Ok so I've never conned and the last time I went to anything as a character it was when I used to medieval reenact. An odd question but has anyone ever been/witnessed someone dressed as a character but they are the opposite gender. Example, I'd like to go as Wash since he is my favorite, but I don't know if I would weird people out since I am a girl....

Am I the only person that thinks a girl that makes a living rubbing strangers for a living has to ask people if it is weird for a girl to dress in the costume of someone that she idolizes because he is a he and said girl is a she and people might think it's weird? I shouldn't be!! read what I just wrote again...Well, it's true..I am ROFL..hey I actually amused myself..Therapy must be working!!!!!!!!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I think it's ok. Might be unusual, but certainly not unheard of.

I think it's generally more accepted for girls to dress as boys than for boys to dress as girls, so yeah, you're OK.

*tries to imagine a guy in a River costume* That would be tricky, yeah.
Wasn't there a gal dressed at Wash in one of the D*C pics I saw? I just remembered that, but then I couldn't find the pic again!
Side note; does your name come from the Garth Nix novels, Sabri3l? I love those!

There were more than one female Jayne at DragonCon, and a female Wash or two. I suppose more depends on where you plan to be while in costume.

Baby, GO as a girl Wash. One of the best Spike's I ever saw (Billy Idolish vampire from Buffy series) was a girl at Dragon*Con this year. She ROCKED, looked almost more like Spike than Spike does.

Sabri3l, female Wash shouldn't be a problem. As some others have posted, there have been female Jaynes, of all things -- there is photographic evidence.
Also, our own EmmaRigby posted a photo of herself from Serenity Cubed with a great-looking female Captain Jack Sparrow.
Just do it! And post photos.
(ETA: If Nathan can appear in public and smile for the camera while wearing kilts of leather and fabric, nobody better complain about you wearing a flight-suit or a Hawaiian shirt.)

I've never done costumes either but I think of myself looking more like Zoe than Inara-anyone seen a white Zoe with short curly hair?

I was going to post the pic but it's on my PC, not on my laptop. I'll do it when I can get to it.

BTW the pic was taken at the "40 Year Old Virgen " premiere, the kilt is leather and it go Nathan his role in "Slither".

Hey, hey, no dyin' at fff.net! We need crew!

Yes, that leather kilt at the Virgin opening shows leg. But also shoes and sox which'll make your eyes bleed. Put your fingers over that part of the screen or something. Heh.

The utilikilt incident occurred this summer and the fan (a guy, so we'll have to excuse him) who ran across him in Hollywood photographed from the waist up so we actually have only his word for the kilt. But we know Nathan likes airflow right along with Mal, so we believe.

EMBERS

at the Browncoat ball there was a very adorable young woman dressed up as Badger (with wiskers) which looked very cute when she was dancing w/her boyfriend who was dressed up as Mal!

We had another lady who had ball gowns for the dances, but on the boat trip was dressed up as the perfect Mal....

so no, I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing whatever you want to a convention...
and I don't think anyone else will either.

Kinda like the irony there... [img]

Jayne is the character it would take me the least effort to be as I wear army surplus boots and combats anyway... unfortunately I can't find any Chinese t-shirts anywere. If I were to "cross" as a FF character, I think I'd quite like to be Inara.
