This is about there being no press or canon proof that "Warren" is the last name and only actor word-of-mouth about "Washburne" being the last name.

Way back when, 2001, somebody put "Warren" on the IMDB. And not just Warren, but Jerry Lee Warren. While Jerry Lee is patently disprovable, the Warren was random and so stuck around, despite people like me maintaining that there is no evidence.

This summer, someone claming to be Alan Tudyk posted a response to a site blog this which he signed "Alan Tudyk a.k.a. Hoban Washburne (the real full name of my character)." You may read said post here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/showblog.asp?b=590

This corroborates Nathan Fillion's post to the old Fox board in which he said one of Wash's real names was Washburne.

I can't tell you why somebody changed it back. Whomever did either knows something that nobody else knows or doesn't know anything. Either way it's a nuisance; I agree.

As for actual names, I'm going to go with what Alan Tudyk says. Or what someone claiming to be Alan Tudyk says. Nothing says fangrl like irrational devotion to obscure details. And I am to be the world's biggest Wash fan.

Well, I'd like to see a canonical response. I saw Washburne first, then saw Warren in a fanfic and totally thought the author was on banana-flavored crack...now this at least explains the fanfic. If my opinion counts for anything (which it don't) it should be Washburne because that at least makes sense to have a nickname like Wash.

Thanks for using the earth logic UnchartedOutlaw, or Taylor, if you'd prefer. It's nice to know that even if I'm a loon, I'm a consistent loon and that's not nothin'.

As for getting a canonical response, I'm right there with you. I'm hoping the movie can at least let there be a good start.

Hi, I don't know if it will do any good but I have submitted a correction request to IMDB about this. To do so I had to register with them, and go through a pretty long process (many CONTINUEs).

The explanation I gave was that the correct name (Hoban "Wash" Washburne") came from Nathan Fillion on the DVD and Alan Tudyk posting on the OB.

Maybe if a few more of us do it, they will take it seriously?

Hope we get it fixed. My new ginger kitten is called "Washburn" after Wash!

I don't remember that at all. Could you give us all a chapter and time for that?
