Treasury Secretary Yellen BACKS the IRS reporting $600 transactions because it will 'fill the tax $7T gap' and says Biden's Soviet-born, anti-crypto nominee for Comptroller of the Currency 'deserves a fair hearing

'Collection of information is routine,' Yellen assured when asked by CNBC's Squawk Box co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin about the new information collection that some Americans claim is an invasion of privacy.

And with unchecked inflation the next 3 years under Biden*, there's not going to be a whole lot you can buy anymore that will be under $600, so they'll pretty much know everything that you own soon.

Because you know that just like nearly everything else like minimum wage, it will not be adjusted year over year for inflation.

20... maybe 30 years from now, they're going to know every single case of soda you buy, and then they're going to start charging you more on your health insurance for drinking soda like they do to smokers today.

Use your imagination to figure out all the ways that they'll use this for the "Public Good".

'Smith!' screamed the shrewish voice from the telescreen. '6079 Smith W.! Yes, you! Bend lower, please! You can do better than that. You're not trying. Lower, please! That's better, comrade. Now stand at ease, the whole squad, and watch me.'

A sudden hot sweat had broken out all over Winston's body. His face remained completely inscrutable. Never show dismay! Never show resentment! A single flicker of the eyes could give you away. He stood watching while the instructress raised her arms above her head and -- one could not say gracefully, but with remarkable neatness and efficiency -- bent over and tucked the first joint of her fingers under her toes.

'There, comrades! That's how I want to see you doing it. Watch me again. I'm thirty-nine and I've had four children. Now look.' She bent over again. 'You see my knees aren't bent. You can all do it if you want to,' she added as she straightened herself up. 'Anyone under forty-five is perfectly capable of touching his toes. We don't all have the privilege of fighting in the front line, but at least we can all keep fit. Remember our boys on the Malabar front! And the sailors in the Floating Fortresses! Just think what they have to put up with. Now try again. That's better, comrade, that's much better,' she added encouragingly as Winston, with a violent lunge, succeeded in touching his toes with knees unbent, for the first time in several years.

I'm referring to the concept generally. One needs to be able to make distinctions when discussing abstract concepts. So just because there are evil people in the world doesn't negate using the term 'good' when discussing the concept 'good'. And just because there are bad governments doesn't mean there is no concept called the 'public good'.

When discussing the US in particular, I'll be looking at results before I apply a term because I think any term needs to be proven in particular instances. So, I'm not saying that everything the US government does, or that any government does, is a 'public good'.

Anyway, this should probably be in a different thread, so I'm x-posting there.

I don't have a problem with the word "Good". I have a problem with using "Public" as a prefix for it.

It's not too far away at all from when they use the word "White" as a prefix for the word "Nationalist". In that case though, they're intentionally conflating Nationalism with Racism. Nationalism is NOT Racism. Nationalism is a good thing. It's the same bad people that throw around the term "Public Good" that try to make you think that Nationalism is a bad thing.

Public means government. Public good means Government Good. In the end, they are the only ones that benefit.

I don't care if you disagree. You're wrong. The term is wrong. Anybody using the term is wrong.

In Biden's America for example Commiefornia it seems Hoodrats who never pay taxes can steal almost 1,000 bucks of stuff, the US Cops can’t stop or prosecute anyone who steals anything worth less than $900 Bucks.

Meaningless change is meaningless.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/democrats-scale-back-irs-bank-mon
itoring-plan

Nearly every single American that is working, even if they're part time minimum-wage workers are going to have more than $10,000 worth of transactions in a year.

This is NOT scaling back to ONLY giving the IRS access to bank accounts with individual transactions OVER $10,000. THEY ALREADY DO THAT.

This is for a collective total of $10,000 in a year.

Hell... the way it's worded, that could simply mean $5,000 in deposits, and the $5,000 of withdrawals of said deposits in a year, meaning that it will hit EVERY American. Who knows? Nobody is telling the truth about any of this.

Democrats are Cancer.

And even FOX News isn't reporting this correctly; somehow framing this as some sort of win that should be celebrated.

Yes, it's still ridiculous.

Banks already report transactions over 10,000 to the IRS. They are also required to "know your customer"- in other words, if you want to open an account the source of your money needs to look legit.

Of course, NONE of this applies to the ultra wealth, who operate thru shell companies etc.

Somewhere I read that paycheck deposits are exempted - that it now applies to unearned income deposits only.

But if they don't get you coming, it looks like they'll get you going, since withdrawals do still count.

I hope that that gets a lot of press, since the average American family withdraws more than $10,000 a year.

And yeah - if the banks are already required to report transactions over $10,000 (not inflation-adjusted since the rule was implemented in 1982 https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/USCODE-2012-title31/pdf/USCODE-201
2-title31-subtitleIV-chap53-subchapII-sec5311.pdf
) why does Congress care about smaller amounts? No 'big money' entity is going to be laundering money in $10,000/ year amounts. This truly doesn't pass the smell test.

Yup.

This doesn't effect the people they say it will at all.

Two categories aren't going to be impacted by this.

1. People who do everything off the books and never even bother with a bank account in the first place.

2. People who were wealthy enough to be making transactions of $10,000 or more. (They were already being watched)

The ONLY thing this bill is for is to spy on every single American with a legit income, no matter how little money they make.

