I've gotten it in my head to do a world map and color in all the countries that are home to Browncoats. Based on the folks that I've met in the Virtual Shindigs (on AOL IM, Sunday 8:00, Tuesday midnight GMT) we already have the US, UK, Netherlands, Slovenia, South Africa and Australia. Where else? Where do you all hang your hats? Feel free to mention the homes of Browncoats that don't mention themselves. I'd like for this to be as thorough as possible.

I'll post the map on my website and in the Blue Sun Room after, let's say, a week or so.

We're pretty deep in the dork forest now.

Maybe you should do the US state by state?

You always could. Just do a Google image search for phrases like "map america" until you find one you like, then fill it in using the paint can tool that's one every picture manipulation/painting program. That's what I'm doing.

If you do that, I'm in Virginia.

A Blue Sun faction and True Alliance faction map would be interesting, too. Of course you'd never be allowed to complete it

We've got factions? First I'm hearing of this. My last fandom addiction has more factions than you can shake a stick at, but nobody said anything to me about it here.

You could mark me down as Massachusetts (where I grew up), Vermont (where my family currently lives), or Pennsylvania (where I'm in college, and where Firefly drew me in).

Actually, just do PA (me) and VT (my brother).

I know there is a county level map of the US from the election that could be used for the US since its a little more precise than a state level map.

I first saw it in this thread at Subsim.com:
http://207.44.164.159/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=26384

I live in Monroe County New York.

I know there's at least one person in France that's a browncoat. Can't recall his username off the top of my head.

I'm in Cincinnati, OH.

I'm in Australia too, but I know there are Browncoats in New Zealand...

Firefly aired in Finland last spring so there are some Finns here and on other Firefly boards.

As far as I know there are Browncoats also in Ireland, Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Israel, Germany and Austria.

Hi, I'm your neighbour! I'm in Manitoba. And from what my father-inlaw (German) says ~2.5 Germanies fit in MB.

What interesting timing (for me, anyway). I have just been browsing through a thread on the 'Versal Board about this ( http://browncoats.serenitymovie.com/serenity/index.html?fuseaction=for
um.viewtopic&t=3813
- have to register and sign in to see it, but that's not really the point). There are currently 418 entries, and of those I noted the following from outside the US:
England (19)
Canada (15)
Australia (7)
Germany (6)
Finland (5)
New Zealand (4)
Netherlands (3)
Denmark (2)
Sweden (2)
South Africa (2)

Now, are we only counting Browncoats who use the 'boards or all known fans? Cuz I can add my Mom in Minnesota (she thinks Nathan has a cute butt!) and several New Jersey converts here with me, and a
re-converted couple (saw the show, didn't know about DVDs or movie) on the Space Coast in FL.

Y'know, as a follow-up project, it would be fun to track whose converts are distributed widest and follow the ripples 'cross the 'Verse

Hello folks I work with Mapinfo, which produces maps from things like spreadsheets, can work to state level easily in US, and any other countries maybe only to country level (though I have postcodes for most of Europe). I keep thinking about doing this, a lot more interesting than what I'm meant to use it for (telecom circuits).

Maybe I'll have a go, have to get my website working again though.

I have decided to include long-term duty stations on the map, mostly just for the super-fun coloring. I've gotten "The 'Stan", as Static says, and Iraq. Where else are Browncoats fighting the good fight? (by that I mean, for the show. I'm not saying a damn thing one way or the other political.)

This is getting really interesting...

I've asked this question elsewhere, but didn't get a response: I wonder if we can find out HOW MANY fans of Firefly there are worldwide? Evidently, some fans are not registered on the Browncoat site.

This will give us an idea of how much interest there is, and hence, how plausible a trilogy and/or a new series will be in the future.

I need this. I'm startin' to wear out my DVD box set. Not far from rememberin' every line of dialogue and commentaries on it.

"Now I can't get down".
