There are people sending junk to UPN, and
the junk may hurt our chances. The campaign
people had to explain/apologize to UPN about
wierd junk being sent.

The link to this faq is important, maybe the
person in charge of this board can put it
somewhere where people can see it?

Apparently, people have heard that some other show with aliens who love tabasco sauce got "saved" by fans sending lots of tabasco sauce bottles to the network, and copied that, thinking it's quirky stuff that works in such campaigns... the most ironic part being that someone here referred to such copying as a way to make this "save the show" campaign "original"...

Apples rot. AND in firefly, apples were
given with little grenades in them. Also,
blue gloves represent feds that hunt you down
and experiment on girls. If UPN found out what
the gloves/apples represented, they could be
freaked out. Some people thought they were
doing good, and may undermine everyone's efforts.

And I think the area has had bomb/anthrax scares recently so they get worried about wierd junk. Postcards can't hide any wierd stuff in them.

Well, I don't think apples are a very good idea. But on the other hand, excuse the pun, blue gloves would have been a very good idea a couple of months back. I think people are going overboard with these comparisons. I doubt that sending apples or blue gloves to either network would send them into some type of alert! I think the support team needs some support, they're starting to crack. At the same time, I understand an organized effort is essential if we're going to save FIREFLY, so if Support says to stop sending things, anyone doing so should stop.

one problem with blue gloves (other then the fact the blue gloves guys are evil) is that many latex gloves have a power on them( to keep them from sticking). the last thing we need is to piss UPN off by causing them to think we may have given them anthrax.

I completely agree. An ORGANIZED effort needs to be followed. If you have suggestions or comments, send them to www.fireflysupport.com, but we need to be doing all the same thing; to ring in one voice.

I do think that blues gloves are a good idea though. In the show they may be something terrible, but its the closest thing we have to an 'inside-joke' that can be physically sent to UPN like the tabasco sauce idea; its a symbol of the background conspiracy that Firefly has been eluding to. I dont think that UPN would take offense, especially if it was coupled with an explaination of its meaning and our intent.

If nothing else, think of the annoyance factor. Imagine trying to get rid of thousands of blue gloves. Would YOU be favorably disposed towards the senders? Would you wanna do anything to help the senders out? I wouldn't. I'd be cursing their names every time I opened ANOTHER $#*(I@ BOX OF GLOVES.

One thing we are forgetting is that there are many people out there who are allergic to latex and some of the powder used in these gloves. Causing some mailroom guy at UPN to go into shock and have his throat close up, will not help get Firefly back on the air.

We need to stop comparing our fight to save Firefly to that insipid Roswell campaign. I amdit to watching Roswell, but it wasn't a show on par with Firefly and we should be able to demonstrate that we are more than just a pack WB Teeny Boppers. The show is for grown-ups and we should act accordingly, which I think we have in the ad taken out in Variety. That was a mature action to show our love for the show, and the postcards that include the ad are far more dignified than a case of Tobasco sauce or a box of Blue Gloves. It also demonstrates that we're willing to spend our time and MONEY (root of all television production) on Firefly.

We're adults (for the most part) and we should keep acting that way. And sorry if this sounds like a D*&% thing to say, but I had to get it off my chest.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

I sign off ALL of my postcards with "Keep flying!" It's an inside joke and has a positive ring.

Along with my postcards, I sent this email to my local affiliate:

--------------------------------

I understand that you are in charge of programming for XXX, and I hope that you will consider adding Firefly to your list of programs. Firefly was an outstanding show, and had the opportunity to become a popular and long-term series. Because of conflicting programing with the baseball season and lack of information, I came to the show rather late, but have been a regular viewer since. My story has been repeated several times: in the three weeks before cancellation, out of the approximately 50 people that I contact daily three became regular viewers and two more have became occasional viewers. We represent the +$70,000 household income, 25-45 bracket, 2 females and 4 males.

Firefly has a growing presence on the internet. I believe that you would see a dramatic rise in viewership if you would air the previous episodes as repeats and pick up the remaining episodes as new programming. I hope that you take this terrific business opportunity and provide us with a dynamite show.

Thank you, and keep flying!

NO JUNK! Right. When I posted the Blue Gloves thread, it was to get feedback. I'm certainly glad now that I did. You all made valid arguments AGAINST it, and I have changed my mind about it. I still feel that something more needs to be done than merely sending postcards. I feel like this guy---> What more can we do? I'm at the end of my "hope," and I don't pray anymore.

If you sent a few postcards to your local UPN affiliate, that is supposed to be a VERY
useful thing to do. If they call UPN and ask
whats up with firefly, that could really help.
Some people are even writing to sponsers, and
are getting responses.

Other than that, we have to boredly wait around, maybe make some plans for new years.

heh heh vomiting smily faces make me want to
