Gee, I'm confused....what IS the RWED? Doesn't it stand for Real World Events Discussion? So, tell me...what does any of what I wrote have to do with "real world" events?

This oughta be good!

This post is obviously intended to make people argue.

You're certainly taking on an argumentative tone.

That should probably be kept in the RWED, is all I'm saying.

Okay, let me get this straight...you mean within the General Discussions? Because General Discussions is a subset, and so is RWED. They're both a
subset of Community. FYI.

Don't get me started on the religious enthusiasts.
I have a "friend" who wants to brow beat me into submission. She wants me
to go to church with her, that community is off utmost importance and church
provides that.

Meanwhile, she's at odds with her family and has no friends within her church that come and visit her at her home. She told me she tried it once.
Sometimes I don't get it. Religion, corporate religion is a sham. True faith,
that can't be bought or sold.

I actually thought the same thing when I read it, but figured it wasn't worth quibbling about. I think it's safe to assume that he meant General Discussions. Simple mistake.

Sounds like she might just think that getting together with other people might be good for you. It doesn't sound like she's trying to "convert" you or anything. If she is pushing religion on you hard, I'm kind of surprised that you're friends with her.

I keep people like that at a distance unless they're family members. On occasion I'll talk to my Grandma and my brother about religion since the church is a large part of both of their lives. They both get a lot out of it. For my grandma it's really the last social activity she has in her late years, and she is a true believer through and through. For my brother, he gets that out of it as well, but he also donates a lot of his time volunteering in the soup kitchen and doing photography for the church. He's a much more social creature than I am and I think that the church has helped him remain sober since he quit drinking.

Sure... I know it's just a big business that doesn't pay taxes, but if you're actually getting something out of it in return who am I to say they're wasting their time. They certainly could be doing a lot worse things with it.

Yes, that crossed my mind, but there's a way to go about doing that. My younger sister (may she RIP) was a devout Christian, but she had a way of
asking me to come to church with her that I just felt compelled to do so.
Obviously, I loved her to no end. She loved to sing and dance in church (yes, one of those churches) and she would never ever preach to me, well,
maybe an ocassional "I will pray for you" and nothing more. She was an amazing person, my little dynamo. But this friend insists and I don't respond to being put on the spot like that. Allow me to make that decision, and if I don't, well that's between me and God.

Some folk get something truly meaningful from attending church, and that's
a good thing...for them. Not me. I've been that way since I was a kid. You
would often find me by myself walking into the nearby church, all by my lonesome. That's how I talk to God. All quiet like. I would often volunteer at my local church, up until I grew a little older. But now I do my best to help family. I tell my friend "that's how God made me."

But you make a good point...who am I to say anything about how others spend their time. One of my main complaints about people is how they want to mind YOUR business. One other one is how adults treat kids. I am not even kidding, I'm not very tolerant of people who mistreat children.

But just like college isn't for everybody, attending church is something special. That should always be a personal choice.

The corporate church it is what it is. But the spiritual aspect seems to help those that need something to guide them in life. Bravo for those that
find peace.

Great post SGG!
Fwiw I put this at 8 to 10 years away.

You've got me thinking... some ideas:

"The Rule of Law" is an action drama about an extra special secret agent cop, Harry Law, who has been empowered *secretly* by Master Pence, to meet out Justice according his own sense of right and wrong, which of course comes down from on high (The Big White House).

"He's the Law above the Law. He's Harry Law..." duh duh duh!

"Open Carry" - tv show about the best amateur and security videos of real shoot outs across the country. That's not a laugh track btw, that's a real studio audience!

"10 o'clock curfew" of course makes me think of The Purge. I also think of all the speakeasys that would pop up to serve the after 10pm crowd, and how much more fun those would be than the bars we have now.

Mexican Hunger Games is so dark it makes me cringe and laugh but only just a little - I know what you're doing there though - too true.

The rest - rich with biting satire and pure comedy gold! Thanks SGG!

Fortunately for me, I never had anybody who tried pushing me into church (except for those annoying Jahova's Witnesses that don't seem to get the hint that I'm not interested. I think a majority of the people in my family are believers, but most of them don't regularly go to church except for my Grandma and now my brother.

You seem one step closer to God than I am. I'm about 50/50 on the subject. I'd love to believe, but I've never seen anything that compels me to do so. But when it comes to Atheists that can't shut up about it, I find that 100 times as irritating as believers that won't shut up about it. At least, generally speaking, the believers at least are coming from a good place. When an Atheist goes around saying that there is no God, I actually get a little angry about it. They're basically telling me that they have all of the answers. They've got everything figured out. They are simply smarter than anybody else who chooses outright not to believe in God. I just don't see what they get out of it.

I actually enjoy talking about it with my Grandma on occasion. She's actually quite open minded about things for being as devout as she is. Recently we talked about the whole Religion vs Science stuff out there and she surprised me by agreeing with my take that neither God or Evolution have to be mutually exclusive. I don't understand why anyone who controls the narrative from either side always presents it that way. It just never made any sense to me that it isn't possible that if there is a God than Evolution could have been the way he did it all. And as for the Big Bang Theory... sure... Let There Be Light! BANG!!!!

I dunno. It's sometimes fun to pass the time thinking about the possibilities, but I could never devote a bunch of my free time to something that I don't even know if I believe in at all.

Yeah... The money aspect is pretty sick. My Grandma lives on a really fixed income and she still tithes 10% of her social security income as well as the small pension left to her from my Grandpa. They've got priceless Tiffany stained glass windows in their beautiful church, but they need to take my Grandma's money. Gross.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

In support of my and Seconds more annoying relatives.....it's JEHOVAH's Witnesses. Only idiots from the ghetto say Jahova. It actually is supposed to be the name of the god in the bible. Remember Indiana Jones spelling it out in Hebrew??

They aren't ever going to get the hint you aren't interested because they take it as their self-imposed job to "save you" for the "New Kingdom" in nonsensevilleland.

In support of peaceful sleeps on Saturday mornings, you can call the Kingdom Hall closest to you and ask that you be removed from their routes, and then put a NO TRESSPASSING sign or two near the road or sidewalk or porch. They are supposed to respect it. If that doesn't work, cleaning a shotgun on your porch if you see them coming usually does the trick.
I only wish they didn't know where I live and that I kinda HAVE to play nice. But, they don't come round our back door anymore after hubby and I were having some holy moments of our own on the couch one child free weekend a few years ago. And bonus, they no longer look us straight in the eye, either

LOL... I'm not going to start waving a gun around just to keep them away. I might be in Indiana, but it's basically the suburbs out here. I think the next knock on my door would be the local police if I did that. :)

I don't care much for signs either. Never put up any political signs or put any bumperstickers on my car. Won't even wear any shirts that have silly sayings on them either. It's better not to say anything and let people think you're an idiot than to open your mouth and make them certain of it, right?

I don't even know what you're talking about here. I'm a gun rights supporter and I've said previously that I do own one, although I've never fired it.

I happen to actually like my neighbors and my neighborhood, so I don't want to be the antisocial person on the block that starts this type of behavior. I know you live around a bunch of inbred animals yourself, and likely a lot of meth-heads as well, so I can't really fault you for thinking this is acceptable behavior in Satan's Asshole, IN.

Yeah. I'm sure they don't appreciate when I snowblow their driveways or get out my tools to cut down the occasional Maple saplings that start growing out of control. Or in the case of my neighbor that let's his lawn sometimes grow 3 feet tall in the back before doing anything about it I bet it really annoys him how I don't call the cops on him for it.

Yup. My neighbors hate me.
