Stephen Hawking, Who Examined the Universe and Explained Black Holes, Dies at 76

Stephen W. Hawking, the Cambridge University physicist and best-selling author who roamed the cosmos from a wheelchair, pondering the nature of gravity and the origin of the universe and becoming an emblem of human determination and curiosity, has died at his home in Cambridge, England. He was 76.

Yes, Rest in Peace. He was a giant who had a zest for life, and a great sense of humor.

I think it's fitting that we pay homage to Mr. Hawking at a site created to celebrate a show that occurs in outer space. It is people like him that are guiding us there.

America loves a winner!

March 14 was also Albert Einstein's birthday.

I wonder what Hawking's mind could have given us had he not been so afflicted for over 5 decades. Despite his condition, he still excelled.

He is free.

Stephen Hawking predicted 'the end of the universe' two weeks before his death

A theory explaining how we might detect parallel universes and a prediction for the end of the world was completed by Stephen Hawking shortly before he died, it has emerged.

The renowned theoretical physicist was working right up until his death last week on his final work – A Smooth Exit from Eternal Inflation – which is currently being reviewed by a leading scientific journal. In it he predicted that the universe would eventually end when stars run out of energy.

But Hawking also theorised in his final work that scientists could find alternate universes using probes on space ships, allowing humans to form an even better understanding of our own universe, what else is out there and our place in the cosmos.

Yes and no.

He was already excelling before the diagnosis, and was at Oxford when he got it. It didn't affect his mind, just his body...I'm sure being told he would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life gave him the opportunity to eventually focus on Cosmology more so than it would have had he not been. Being in a wheelchair limits your options. If he were born with the disease, more than likely he would not have been given the chance, given the nature of disability accommodations in 1942. Btw, he had a hard time learning to read and came from a low middle class family, btw. Let that be a lesson to those who would rather not subsidize learning assistance for todays future Hawkings.
