Mal's and Zoe's sidearms and Jayne's Vera are all like this. Several of the "background guns" (many of those used by Niska's guys, for example) don't appear to be altered, though. I've seen Uzis, AK-47s, Browning BDAs and Beretta Model 92s, various shotguns, and I believe there was a first-generation M-60 LMG mounted on the hovercraft in HoG, and I think Book even used an old British sten submachinegun in the assault on Niska's Skyplex. This subject has actually kind of been a minor nitpick for me about the show... I realize it's the story and the characters that matters, but I wish they'd have gone just a bit farther to make all the slug-throwing type weapons not immeadiately recognizable. But then, that's me...

I will have to watch it again but I think the gun River used in the skyplex ("Dont look dont look dont look....BAM BAM BAM" may have been an AMT "Long Slide" .45 You are correct-Some weapons were modified, others were not.

FREDEP

Look like they updated the UIP page with a wallpaper size version of that pic, and a message to all the browncoats:

""To all browncoats :
"We've made a wallpaper from the picture below.
The quality is not great but perhaps it eases the pain
of the release date shift..." ""

Well isn't that thoughfull .....almost makes me proud to be Dutch (ahem...like that's ever going to happen)...

Anyway...take a look

K...

Usually I keep quiet and observe, but I feel like I have to speak up 'cause some of you are ASSUMING things... that aren't true. So.

(here's where I say possible spoiler alert)

When this picture was taken, we were in the middle of filming a scene where we're going somewhere. Somewhere not on the ship. That's why I'm not wearing my usual mechanic coveralls. Simon is NOT wearing a funeral outfit. Mal's pants are less tight, yes. Adam's hair looks like that 'cause there's a shadow behind him. Book and Inara aren't there because they were busy with something else, NOT because they're not in the movie so much. Wash is packing heat because the photographer wanted him to be holding a prop, that's all. (photographers are sometimes big on props). As far as facial expressions go, this pic was taken along with about a hundred other pics in the span of about five minutes or so.... It was very rushed. I would probably have not chosen this pic out of all of the ones he took (and it really did seem like a hundred) but whatever.

And lastly, yes I am skinnier. Not that big of a deal, trust me. I still look relatively the same in the coveralls, and I was very, very happy that I didn't have to continuously stuff my face all day to keep the weight on like I had to do in the series.

And the cargo bay looks very much the same as it did in the series. It might not look like it in this photo... but the changes are slight.

TRUST ME. Don't go by this photo... or any photos. Just watch the movie!! There's obviously going to be some changes... but trust Joss, too. He's a very smart man. The changes are good. It's still the same Firefly, the same characters, the same relationships, and the same beautiful ship. But better.

Love, Jewel

PS Why the heck is the alias "JewelStaite" already taken? I had to use the b from my middle name and now it looks weird.

Oh yeah...

And I'm not wearing a watch. That's a very cool, very spacy, very Kaylee-like leather bracelet. It even has little daisies drawn on it somewhere.

Thanks Jewel, we're so desperate for anything new the slightest things get analysed in the finest detail. Some would say we're obsessed :-)

And we need to feed the obsession!

Hi Jewel,

Thanks for another great and insightful insider post, and also for your thoughts on the delayed release date, which I'm sure made a lot of people feel better about the news (I know I certainly did).

I bookmark the threads you contribute to and looking back all of your previous posts have come from the username "JewelStaite", so perhaps that was the account you registered when you first used the site and for some reason (technical problems, etc) you've now had to open another? Maybe Haken could set something up to indicate when a person is a VIP (or should I say, a BDH ) as happens with Adam and Nathan on the official board.

Regards,

Ade

ZOID

Jewel:

You obviously read the entire thread, which is a very dangerous thing to do around here. Some of the people around here take perverse pleasure in casting doubt -- never me! ...Like when you were a kid and one of the other kids would say, "Your mommy doesn't love you! She said she was gonna leave you here at the kindergarten!", until you were in tears, and zoid got sent to the principal's office for a paddling. It's kind of an art form; but a lot of folks don't tolerate it well (especially when they're a little nervous, because their movie's release has been rescheduled).

Don't think for a minute that anyone here is seriously considering skipping the movie because there may have been some changes. They could have y'all dressed up in tutus, hunting elephants with butterfly nets, for all I care. The true fans -- those who have waited two years for this resurrection -- will wait another year for it, and be in the theatre en masse for the premiere. You, the rest of the cast, and Joss can count on us...

On the other hand, you are lookin' a mite skinny in that photo. I sure hope you can pull off 'Kaylee' to all the purists' expectations without the massive tonnage you were totin' on yer bones during the TV series! (zoid dips your pigtail in the inkwell)

Are we even talking about 10 pounds difference here? When my 43-year old wife (and mother of three) heard the commentary on the DVD, in which it was related that you were forced to put on weight for the role, she just laughed and said, "Really? Well, where'd she put it?" ...because she certainly couldn't see it.

Don't fret Jewel. We love you.

Respectfully,

zoid

P.S.
In case you weren't aware, my wife's name is Kayley. One of the things that initially attracted me to the show was the fact that it had a character 'named after' my wife...

Only 307 days, 19 hours, 56 minutes, and 44 seconds left until The BDM!
(Grrrr! Aaargh! *whimper*)

The new picture looks pretty shiny its kind of the uip folks to post a wallpaper size version of the pic. Lets hope we start to get some more little bits of info and pictures to tide us over until september

Thanks to jewel as well for clearing up a few doubts some of us had over the new look of the ship.

BRUISERSMOM

All black is an iconic color combination. Simon looks morbid in it, even if he's not attending a funeral. I hope that his other outfits are like his white shirt, colorful vest combinations.

All black, all the time would make me wonder what the costume department is trying to say about his character in the movie. I keep on thinking about how Angel always wore black and dark colors because it went with his character's personality. I am also reminded of the Goths in Seattle who like black and whose favorite tagline is "It's tragic."

As for Wash, someone should have told the photographer that having him wear a sidearm is very out of character.

I wonder if he does more than fly the ship, spar with Zoe and play with dinosaurs in the movie? I hope not. I hope that the gun like Jewel said is just a prop. Wash is valuable the way that he is in the show because, like Kaylee, he brings levity to the other characters who are more intense and serious.

River does look to sane in this photo but after looking at other promotional photos, she doesn't look crazy in them either.

The look of the circular pattern in the cargo hold reminds me of the gate in Stargate.

ZENCAT

Jewel, it always makes my day when you post. (And the other BDHs, too, of course!) Thanks for clearing up some of the misconceptions. The only thing I found disturbing about the photo was that Mal's pants aren't tight enough. (No, I'm kidding. Sort of.) You look lovely, as always, and I so want your outfit! And Summer's dress. I like that you referred to everyone in the photo by their characters' names, not by the actors' names. :) See, it's things like that that make Firefly real to me - 'cause it seems to be real to you all, too. Although I'm gnashing my teeth over having to wait five more months for the movie, I'm telling myself that you and Joss and Adam surely know what you're talking about, and if it were a bad thing, you would say so. Rest assured, the delay changes nothing except the wait time! I will still see the movie over and over and drag all my friends to see it until they are mindless money-spending Firefly-lovin' zombies. Thanks for posting!
