Ok, we yall kno that Firefly has only a flicker of hope left.
Here we have a second chance as fans to rally behind a series from the beginning, and it's David Greenwalt's Miracles. From the brain behinf Angel, comes David's new show, yes it's not Joss, but it will be good. The SHield from Shawn Ryan turned out good, (from what i hear) (i dont get the show in my area, bluk!)

Miracles will have dark tones, and ABC advertises INTENSE SUBJECT MATTER, hopefully it's as good as Buffy and Angel. Never forget that Greenwalt helped Joss make the two what they are today. Buffy more than you'd think...

I feel we should have at least a forum for Miracles on this site, as hopefully we will not just be Buffy & Angel & fallen Firefly fans in the Jossverse, but Miracles too.

Who's with me?

If you know anyone that can help my screenwriting career, please help! And yes, I am self-advertising here. Hehehe, me such a little devil.

What's it going to be about. Scifi-ish?

Here's my dirty secret: I never watch anything but Fox, network wise, so I only know shows that come on Fox. So I only watch Fox. So I... and on and on. Scary to think that if Firefly had not been on Fox I might never have seen it.

I just don't care about Miracles. It doesn't seem all that ground breaking or anything. It'll probably end up like Brimstone and Millenium (I liked what I saw of Millenium and Brimstone, both of which were vaguely in-the-vein of Miracles, but they never really went anywhere) which is to say, cancelled. I also doubt ABC can pull off a genre show other than Alias.

Why all this talk of giving up on Firefly? Granted, the future isn't bright, but if the fan base dies off suddenly, is Joss or anyone else going to try to shop it around anymore? Or make the (possible) direct-to-DVD episodes/movies? No he won't because it won't matter if no one is buying. I like David Greenwalt, but not enough to give up on my show. Thanks any way.

P.S.: "INTENSE SUBJECT MATTER" for ABC, the channel owned by Disney and made popular by T.G.I.F programming, could mean someone says the a-word once or twice, or some corn syrup blood coming out of a statue. I wouldn't pin my hopes on a disclaimor put on the show by the network.

Now, don't forget ABC spawned NYPD Blue, which pushed the envelope regarding how much controversial content could be broadcast on Network TV. And as a result, we must realize what "INTENSE SUBJECT MATTER" really means for Miracles: Partial nudity! You know... If you're into that sort of thing.

That being said, ain't no way a show called "Miracles" can best my Firefly. Sounds a little too much like "Seventh Heaven" or "Touched by an Angel" for my tastes.

Maybe if it was called "Cool Show with Partial Nudity and Gratuitous Use of the F-Word" or something... that'd be a fun show to watch.

If you're into that sort of thing.

Long story short: I don't want intense subject matter. I want Joss and Tim and Mal and Inara and Book and Kaylee and Simon and Zoe and River and Wash and Jayne. I want cutting edge Science Fiction, smart, funny, distinctive writing. I want plots that start out as something you think you've seen before, but then show you how it SHOULD have been done; putting the ham-fisted writers of shows like Enterprise to shame.

I want to see Serenity fly in silence through a black abyss populated entirely by human beings; some not quite so human as they might once have been.

THAT's the sort of gorram thing I'm into. ;)

being familer with david greenwalts past work, i can pretty safely say that miracles will be nothing at all like touched by an angel. his past credit include Profit, Buffy, and Angel(another deceptive title). plus it stars Skeet Ulrich, a great actor if there ever was one. should be a pretty intese show. ABC's track record for good shows is way better then fox lately.

Sorry, 'Miracles' may be fine show, but if Firefly doesn't make it, I'm really not interested in supporting another show from the beginning. I think I speak for quite a few people here, in saying that I've never been interesting in 'supporting' television at all. If fact, I didn't show up here to 'support' Firefly - I just thought I saw something really special in it and wanted some community in that experience. Good luck with your site though.

Actually, from what I've heard about it so far, sounds much more like "Nothing Sacred" meets "The X-Files." Of course, nobody's even heard of "Nothing Sacred," but it was one of the best and most challenging things to appear on TV, ever. Its cancellation was the last time I was nearly as angry about a cancellation as I am about Firefly's.

And besides, I really enjoyed Skeet Ulrich in both "Touch" and "Ride With the Devil," so I'm looking forward to it for that reason, too.

Won't replace Firefly in my heart--nothing ever will--but I'm hopeful that at least intelligence won't have disappeared entirely from the airwaves.

Here's a bit from Matt over at TV GUIDE:

Quote:

LEAP OF FAITH

Can Miracles Break Curse on Cult TV?

By Matt Roush

Just how serious is ABC about Miracles, the new year's riskiest drama?

We ask this only because the network is asking us to believe that it will actually stand by a series that is darkly challenging and almost as certain to spark controversy as it is to dwell in the ratings cellar. Miracles (Mondays, 10 pm/ET), best described as a spiritual X-Files, has "cult show" written all over it and will need a proverbial miracle to survive, especially against CBS's CSI: Miami.

By asking us to willingly venture into this often spellbinding world of mysticism and apocalyptic portent, ABC must hope we've all had amnesia about the fate of so many of its short-lived mold breakers, from Twin Peaks to, most tellingly, 1997's edgy Nothing Sacred, about a volatile priest.

