For the New York area Browncoats--Jewel Staite just posted on the OB that she'll be at I-Con ( www.iconsf.org) April 8-10. It's in Stony Brook, L.I. Awesome!

--po1s

Edited because I thought it was in Ronkonkoma, and it's not.

Actually, she posted it here on FFF.net first:

Ahhh...for some reason my browser wasn't downloading that entire thread. I'd seen that there was a Jewel post, but I couldn't find it. Ah well--at least this thread will bring it to the attention of anyone in the Northeast whose browser is also being difficult....

I also will be attending I-Con as an author guest. This is very shiny news, indeed!

Awesome! By the way, I checked out some of your Star Trek novels recently and really liked them, as did my dad--you're really funny!

Ah, I see the reason for the confusion--the HOTEL is in Ronkonkoma, so if you go to the "directions" part of I-Con's Web site that's what pops up first, but as you say, the convention itself is in Stony Brook.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Careful of the spelling. The media convention on Long Island spells its name I-con. The gaming convention in Springfield, Illinois, the same. The science fiction convention in Iowa City, Iowa, spells its name Icon. So far, nobody has taken "I Con" for their official spelling, but I reckon it's only a matter of time.

By the way, this year's Icon (Iowa, remember?) is number 30 in the series. It predates the PC, so the referent the founders had in mind when they chose the name was dry, not gooey.

Keep the Shiny Side Up

Wutzon: Gov't Mule, "Banks of the Deep End", from "Deep End"

Hey everybody!

I e-mailed the friendly & wonderful David Cortijo, who is the director of marketing at I-Con, and he's down with us having a room for a couple of hours so that Firefly fans can meet up with each other and gab, gab, gab. BUT he will need an approximate nose count so he'll have some idea how big a room we need. So I guess I'm appointing myself as an organizer here: Please let me know if you think you are coming and would be interested in a get-together, and the approximate size of your group. Either post to me here or e-mail me through my profile (but not both, otherwise you'll get counted twice). I need to be able to give him some sort of guesstimate of the number of people interested by the end of February.

Quoth the Cortijo: "The more you can tell us in advance, the more we can do for you in the long run." He also notes that pre-registering for the con is cheaper than paying at the door, and also easier on the organizers. (Hint, hint.)

I say we hold a big Shindig after the meet.
Ms. Staite is invited, of course, a guest of honor!

We can do both! (But I'm only organizing the one.) We won't be able have booze at this thing, so y'all are going to have to take up the slack with the after-hours partying....

So, someone asked me about a fan table, so I asked David Cortijo about them. They are having them--Star Wars, Trek, and SG-1 fans are doing them--and they sound quite reasonable ($100, which includes 1 membership to the con, a $40 value). Obviously we'd need people to man the tables too. So let me know if this is something that you're interested in helping out with!

Just a reminder that I need to have some approximate nose count by next week. It's not a commitment on your part, it's just to help me get a room that's not massively huge or way tiny. If you are coming with a group, please let me know the approximate size of the group. Thanks!
