shot Ashli Babbitt — boom — right through the head — just boom — there was no reason for that."

That statement was rated FALSE on the PolitiFact Truth-O-Meter because there were good reasons, but just not good for Trump and his future as President.

A reporter asked Trump, "Because so much of your banning (on social media platforms) has to do with comments you made around Jan. 6, just to clarify further, what did you do to stop the insurrection as some people call it, and why were you not able to stop it?"

In his answer, Trump called the storming of the Capitol an "unfortunate event" and pivoted to the death of Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old San Diego woman who was shot and killed by a U.S. Capitol Police officer when a crowd of rioters was trying to force its way into the House chamber.

"The person that shot Ashli Babbitt — boom — right through the head — just boom — there was no reason for that," Trump said. "And why isn’t that person being opened up, and why isn’t that being studied? They’ve already written it off. They said that case is closed. If that were the opposite, that case would be going on for years and years, and it would not be pretty."

It would not be pretty if Trump were to be shot dead. That may or may not be rated unfortunate for America by PolitiFact. Who can know until somebody pulls the trigger? Maybe "Et tu, Brute?" will be Trump's famous last words? More likely "And you, Jared?"

President Donald Trump told a number of his advisers in 2020 that whoever leaked information about his stay in the White House bunker in May of that year had committed treason and should be executed for sharing details about the episode with members of the press.

Trump, along with then-first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron, were all taken to the White House underground bunker for a period of time during the protests spurred by the police killing of George Floyd as protesters gathered outside the building.

Trump, in the days following his time in the bunker, held a tense meeting with top military, law enforcement and West Wing advisers, in which he aired grievances over the leak.

Trump boiled over about the bunker story as soon as they arrived and shouted at them to smoke out whoever had leaked it. It was the most upset some aides had ever seen the president.

"Whoever did that, they should be charged with treason!" Trump yelled. "They should be executed!" Such a brave, wise and calm President was Trump. For entertainment value I look forward to him returning to the White House.

Tonight I was reading Landslide: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency, a new book by Michael Wolff. This is how it begins:

“We won. Won in a landslide. This was a landslide.”
—President Donald J. Trump, January 6, 2021

The book continues:

The second impeachment trial of Donald Trump was to charge him with explicit plans and strategy and intent — his final days in office a calculated effort to do anything to remain in office. But for those who saw Trump up close, this was not getting him at all. Rather, the opposite: Trump removed organization, strategy, method, rationale, and conscious decision making from the highest level of government.

From the beginning of Trump’s intrusion into American political life, the striving, orderly, result-oriented, liberal world and its media were unable to fathom his carelessness and cluelessness or understand him or his supporters by any standard political measures. Hence, what might appear to be crazy and self-destructive must in fact have been a plan.

Politics could not be pure caprice or farce, could it?

“Mr. President,” said the pollster Tony Fabrizio, trying to explain to Trump what even he might have had trouble fully grasping, “your voters believe whatever you tell them to believe.” Indeed, by mid-May 2021, new polling showed 67 percent of Republicans were of the view that Joe Biden was not the legitimate winner of the 2020 presidential election. Trump does nothing the right way. His ham-handed, doomed, blundering, and embarrassing efforts to undo that election, together with his heedless call to arms on January 6, showed him once more to be the naked emperor, evident not only to his enemies but, with ever-deeper sighs of incredulity, also to his allies. And yet, here we are, him with his grip on the heart of only slightly less than half the nation, the once and future Donald Trump, licking his wounds and, eyeing his public, figuring what new, absurd, and rash exploit to embark on.

There is nothing to talk about Biden because he is not out of his mind. Matter of fact, there is nothing to talk about most Democrats, but the Texas Republicans I know and the so-called "Independents" are pretty much crazy, with lives overloaded with family, financial, psychological problems, at least the ones that voted for Trump. Everyday in Texas I see people who are crazy and stupid correlates with problems at home and weirdo political beliefs. Here is a convenient example:

The president outlined the dilemma: He had come to understand that the Democrats wanted him to attack Biden so as to weaken and destroy him. And then, when he had destroyed “Sleepy Joe” as only Trump could, the Democrats’ plan, he had it on super-secret authority, was to replace Biden as the nominee with … Andrew Cuomo. The governor of New York had been leading a popular daily television rebuttal to the White House’s COVID response — a constant affront to the president.

“Even assuming they wanted to do this,” said Rove, astonished by the ludicrousness of the assumption, “why would Bernie Sanders” — the clear Democratic runner-up — “allow it to happen?”

“Because,” the agitated president said, lowering his voice, “this is all being coordinated by the Obamas. And,” Trump added, more darkly “there is a very good chance that Michelle will go on the Cuomo ticket as VP.”

As respectfully as he could, Rove offered that he found this to be, to say the least, a bizarre theory. . . .

“My God, where did he get this from?” Rove asked Parscale as he was being shown out.

“Sean Hannity.”

“Sean Hannity?” Rove repeated, incredulous that the Fox News anchorman, with his extravagant conspiracy theories, was dictating the course of a presidential campaign.

