WORLDWIDE Browncoats arranging Charity Serenity Screenings! 48+ cities! 6 Countries! 23+ US States!

They tend to be all over Charity screenings, and groups of rabid fan geeks (to the press, that is all we are, but it can be used to our advantage here) would be something they are likely to cover.

It would be a way to get coverage out there either by a short piece on tv or in the newspaper. Free publicity. . . and a way for Universal to take notice.

SO Charity screening organizers, have you thought about contacting the press? How? What happened?

Here are some of the examples I've read about:

Gossi sent out this press release:

theonetruebix has a promote page with logo stuff and podcast stuff

Here are the press hits theonetruebix found

theonetruebix Portland screening also got in the
PAPER PRESS see this thread http://www.serenitymovie.org/browncoats/forums/How-Portland-Found-Sere

How Portland Found Serenity, Local fans of a sci-fi cult fave go international.

NYPinTA has given tickets for the Albany, NY screening to a radio station to give away and also gave a Serenity DVD to a radio person who is going to interview NYPinTA about the screenings.

I sent an email to Google suggesting they put up a Serenity-themed Google logo for June 23rd. Best I could do, I'm afraid.

Well, the designer, Dennis Hwang, did say send in any suggestions... who knows? We can hope.

Here's a blog entry from him about that, if you're interested:

Also, a new national press release goes out tomorrow, advance copies of which have been sent to a number of the nationally-known critics who positively reviewed Serenity when it was in release.

Here in Portland, KBOO communtiy radio will have a story during their Wednesday evening news this week, and the other local weekly (The Portland Mercury) will have an item on it on June 22, the day before the screening here.

Hey, if he gets enough people bugging him, he might just say "Hey, this is a deal! I should do this!"

It's linked off the front of tv.com, under the scary international headshot of River, with the tag, "Serenity Screened for Whedon's Birthday, All for charity drive".

Of course. I am coordinating the screening in Raleigh, NC. I used to be a newspaper editor, and I've done some freelance PR and PR for non-profit groups. I've also coordinated large-ish events before. I used my list of media contacts - which include all area newspapers (daily and weekly), college papers, radio stations, TV stations, magazines, and some special interest groups.

To be honest, as far as I know, it hasn't generated much response or free publicity. But we've still managed to sell more than 60% of our tickets, already. I think it's due to word of mouth in the Browncoat community, and maybe the fliers we've passed out EVERYWHERE (restaurants, book stores, comic shops, colleges, events, etc.).
