Just saw this post from Adam on the Fox board. He saw a rough cut at Joss' last night.

It's great. "Serenity" is a great movie.

With temp effects, the BDM still kicks a$$!!! You'll love it! Every single one of our beloved cast of characters (and some newbies) are well-served and showcased in a loving and thrilling way... even Jayne. ;- )

Joss is our hero!

We all went out to Nate's favorite sushi restaurant afterwards and had a grand time, hic!

Can't talk story, but the movie is one of the most unique and exciting film experiences I've ever witnessed. Riveting...

I'm sure you'll all agree.

Informational chestnut:

Apparently there will be some test screenings in the very near future. I know not when, or where. Mitch can, if he is available, certainly give the particulars about the protocols of this stage in the process; and how the reactions in those tests affect the forward momentum of the BDM. That marketing and promotional stuff is way above my pay-grade. :- )

Serenity and love to all,

A.B.
(can't wait to see it again)

Okay, I'm getting into one of those screenings! No way in hell I'm waiting until September now. I'll even go for bootleg internet stuff, if I can't insinuate myself into one of these.

I hope he and I have similar tastes in movies. After all, he's just straight-out saying Serenity is a great movie, and I don't think he meant the word in it's "pretty cool" sense. If his favorite movie is The Ten Commandments or some movie like whatever that John Travolta sci-fi flop was called, I'd be very very scared.

oh yeah, when I lived near LA I went to a number of really lame 'test screenings'
oh I can't wait for Serenity to come out!

And I'm so happy to hear such wonderful reports from our BDHs...

I just still haven't gotten over the waiting until Sept thing...
:(

But very very happy the movie is so great

ADVANCE SCREENINGS!?!? Where do I sign up?

Does anyone else feel a slight bit of guilt at the thought of going to an advance screening though? I mean most of us here are pretty fanatical about Firefly. So I really don't see us being unbaised screeners. Then again I guess they need to know how the movie goes over with fans right?

If anyone hears anything about how you get in these advance screenings please post. I'm sure I've got some non-vital organs that could be traded for a seat.

To get into these type of test screenings, you need to be approached by someone with a clipboard who asks you to go based on the demographic they are looking for. For a movie like Serenity, I imagine it will be the typical 18-49 year old crowd, as that is the norm for a sci-fi test screening. (I used to work for the company that does these, but alas it's been too long and I don't have any contacts anymore.)

So - how to find these people? There are certain usual haunts in the LA area that they use to recruit audiences. They tend to hang around theatres near the location of the screening (that location is the big question mark - once we know that, getting in will be easy!). The most common areas: Burbank AMC 16, Santa Monica's 3rd Street Promenade, Woodland Hills AMC, Old Time Pasadena. All Browncoats in those areas should pay attention to anyone with a clipboard and let us all know if you find out the location!

MOST IMPORTANT - Don't tell them you are a fan of the show, and don't tell them if you work in entertainment/advertising. They will not let you in. They want the least biased audience possible! Say you manufacture shoes, or work as a pig farmer, or are a student of origami. (Would origami be considered "entertainment"? Better avoid it, just in case....)

yeah, I got all of mine from walking around the Santa Monica pier
looking like a tourist (ie buying crap from the vendors)
those guys w/the clipboards love to hit on tourists

sometimes you can get in if you know someone who works for the testing company
but not if you work for Universal

CAITE

The college I attend, Cal State Long Beach, has people on campus practically every week handing out pre-screening passes! If anyone is in the Long Beach, California area and would like to be kept informed about this so maybe we can pre-screen Serenity, just let me know and I'd be happy to help!

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Spike&Jezebel covered it, except for explaining that studios prescreen movies for different reasons.
Quote:

Adam Baldwin said (quoted by DietCoke), Apparently there will be some test screenings in the very near future.

Note "very near future". When a studio previews a movie this far in advance, they are looking for things that need changing. Marketing previews are done much closer to scheduled release, in the case of Serenity, probably in summer.

So, if you go to a winter preview of Serenity,
Don't let 'em know you're already a fan
Tell them what you like about the film
Tell them you'll recommend it to others
Ask them when it will be released

In particular, if a lot of folks say the same thing under "What did you like least about the film", that part could get cut.

Kick ass. I can picture the whole cast sitting around Joss's house getting loaded and watching Serenity. I am willing to travel great distances to see this movie screener.
When knowledge is eventually acquired, pretty please, ship it my way.

Does anyone know if they'll do screeners in Europe?
Like in the Netherlands??? :-)
I just saw over at the imdb that there's a Dutch company distributing the movie:

* United International Pictures (UIP) [nl] (2005) (Netherlands) (theatrical)

Does that mean they could do screeners here in the Netherlands?

thanks!

I would love to catch an advanced screening, but I fear Richmond, VA, may not be in the target for such a blessing. I say good luck to any and all who can maket it to one when/if it happens. However, for those lucky few who do see it early, please be repectful to us poor souls who must wait until September.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Shiny news indeed from Adam. Have I mentioned how great it is that he is online so often and keeps us informed?

I can only hope that there will be an advance screening somewhere in my area. If there is and I catch wind of it, I will be canvasing the areas looking for people w/ clipboards! LOL
