but I forgot what people said .
What order should the episodes be viewed in, if you're showing them to somebody for the first time or going through them again yourself?
Why aren't they in order on the DVD set, anyway?

They are in order on the dvd set. They are in the order that Joss Whedon originally wanted them to be in, but the buttmunches at Fox wanted to jump right into the action so they aired The Train Job first. I watched them in the order they were intended to be in and I'm so glad I did.
Just make sure you watch Serenity first, followed by The Train Job and Bushwacked. That's the first disc. I don't remember the exact order of the rest, so follow the way they appear on the dvds and you should be fine.

"Why do we even have that lever?"

Yeah, I know about Serenity / Train Job.
But what about The Message? I may have disc Three in the disc Two box and be utterly confused -- in fact that's very likely and tell me if it's true -- but it seems that The Message is the fourth or fifth episode. Before Trash, anyway. And yet, they refer to the Lassiter.
Have I just put the discs back in the wrong boxes and not noticed, or is there funky continuity here?

You know, now that I think about it, I'm pretty much convinced that I have the discs in the wrong order. Can anybody confirm this for me? (I don't hav access to my box set until tomorrow)

According to my (UK) DVD it goes
Disc 1 - Serenity , Train Job, Bushwacked
Disc 2 - Shindig, Safe, Our Mrs Reynolds, Jaynestown
Disc 3 - Out of Gas, Ariel, War Stories, Trash
Disc 4 - The Message, Heart of Gold, Objects in Space

HTH!

I know that.. I'm always just so excited to be watching Firefly that I just check the case and put the disc in right away.

Don't I feel all foolish now.

I understand that this topic has been debated at length and in all kinds of ways:

okay...beating a dead horse here

I believe that the order of the DVD episodes is not the order in which they were filmed, or the order in which they would have been aired if Joss had had a full season...

BUT given what was filmed, Joss himself chose the order of the episodes on the DVD to give some feeling of a story arc and closure...because OiS makes a nice 'rest'
when River is accepted by everyone on the crew.

PS I was looking for the old thread, going thru some archived threads from long ago...and I have to say how much I miss those days...
When the browncoats (us) saw ourselves as a united group who loved Firefly ranged against Fox network...
The saddest part of the political election has been how much it has divided and embittered people here at this site that I love so much.

OOPS! You had the actual disks in the wrong order?
You weren't debating the order of the final episodes? LOL...oh well, I don't care...
I'm posting this anyway
