Spread the word. Thanks. Press Release: Date: 9/19/2015 SCIFI FANS GATHER TO RAISE FUNDS FOR CHARITY Platteville “Can't Stop the Serenity” movie screening and charity auction to support Family Promise of Grant County and Equality Now On Sunday, September 27, fans of television and film writer/director Joss Whedon will gather in Platteville at the Avalon Cinema to raise money for Family Promise of Grant County, a local organization providing services to help homeless children and families achieve lasting independence, and Equality Now, a global organization working to protect the basic human rights of women and girls across the planet. Whedon was most recently at the helm of “The Avengers” and its sequel and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” as writer/director, and also created “Serenity” which is featured in this event. 2015 will be Platteville's second Can't Stop the Serenity event, and the 10th year that Whedon fans have gathered worldwide for scifi movie screenings. To date, these fundraising events have raised over one million dollars for Equality Now and other charities. Says Joss Whedon: “Equality is not a concept. It’s not something we should be striving for it’s a necessity. Equality is like gravity we need it to stand on this earth as men and women.” Platteville's Can't Stop the Serenity event will begin at 2pm at the Avalon Cinema, 95 E Main St in Platteville, WI. The “Serenity” movie screening will be preceded by Internet sensation “Dr. Horrible's SingAlong Blog” and an Internet short featuring Joss Whedon in an unprecedented acting role. The event will also include a silent auction. Advance tickets are on sale for $10 through Friday, September 25 at http://csts.swwi.org . Tickets will be available at the door for $12. Shirts and other souvenirs will be available at the event. Donations will be accepted at the event. The CSTS-Platteville team has partnered with the local Benvenuto's restaurant to raise additional funds for Family Advocates and Equality Now. Anytime on September 27, diners can tell their servers that they'd like to support Can't Stop the Serenity, and Benvenuto's will donate 10% of their food and beverage orders to the CSTS charities. Local organizer Anne Tennies is excited to bring this event to town for a second year. “Last year CSTS-Platteville raised over $900 for Equality Now and Family Advocates. This year we're thrilled to raise awareness and funds for Family Promise of Grant County and their mission to help homeless families achieve lasting independence. It's so fantastic seeing the movies on the big screen and knowing that we're supporting a good cause at the same time. I hope the Platteville community and tri-state scifi fans show up for a great time next weekend.” ### For more information, see http://www.CantStopTheSerenity.com or http://csts.swwi.org or contact: Anne Tennies Lead Organizer, CSTS-Platteville anne dot tennies at gmail dot com End Press Release.
