I was showing Firefly to three girlfriends of mine (they loved it. Yay!)
Anyhow we were watching Objects in Space and when Simon put his shirt back on, all four of us went 'no' at the same time and in the exact same tone.
I don't know if you had to be there, but I thought it was pretty damn funny.

I think it's in our DNA. There's a special gene that activates whenever Simon puts his shirt back on. There is a strong female need to see him shirtless. I personally prefer to drool over his bare back.

Very funny story, blackbeanie, thanks for sharing, and thanks for sharing the 'Verse with 3 friends. Hopefully they will share it with more friends (who will no doubt have the same reaction).

Hmmm...now I got a similar kind of reaction by showing 'Trash' to friends. They ask, 'why do you like Firefly?', so I show them one good reason. And they go, 'oh, yeah, right...mmm.'

Actually, caught my mother looking at the inlay card from my FF DVD, and she said, 'now I understand' Didn't quite have the heart to tell her that it's the big, scary one with the gun that floats my boat...

Ahhhh, yes, there is something delightful about the Mal wearing nothing but his thigh tattoo! And Jayne affectionately holding Vera does make my heart skip a beat. There are lots of reasons to love Firefly!

We had a similar reaction at the Ann Arbor showing of Serenity (RMMC, you'll remember this ). There was a large cheer from the women in the audience at the scene where Mal has his shirt off. Though I'm with SpaceANJL personally. Something about a big muscular brute with a gun really seems to float my boat.

I love that part of the movie, too. I think it's in the commentary that Joss apologized for spending a majority of the scene with just headshots of Mal. He could have had the full chest view during the whole conversation with Inara on the wave. I don't remember the exact quote, but Joss confessed to a moment of stupidity for not taking advantage of Mal being half naked.

He apologized to the fans in the commentary for OiS, too, for having Simon shirtless, but not for long - something to that affect.

EDIT: I think...

In the BDM, when Mal gets out of bed, his sweatpants are slung so low you can see the top of aforemetioned tattoo. Can see tan line, too.
Not that I took the time to look...or know that that's chapter 8, about 43 minutes into the movie...
::whistles away, looking innocent::

No offence to the Simon lovers but I didn't particularly care whether his shirt was on or off. I do recall thinking when I first saw it that the man had some nice abs, but then I saw the person connected to it and.... well it put me a little off. Don't know what it is about him but Simon.... I can do without seeing the man so much.

Now Mal and Jayne and Wash hmmmmm..... I'll be in my budiour.

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

Oh, Girlaskew, you look so innocent, but you have the eyes of an eagle. I had to check out Chapter 8 about 43 minutes into the movie. I was cursing Joss for using so many shadows when Mal slowly, slowly stands up (frame by frame). There it was. You were right! Top of the tattoo and definite tan line. Good Work!

I found this shot of Nathan from an Outer Limits episode called Starcrossed on August 1999. I thought you might like it. Why can't Joss give us more of Mal?

Wow, you really went and looked, that's awesome. I also used to know exactly what page in the Serenity Visual Companion the shirtless pic of him was. W/O looking, I wanna say its 102 or 104.

Thanks for the pic. I have seem that, actually I own the ep, but it never was my fav. I like my Nathan a little older.

Isn't it funny how we can remember all of the important things. You are a true Mal fan.

LOL, thanks! Can I get that on a plaque? Is that spelled right, or is that gunk on your teeth?
By the by, I have a great screencap of the getting up, muscle-y pic. PM me with an email, if ya want, I'll send it to ya!

I had to check and plaque: the tablet type and the gunking teeth type are spelled the same. I'll be sending you a wave for the muscle-y pic.
