I am planning (or trying to plan) to attend Dragon Con this year. I was wondering who all's going?

Also from past attendees, any tips on planning the trip around about 11 hours of travel for me and trying to see as much as possible without ending up seeing nothing.

I'll be there. Dressed as Dr. Horrible for the singalong and giggling like a little kid at Browncoats: Redemption

Oh you are going to have so much fun! I wish I was going this year, but still recovering from my layoff last year (working now though yay!).

I hope to get to go back next year

STOWEAWAY

Our family will be there -- hopefully all dressed in Speed Racer costumes (the kids' idea). But I may put on a Saffron get-up for the Browncoats shindig. You'll also find me promoting the Browncoat Ball wherever anyone will listen.

My biggest suggestion is to make sure you read through the program guide before you arrive. You'll have a better idea of how to schedule your day around the big events you want to see. Dragon*Con will make the schedule available online at least a week before the con.

I would also recommend bringing snacks to munch on in line. That way you won't find yourself with a 1 hour wait & your tummy grumbling. Or end up having to have someone save your spot so you can run to get grub.

Bring your camera & have it ready for pictures at all times. Hope to see you there!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I have my plane ticket and should have a roommate and badge waiting for me there, so I definitely have some sort of plan at this point
My recommendation is that you travel there on Thursday, pick up your badge, go through the event program, get all nice and settled in before things really start happening. Talk to folks, plan out where you want to go, take into account that the lines get longer than anything you'll see at Disneyworld if you actually want to see any panels or events. Oh, and don't expect anything to go entirely to plan, because it won't. DragonCon is about having fun, meeting people, and seeing pretty stars who are generally happy to be there. There are lots of room parties, get-togethers, costume contests, fan-run events, and a costume parade that shuts down the street. It's great fun, but never really predictable.
Other than that, the main things you need to know are to never stop the middle of a hallway or you might get run over, never buy food from the hotels because there are much better things to spend your money on, and always get into an elevator when it stops for you, no matter what direction it's going. What goes up must come down eventually.

I posted a response in your other thread with a link to my guide. The communities and Wiki I refer to in it will be very helpful for you to learn about what and how things happen at the convention. I'll make another entry in a few weeks about more tips from my experiences. But for, I'll share the story of how things went for me.

My first year, I went by myself, not really knowing what to expect, and it ended up being the highlight of my entire year! Unless you stay in your room the entire time, you can't end up seeing nothing. There's always several events going on simultaneously every hour, but one of the most fun aspects is people/costume watching and chatting with 30,000 strangers that could all be good friends of yours.

As long as you can get there and roam around freely, you'll have fun. This goes without saying, the 3 most important things you can do right now are to make sure you have a ticket, have a way of getting there, and have a place to stay.

I don't know how long it's been that way, but did Thursday registration last year. Sadly, because I didn't get there until 6pm, it took me 3 hours of waiting in line! I'm hoping to get there earlier on Thursday this year.

P.S. If you see an Asian looking Simon Tam, it's probably me. Come say hi!

Come on, let's get more excited about D*C 2010! It's less than a month away now, and Summer just got added to the guest list! I have a feeling they're going to need bigger rooms for the panels now.

Who all is going to go? What are your plans? And will you be dressing up as anyone from the Verse?

Me, I'll be Simon Tam, and my gf will be Kaylee. We'll attend the Firefly Costume Contest on Sunday in those outfits, and will more than likely swing by the Shindig on Saturday in some other attire.

Can't wait! I'm a little disappointed there isn't a Firefly group shot. I know Jewel's going thru the Stargate photo group, but Morena, Mark, and Sean and maybe Summer would be a great pic

If you are interested in a group shot for the photo ops, you should email froggy photo's, and see if something can be arranged. I still haven't heard back to see if tickets for photo ops are going to be available there, or only through preorder, doh. I won't be dressing up cause most of my weekend will be spent fetching auto's for myself, and friends, but I'll be around for sure.

Tickets for the photo-ops have always been available at the con. Has something changed I'm not aware of?

Don't miss the parade Saturday morning. I'll be marching for the 1st time in the Marching Periodic Table and there's always a big Browncoat group.

I'll also be volunteering a shift or two at the Browncoats:Redemption booth.

And I'll be in a gold chan san (and a blue and black one the other nights)for the Shindig and geeky Firefly and True Blood t-shirts during the day.

Froggy will always have tickets available at the con. It would be terrible business if they turned away thousands of con goers. I don't pre-order because of cancellations, lack of a schedule until a week prior to con, and to save on PayPal fees.

And in terms of Jewel, she's not going to do it with him since she's already contracted to Craig Damon's photography.

The D*C homepage has the photo sessions on the left side of the main page. Look for "get your photo made with the stars."

Here you go. I snapped this one backstage after the Q&A panel last year.
