Hi folks. I am a long time Firefly fan who is just starting to learn how to play the mountain dulcimer. I will be talking to a luthier in the next few days about making a custom dulcimer for myself. On dulcimers the sound hole shap is not very important, and is usually decorartive. I am trying to come up with an idea for a firefly themed sound hole and need some help.

Here are the guide lines

1) it needs to be a solid silloutte. There can be no crossing lines. This is hole remeber

2) It needs to look good as a set of 4. On an hourglass mountain dulcimer there are 4 holes. One to each side of the fret board, on both the top and bottom parts of the hour glass.

3) It shoudl not be overly complex as it needs to be carved or routered out.

Some ideas I have had.
A) the Firefly F B) the Sereneity S
C) some kind of small bug/fly with streamer of motion trailing behind it. (this one is in the lead for the firefly themed ones)

I say DEFINITELY the "F" from Firefly--kinda goes along the whole "F hole" thing with guitars, even though it's not a guitar... anyway, go with the "F" is MY vote.

Nope, no "M" on the dulcimer... unless it will be MY dulcimer, in which case I'd have your beautificus image laser etched into it... did I just hijack this thread on your behalf?