“POTUS believes it,” said a helpless Parscale. “If you could call Hannity and tell him to let up, that might be good.”

The campaign was a distilled reflection of the president’s indecision, resentments, disorganization, constant sense of victimhood, plus the last thing that anyone had said to him—and, as well, his son-in-law’s sagacious and self-protecting judgment not to challenge him on any of this. But right now the imploding campaign was all being blamed on Bradley Parscale, the website developer from San Antonio, Texas, who had risen from “digital guy” in 2016 to become Kushner’s and the Trump children’s handpicked campaign manager and who proudly called the billion-dollar Trump political enterprise the Death Star — an odd choice of metaphor because rebel forces in Star Wars were able to fly in and destroy the superstructure.

Deliberately killing the President is ultimately no different than killing the President because the Secret Service is stupid and hungover.

The story of Lincoln's death is that only one person was guarding Lincoln, but then the guard went for a beer. That is such a stupid way to protect a president. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Abraham_Lincoln#Booth_s

I am unsure if the Secret Service has learned the lesson about stupidity kills.

I've found over many decades that there is absolutely no way to change the mind of Trumptards, so they will have the crappy life they deserve because they have a head full of crappy ideas. I got my head full of crappy ideas knocked out of my head by Vietnam and a long hospital stay. (If it had not happened to me, I would have turned into my Father, the Burger King manager.) I came to the conclusion that the people who were for fighting Communism were wrong about that and about everything. In my experience the 48 years since have proven they are wrong about everything, but none of the Trumptards I know learned a damn thing from their experiences. They will not disbelieve liars who tell them comforting lies. They will relabel actual truth as a lie. (2 examples of that from 6ix's life: vaccines and masks) They will not zigzag around problems because a thousand obsolete ideas in their heads forbid them from changing directions from time to time or learning from life.

What you don't understand is that I WANT a good Democratic Party. I hate the fact that I'm left with only one choice. Especially when it's such a shitty one. The difference between you and I though is that I hate the party that I more typically vote for these days, and you LOVE your party.

You might not be aware of this, but I've known the same Texans all their lives, starting back when they were kids. Today, they claim Trump won. Back when Nixon was President, they were big anti-communists but not big enough to volunteer for Vietnam. In 1980, they voted for Reagan. To be a Trumptard is not just to vote for him. It is an entire personality type. There is a dull sameness about the people who would have voted twice for Nixon, if they had been old enough the first time he ran, voted for Reagan, twice, and Trump, twice. And it is not just their politics. Their entire lives are dullness and business failure and divorces and bankruptcy and being fired and whining that it's all the fault of the Democrats.

That sounds like an American problem to me.

Or are you suggesting that no Democrats have dull lives, no Democrats have business failures, no Democrats get divorced, no Democrats go bankrupt, no Democrats get fired, and no Democrats whine that everything is the fault of Republicans?

Don't bother trying to find citations to answer that rhetorical question. Even CNN wouldn't lie as hard as you're lying right now.

Biden’s go-big legislative victories have included coronavirus relief, a bipartisan infrastructure law and tax and spending measures that help to address the climate crisis. Hasan is critical of his handling of the pandemic but believes that he was right to end America’s longest war in Afghanistan and has struck the right balance on Ukraine.

“I never imagined I would say this – I was born in 1979 – I think he’s the most impressive president of my lifetime. Now, you might say that’s a low bar compared to Ronald Reagan, George W Bush, Donald Trump, but even compared to the two Democrats who are semi-worshipped by some in their party, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, I think Biden objectively – on paper a list of achievements – has done more.”

Well, I see THUGR has finally gotten past "Russian troll" name- calling and moved on to other libel.

This, from Mirriam Webster

Quote:

name-calling
noun
Definition of name-calling
as in libel
the use of personal attacks or insults in order to undermine an opponent

example: The campaign quickly degenerated into name-calling rather than an intelligent discussion of the issues

Synonyms & Similar Words
Relevance

libel
censure
abuse
mudslinging
smearing
defamation
slander
vilification
disparagement
vituperation
invective
character assassination
denunciation
detraction
innuendo
belittlement
maligning
revilement
aspersion

Name-calling is what THUGR and SECOND (and WISHY and SECOND'S sockpuppet REAVERFAN) do when they don't have a legitimate argument or relevant evidence.

Hey THUGR, how does it feel to be so wrong so often that you have to resort to name-calling?

There is a finite amount of usable resources in the world my friend. That includes right here in America. 8 Billion people in the world and counting.

Jesus Christ, CNN...

Of course only about 7 hours after I make this post you're going to use an article with the following title:

Doing ‘the right thing’ may cost Johnson his speaker’s gavel

https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/17/politics/mike-johnson-foreign-aid-analy

The only difference is that you didn't include the word doing inside of the parenthesis.

It's like you don't even have to listen to anything CNN says these days because you already know what they're going to write on every single issue before it even comes up.

The fact that it was a Bushite NeoCon that originally said it and that you were just quoting him for your headline doesn't make it any better.