Now, to be fair, cult dramas are struggling everywhere, with Fox's Firefly, UPN's Haunted, WB's Birds of Prey and Sci Fi Channel's Farscape all axed recently.

Miracles at least can bank on the brooding star presence of Skeet Ulrich. He brings a dazed queasiness to the role of Paul Callan, a soul-weary orphan whose own religious nurturing led to his calling as a church-sanctioned investigator and debunker of miraculous phenomena. Feeling like "a doctor who never cures anyone," Paul wonders if "maybe we're on our own down here."

His crisis of faith is intensified by horrific dream visions and, in the first episode, an encounter with a dying boy who has the power to heal others. Further shaken and alienated from his church superiors, Paul joins a mysterious brotherhood of truth seekers in anticipation of some cataclysmic "large event."

Miracles recalls The X-Files's moody tone and ability to sustain wonder amid the trappings of a suspense thriller. But before we get too excited, consider that if The X-Files had aired on ABC, it probably wouldn't have had a prayer.

Weren't you judging 'Miracles' before you saw it?
You were singing its praises to the roof before it even premiered. You think it will be great and you want to watch it. Great for you. Others of us do not think it will be great and have no reason to wate our time for an hour watching a TV show we don't care about. Don't allude that people who choose not to invest their time in 'Miracles' are dumbasses.

And point of fact: you have given up on Firefly. The title of your post is "Firefly's gone, Let's try Miracles." Start a Miracles board and post there if you're so hot on the show, and leave those holding out for something better to their own devices.

Alias is a genre show. The genre is SPY. The reason no one understands you when you say it ISN'T a genre show is because you are wrong. Sorry, but you are.

Can't we be involved with both ?

Do we have to choose for MIRACLE and forget FIREFLY or the opposite ?

I'm struggling hard to see all the FIREFLY episodes, but I believe in the show, and I believed in the show from the beginning, before I saw any episode, because I trust Joss Whedon and Tim Minear, they never turned us down (as far as I'm concerned.)

And... I believe in David Grennwalt, PROFIT is one of my favorite show ever, I watch it every year. And when I heard about a new show created by Him, whoooooo !!!!

So, can't we be involved with both ?

Don't forget Greenwalt bailed on Whedon without "two weeks notice" (so-to-speak) putting Angel in a bit of turmoil. His exiting from Angel occured at the same time Whedon was trying to get Firefly off the ground so may have had an effect on that show as well.

I'm loyal to the Whedon/Mutant Enemy family, but not at the expense of one or more of the ME productions.

Happily, Angel survived just fine and is having a hell of a season without DG.

However, the real reason I most likely won't be watching Miracles: I watch too much damn TV as it is! Don't have room for any new shows in my TV addiction schedule.

First off, I ain't above judging a show I've never seen if it looks like my time might be better spent elsewhere. Hence my refusal to watch "American Idol" and that new show with Noel from "Felicity".

Though, that's not the case with Miracles. I'll be checking the show out if only because ABC decided to actually rearrange their schedule to promote it, moving the stalwart "The Practice" juggernaut to Mondays to help. Imagine if FOX had done that with "Firefly", or even simply given it a reasonable timeslot? But that's not the point.

The point is (and I'll use single-syllable words so us dumbasses don't get all confusided) -- I don't want a new show. I want Mal and the crew back on FOX.

Hell, I watch all kinds of shows, but I ain't in the mood to replace the best television show ever aired with some kind of crappy X-Files rip-off... wait... er... forget I said that last part. I'm sure "Miracles" will be great. I hear David Duchovony will be guest-starring during sweeps.

You know, I may not watch "Miracles" now I think about it... me being a dumbass and all, I may not understand the complexities of this brilliant new show. Perhaps I'll just stick my finger up my nose and try to remember how to count to 11 so I can make labels for my Firefly DVDs, and just leave the whole television thing to them as can appreciate it proper.

Sorry but I have no interest in getting hooked on another show. I'd like to think the best of middle America, but when 18 million of them would rather watch some guy lying to 20 golddiggers than a great show like Firefly, I've pretty much decided to foresake the relative wasteland of today's TV programming and work my way through the DVD sets of the great series I already know and love. I'm hoping there will at least be a DVD offering of the recorded episodes of Firefly.

Of course, anything Joss gives his support to will attract my attention but for the time being, I'll just keep working to keep Firefly going and watch my recently purchased Buffy (season 3) and Farscape (Season 1) DVDs.

I saw Veritas, the Quest, and Miracles, and I guess I've been ruined for all other shows.

Veritas has potential, except that one way to fix the show was to lose the kid. The kid, was a major focus of the show though. There was a gratuitous shirtless scene which I didn't mind, but the kid took away from the whole Indiana Jones feel of the show. By the way, the kid was 17-18, so I don't feel too dirty

Miracles looks like X-Files with a religious slant, and while it looks good, I think it's too early to tell about this show. Good, but not great. Firefly isn't even on the map here by the way. Firefly is on another level so far above these guys that I can't compare it.

The intense subject matter is just stuff that fundimentalist christians would object to: questioning God, wondering if the devil is involved, etc. No nudity, no over the top violence.

Bottom line: I'll watch it, but won't get too upset if it gets cancelled.