The revision that FOX News seems to be celebrating in that article does absolutely nothing to change that.

Did you read the last few posts?

They were already monitoring any SINGLE transactions over $10,000.

This new law would allow them to monitor any bank account that has over $10,000 worth of transactions in an ENTIRE YEAR.

You don't need to be paying for child care or an expensive vacation to hit that.

Just have a mortgage or pay rent.

The only way you're getting out of that one is if your house is already paid for or if you work off the books and find a landlord who is willing to take cash only.

Otherwise, the bank account of every American will now be the business of the IRS.

And actually... I think you're going right on a list if somehow you DON'T show up on their new list. You're probably going to be scrutinized even harder than everybody who makes $10,000 in transactions per year since you're in a much smaller pool of people and it's pretty likely that a decent amount of them are able to manage working and living completely off the books.

Blowback to Biden's banking hustle

https://www.stardem.com/opinion/editorials/blowback-to-bidens-banking-
hustle/article_1c0fa2be-433f-56f3-8865-cae4453105bb.html

Quote:

... No matter what a politician writes on his or her attire at an elite cultural ball — like U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s performative “Tax the Rich” gown at the Met Gala — the everyday people of Colorado and the country are waking up to how they are in the monetary crosshairs of big government.
We’re in a painful period of inflation compounded by a circulation shortage of the dollar. Amid this, it’s the most dutiful members of our working class — the ones who grind side-hustle jobs on top of 40-hour-a-week careers — who are the taxpayers the increasingly authoritarian federal government wants to squeeze the most.
It’s the cash-tipped servers, Venmo-financed weekend-warrior photographers and after-hours handymen who will pay for the bloated bureaucracy President Joe Biden himself says won’t cost you anything.
Case in point: Until Tuesday, Biden’s multitrillion-dollar “Build Back Better” spending proposal had included a proposal that would have compelled financial institutions to snitch on account holders. Banks and other popular new personal money platforms — like PayPal, Venmo and Cash App — would have had to report gross inflows and outflows to the IRS for accounts with $600 or more a year in transactions.
Six hundred dollars. Not $60,000. Not $6,000. Six hundred.
Late Tuesday, ABC News reported the White House had given us all a reprieve. The administration backed off of its proposal in the face of raging opposition and now is proposing to limit its money hunt to bank accounts that get more than $10,000 a year in non-W-2 income.
The fact that the administration was willing to go down this path at all is disturbing. And the outcry against the original proposal should be a wakeup call to the president about his general disregard for taxpayers on various policy initiatives.

Quote:

Even the Americans who are unfamiliar with the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment — the right of the people “to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects against unreasonable searches and seizure” — may now come to a sudden appreciation as to why it’s so important. They perceive the prospective spying Biden’s Internal Revenue Service would undertake to be what it is: a creepy, digitally voyeuristic financial fishnet. And the average guy or gal is but a minnow for the post-modern manifestation of the taxman under Biden and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Doesn't matter. If they're going to monitor every bank account that has more than $10,000 in annual transactions they're still going to be monitoring everyone's bank accounts regardless of the size of the individual transactions.

Thanks for posting those. This is something actually different for once.

Manchin right now is a goddamned hero of the Democrat party and American People as a whole, even if the media is trying to destroy him.

It's also very comforting to hear how many people and organizations understand the implications of this part of the bill in either form, and how adamantly they oppose it.

Maybe I'll pull some of the quotes out later, but the Daily Mail piece in particular is full of great ones.

From your article:

Quote:

The latest framework for the legislation proposes changes to the tax code that would, the White House says, raise more than $1.99 trillion to cover their $1.75 trillion Build Back Better agenda over 10 years without raising taxes on small businesses or those making less than $400,000 a year, which the administration has called a red line for the president.

There's a whole lot of poor Democrats who smoke tobacco that are going to disagree with that when the sticker shock of the little talked about tobacco tax hikes in the Build Back Better plan come into effect.

After all, isn't it rich white Democrats who like to always remind everyone that it's the uneducated and the poor that primarily smoke tobacco?

Not only are cigarettes being raised again, but vaping products (which currently have no Federal Taxes) will be taxed just as high as cigarettes. Pipe tobacco will see a 1,600% increase, making a 1 lb bag that currently costs $17 on average cost close to $60 on average.

This is going to be a MASSIVE increase of taxes on the poor to help fund a supremely fiscally irresponsible plan that is not supposed to raise taxes at all on the poor.

Sadly... this article doesn't say anything about the thread title. I was hoping there would be an update to that.

President Biden's IRS is cracking down on payments made through third-party apps, requiring platforms like Venmo, PayPal and Cash App to report transactions if they exceed $600 in one year.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10372327/amp/Venmo-PayPal-Cas

The new reporting requirement will ensure that small businesses that receive payments through those apps are paying their fair share in taxes on them.

Wouldn't Justin Trudeau Atreides make the ideal choice to be tarred & feathered? He seems just so perfectly suited for that particular punishment. I'd pay real cashy money to be able to see that.

Maybe we should just feather him the next time he tars himself.

IRS lost hundreds of packages with taxpayers’ information

Worse, the agency didn’t always notify the taxpayers that it lost their data, nor did it offer monitoring services to help the taxpayers recover from the breach, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration said. Sometimes the agency couldn’t even figure out whose information was lost, because the IRS’s record-keeping was so bad.
