Don't you see? Delaying Serenity is a thinly veiled form of marketing research.

Universal just wants to stir up internet buzz and get a TON of postcards from Firefly fans.

How else are they going to know for sure how many of us there are? The DVD sales are great, sure... but Universal isn't getting a piece of that action. They want to know how much interest there is in the $50 million project they have invested in themselves.

So let's not dissapoint them!

Let's put our collective heads together and come up with a nice little campaign (postcard or otherwise) with which we can introduce ourselves to Universal.

Proceed with brainstorming...

I say let's convince them that April 22 was the right choice to begin with. Films seem to linger in theaters better in the summer than they do in the fall. Especially films that are unlike standard fare (Napoleon Dynamite.. Lost in Translation...). Serenity, if not a blockbuster, has the potential to become the first sleeper sci-fi hit.

Sleeper hits linger and Serenity is a film based on a cancelled tv show which has lingered wonderfully for over two years now!! Lingering ability is one of Serenity's strongest virtues! April 22 plays to that strength better than September 30.

"If I was here to rouse you to action, I'd be [...] using... rhetoric... [...] I really do believe in this studio. They supported this project since before I'd even thought up the SURPRISINGLY COHERENT script (nice save!) and they've been very up-front about their scheduling and marketing stratgies. so I stand with their decision [...]" - Joss Whedon, http://whedonesque.com/?comments=5406
