It is a TV Show on one of our networks. It is a spin-off of FBI, which is about a female Agent and a Muslim Agent.

For Most Wanted, there seems a lot of background and interaction with characters and storylines about Native Americans, or First Peoples.

The main character's wife, and daughter, and in-laws, and co-workers. And some episodes are centered on such environs.

If you haven't yet, I keep thinking you might enjoy them.

No, I haven't maybe I should. It seemed from the ads I've seen as just the usual police show. Thanks for the info JSF.

I've marked it in my local tv magazine. It's on tomorrow night.(Tuesday)

The gist of the show is that they are the manhunter team, the fugitive trackers, they are not localized but chase around all over. They are the hard chargers, getting the hard cases.

But the Native American (including Canada cases and background) aspects are why I keep thinking you would enjoy as I watch them.

JSF:

Gave it a watch tonight. Good show. Noticed one of the producers Dick Wolf, used to produce the Law & Order series. All of them. I liked them.

It did me good to see Native American characters so prominent in the show.

Interesting to note the actors that play two of the male leads are both from Alberta and members of the Cree nation.

The girl who plays the daughter is like her character mixed-blood.

I shall have to keep watching.

Saw the episode tonight. Was really very sad and showed the destruction and pain that was brought on by the residential school system.

Very hard for me to watch as I began thinking about my grandmother and her siblings.

The motto for the residential schools was given, : "Kill the Indian to save the man."

That rung some bells in my mind. I've heard it somewhere but it must have been when I was a child.

That was a repeat episode.

Other episodes had given me an inkling that you might enjoy them. But when I saw this episode in it's first airing, I really was hoping you had watched it.

The background, perspective that it provided was unique from what I've seen elsewhere on Prime Time TV. I thought it was powerful and thought provoking. Also delving into the heritage with the daughter. Plus some of the underlying tensions and animosity between different Natives - from different tribes/Nations, different areas, different reservations, Tribal Police, different countries, etc.

If you haven't caught on by now, the mother (Jess' wife) was a full blood who died in combat.

If you found it hard to watch, think of how hard it was to get that episode on air. The writers formulating that story, the actors bringing life to those roles.

I didn't quite catch on whether Residential Schools was only a Canada thing, or if it was in USA as well.

I did feel that most of the people who died IN that episode really kinda deserved it, but not those who died before the episode started. Was glad it ended without another needless death.

I'm seeing this show in repeats right now JSF as I didn't start from the beginning.

There are a lot of differences even between I think even closely related tribes. Mohawk, have reservations on both sides of the border because the Iroquois confederacy was big and consisted of 5 tribes. This is the second time I've heard the residential school system mentioned in a show. The first time was from "Lou Grant" back in the late 70s. There were a lot of things at play in that episode because you were dealing with 2 countries instead of one. Feds aren't liked by the tribes in the east in Canada. Then you had the anger from the residential schools. So, so much the writers packed into that 1 episode. So much praise for them and the actors. That is one major aspect of the show I really like is how Jess is learning from his in laws about his wife's culture and then passing it down to his daughter.

I caught on from the first episode I watched the Jess' wife was full blood and died in combat. Saw the episode where they went to the mother's grave.

I have to give really high praise to the writers of this episode and the actors. They all truly captured the pain that has crossed multiple generations from the residential schools.

As I said in another thread JSF, the residential school system operated both in the US and Canada. My grandmother was an American, so when her parents died, she and her brother and sisters were raised in a school in Montana.

Yes, I did too and I could feel the father's anger when he found that the police did nothing to try and find his daughter. I was very glad that Jess' brother-in-law was able to talk Reg down so he didn't die. So he would be around to help his little brother and maybe they can get some help for Reg's father.

All in all a very powerful episode.

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the show.

This particular episode seemed to have numerous scenes of escalating tension, conflict, with some easing of tension, and sometimes resolution in the scene. Some scenes result in deserving death, but some are just quite gritty.
This made me feel like watching an episode of Firefly, with similar sensations.

Caught it last night. Another good episode. Tally had a problem at school then her dad went after a woman who was obviously a nut case. Think Jess was disappointed at the last scene of the show when he found out that his daughter really didn't want his help in dealing with a classmate. She just wanted someone to vent to.

Yeah, I stuck that in the file labeled "men think they are supposed to solve any problem, but women just want to talk about the problems witout resolving any" but Tally injected the angle of her younger age.
I thought it was going to be more about the spirituality of her tribe with animals such as Ravens.
That killer was a nutcase woman as well. And then her friend intentional abandoning her kid as well....

I filed it under, "Jess, is Tally's father and he thinks he should help his child anytime she has a problem." He's still learning that she's not a baby and can start to stand on her own a little. Grandmother knew.

I think what got Tally was the boy just killed the bird for no reason.

In the case of the nut job, that was manipulation at its finest with her friend. The woman used everyone around her. Jess called her a "sociopath", I think and he was right.

I had the impression that parenting Tally wasn't a 50/50 duty before the wife died. Jess doesn't seem to have done as much before, and certainly expected her to perform all of the cultural training from her side of the family.
Great that Jess has the In-Laws to fill in for that portion of learning now, and the excuse that they are live-in or babysitting or housesitting for him is wonderful.

I'm sure it wasn't that way before Tally's mother died. Jess is still learning about his wife's culture, you see that from the way he interacts with his in-laws.

I'm not sure how Jess and Tally came to be living with his in-laws. It could be generational and they took them in after Tally's mother died so she wouldn't loose that connection to her heritage. In which case she is a very fortunate little girl.

I think the family are Mohawk which means Iroquois Confederacy which means a matriarchal society, which means Tally's grandmother's family comes first.

I always thought Jess had always encouraged the traditional cultrual teachings, but just had never been directly involved with it - letting the wife handle all of that allowed mom-daughter to have a special bond outside of dad, but now he is willing to fill in or intrude on that special world.

Like I said up thread I am coming in on the middle of the first season. So I don't know how it all started.
Jess obviously did but like I said this is a learning experience for him as well. And he is filling in for the mom and that will also create a special bond between him and Tally.

Brenda, head's Up. This past Saturday I saw another episode of Most Wanted. It was in the 7pm Central Time slot - the first time slot of the 3 hours of prime time. I just happened upon it while channel surfing, caught it fairly close to the opening of the show.

I don't know if it was a "new" episode, or if this is a new slot for the show. But I had not seen the episode before. It had to do with stalkers, and stalking. I didn't detect any angle about First Peoples, or cultural topics, so maybe not a must-see for you.

So maybe keep an eye out. I've seen more ads for that Declassified show, always saying it is in the time slot on Tuesday that Most Wanted used to be in.

Good start to the second season. Glad they were able to talk the boy out of killing himself.

Also think it was a good idea to include Jess's father in this episode. Coming around to play grandpa and show off his new girlfriend. This side line should be interesting if they include more of it.

As an aside, have you read the book "Killing Crazy Horse" - the most recent in the Killing series?

It was pretty intense. Never got any clips for the episode up here. So I just had to tune it. Nice change of pace. Too bad about the young man.

Don't know anything about the series of books. Would have to look them up. Who's the author?

The author is Bill O'Reilly. I believe they are non-fiction, sort of re-looking at history from different perspective perhaps. The Crazy Horse entry sounds sympathetic to the First Peoples experience. I think he was referred to as the best military Commander in North America.

I'll take a look at my local library and see if they have any of them. They could be interesting. Think I knew he was considered one of the best Commanders at the time.
