This episode was the very first ever broadcast to the world, the original opportunity to delve into the best Science Fiction Series every made.

I think my favorite scene was Crow's Defiant Last Words, just before Mal ended him.

Perhaps a second favorite was Zoe trying to keep a straight face after Inara smacks Mal, her runaway indentured slave. The dialogue Mal was about to spout was interrupted by the surprising smack.

What other favorite scenes do you have?

For some reason The Train Job gets a bad rap. But it's the episode that got me hooked.

I love the scenes with Mal and the Sheriff. In the jail and when they return the medicine. We find out exactly what kind of man Mal is.

Another favorite is the "Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?" scene.

Shortly before "I was aiming for his head"

Why or where does TTJ have a bad rap?
I really enjoyed Gregg Henry, one of my favorite roles he has played.
Niska had a return engagement in War Stories.
Mal's "no, there wasn't a choice"

TTJ was, as we all know, a rush job because Fox was apparently staffed by a group of idiots. As an episode, it's lots of fun, but didn't introduce the setting and characters like "Serenity" did.

Can you imagine if the original 2-hour intro episode had aired first? That show would have gone 7 seasons.

I'll never forgive you, Fox.

Shortly after the Kaylee/Simon exchange on the fun of crime.

There is so much to love about this episode, the first of this wonderful series to be aired.

Thanks for all the replies, fans. Keep them coming.

The very first character broadcast from The Verse is a belly dancer, who sneaks a note to Mal. Who is plsying Chinese Checkers - not sure if I recall noticing the game before. Bigger screen now.

Perhaps I really am viewing it im a new light. The last vestige of Mal's enthusiasm for the heist dissipates when he learns the Fed troops took off from Paradiso without a care. Not sure I noticed how pivotal tjat was, particularly for the first ever broadcast.

Still like River's first ever segue, "Mal. Bad. In the Latin"

Jayne's "But I waited for you guys"
