I havent posted in such a long time. How ya'll doin?

Anyhow, I keep seeing folk referring to small Firefly-related gatherings as "meetups". Well I refer you to the following thread I posted a long time ago in "Fireflyology" about gatherings:

for those who dont go there:

SHINDIG: (n) this is not only one of our beloved episodes of Firefly, it is now the term used whenever Firefly fans gather. For example, there is a Vegas Shindig coming up and an East Coast Shindig being planned. synonyms: soiree, party, kegger, bash, to-do, get-together, jamboree.

This is like how Anne McCaffrey fans call their gatherings a Gather, after the DRoP series. Ours is a Shindig!

SHINDIGIFIED: (v) refers to people going to a Shindig. They are either going to be shindigified, or have been shindigified.
Usage: "Have you been shindigified yet?" "Not yet, but I plan on going to the Vegas Shindig."

"Shindig" should be used for Firefly fans gathering no matter how large, small, fancy or simple they are. All that's required is two or more Firefly fans together. They're not meetups.

Trust me. I made up the rules on this. Use it! Love it! Honor our beloved show!

The reason folk are callin' 'em "meetups" is meetup.com and the ease in using that service.

But we should always use shindig! Thus spake me! oh, sorry...god complex showing.

And there is talk of some sort of thing over on the UB/SB about a thing in vegas this coming spring. But I dont think the OB folk have planned one. That origonal message of mine was posted years ago when there was the first Vegas Shindig.
